The two fall in love and all's going great, until...Mikey comes back, and he falls for Kieran too. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would you do if God directed you to preach a gospel of nudism?Meet proper, meek Kellie Miller. She's married to John Calvin Miller, a young and impoverished new minister. Life is lean at the Miller household until Kellie learns that she has inherited Running Tail Meadows, a resort worth almost $2,000,000! The catch is that it is dedicated to clothing-free living and there's nothing John and Kellie can do about it. How humiliating! Butt naked men! Butt naked women! In the same place-at the same time! Displaying breasts, buttocks, everything! Penises! Vaginas! Nude straights! Nude gays! Shameless! Brazen! Exhibitionism and voyeurism! A sea of succulent flesh: tanned, oiled and tantalizing! And John Calvin a man of the cloth! While anxiously trying to dispose of this albatross, the naive young newlyweds discover that life can be complicated. Friction arises between husband and wife, and neither one is entirely innocent. Then, without warning, Kellie changes-in many ways. Things couldn't get much more confusing. But, of course, they do.Has Kellie gone nuts? Is John the man he thinks he is? What's right? What's wrong? Does everyone get what they deserve? And does love really conquer all?Join John and Kellie, Harry, Roxanne, Cassandra, Barb and Bob as they pick their way through the minefield that seems to lie between them and their would-be Garden of Eden.Warning: This book deals graphically with the topics of nudism and religion. Please do not read it if you are likely to be offended by either, both, or the intersection of the two.

After all, it's 1935 and jobs and money and sometimes even dreams are scarce. So when Turtle's mama gets a job housekeeping for a lady who doesn't like kids, Turtle says goodbye without a tear and heads off to Key West, Florida to live with relatives she's never met. Florida's like nothing Turtle's ever seen before though. It's hot and strange, full of rag tag boy cousins, family secrets, scams, and even buried pirate treasure! Before she knows what's happened, Turtle finds herself coming out of the shell she's spent her life building, and as she does, her world opens up in the most unexpected ways. Filled with adventure, humor and heart, Turtle in Paradise is an instant classic both boys and girls with love. Book excerpt: “Electrifying…sparkles with Manger’s song and poetry, and is brilliantly layered with literary and folkloric references.” — Tablet “There is something joyous about Manger’s playful language.” — The Jewish Chronicle The raucously witty Yiddish classic about a Jewish Paradise afflicted by very human temptations and pains — a delightful new translation perfect for fans of Michael Chabon Witty, playful and slyly profound, this story of a young angel expelled from Paradise is the only novel by one of the great Yiddish writers, which was written just before the outbreak of World War II. As a result of a crafty trick, the expelled angel retains the memory of his previous life when he’s born as a Yiddish-fluent baby mortal on Earth. The humans around him plead for details of that other realm, but the Paradise of his mischievous stories is far from their expectations: a world of drunken angels, lewd patriarchs and the very same divisions and temptations that shape the human world. Published here in a lively new translation by Robert Adler Peckerar, The Book of Paradise is a comic masterpiece from poet-satirist Itzik Manger that irreverently blurs the boundaries between ancient and modern and sacred and profane, where the shtetl is heaven, and heaven is the shtetl.

Book excerpt: Adam Newman once had it all. But then he lost it. Now Adam yearns to reunite with his estranged wife, Evelyn, and recapture the Edenic life they once had running Paradise Dogs, the roadside hot-dog restaurant now legendary throughout central Florida. He has a few obstacles along the way. For starters, there's his impending marriage to Lily. There's also the matter of a quarter million dollars' worth of diamonds that he mislaid, along with what appears to be a shadowy conspiracy that is buying up land around the Cross-Florida Canal (and which may or may not be a product of Adam's alcohol-infused imagination). Despite his own troubles---and a brief stay in Chattahoochee---Adam looks to mentor his son, Addison, in the ways of love. Awkward, unsure, and employed as the world's least accurate obituary writer, Addison pines for a beautiful and painfully earnest linguistic student but must compete for her attention with his older and more sophisticated half brother from Evelyn's first marriage. But if anybody can set these worlds in order, it is Adam, who has an uncanny knack for being in the right place at the right time and allowing others to believe he's someone he's not. Whether it's delivering a baby, rescuing a marriage, or exposing a Communist conspiracy, our protagonist is up for the job. Paradise Dogs, from Georgia Author of the Year Award winner Man Martin, is a farcical tale of paradise lost, the American Dream, and the true measures of love

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity is an animal derived from earth and enlightened by a spirit from heaven. We are urged to abandon our sinful souls and accept an image of our divine creator. We are then both mortal and eternal. Our bodies are from the universe that had its beginning some 14 billion years ago, but spiritual enlightenment came much later and is still happening. Can a natural being lacking a spiritual enlightenment go to heaven? No, not without the help of a superior spiritual being that we call a Messiah, Jesus came from heaven and was born and lived on earth, and when he died, his spirit returned to paradise with a repentant sinner who had shared the cross with Jesus. Our faith is that Jesus will take us also. King David, an ancestor of Abraham, died and returned as the transformed son of Mary called Jesus, the image of his heavenly Father. Symbols are often employed in the Bible. One set of them are the ancient elements--earth, air, fire, and water--that distinguish between our material and spiritual natures. Earth and water refer to the earth life and air and fire relate to the spiritual. In Noah's flood, the water baptizes/cleans our sinful self and a dove, an air symbol, points out Jesus as the ultimate cleanser. The fire on the heads of people gathered from all parts of the world at Pentecost describe the final cleansing by Jesus who baptizes with fire. The sun, moon, and stars are a set of symbols that refer to the father, son, and holy spirits. The stars represent our spirits that fall to earth periodically and embody there. The star that the magi followed was not an astronomical object; it was the vital spirit of Jesus! The sun, moon, and stars are the spiritual lights of the world. A few other symbols with important roles are the zodiac, the hidden number 9, and the alpha and omega in the world. This is a hint: ADM.

Book excerpt: The core of the book by Ruben van Schalm, 'Paradise', depicts a place overruled by the elements of nature with at the centre its quintessential component: man. The journey towards finding and creating this very personal vision of paradise has been many years in the making. It was a journey of introspection, going down a path laid with shaky pebbles, but nevertheless essential as it was driven by an innate will to create and to reveal a particular vision. Years of research, travels and collaborations with like-minded individuals have shaped what we can now see in the pages of this book: an artistic force that found its calling in the portrayal of the relationship between man and nature. The book contains unpublished black & white and colour images from series that van Schalm has made in the Philippines, French Polynesia and Israel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literature of larceny welcomes a newcomer with some serious chops, as Steven M. Thomas muscles his way to a place at the table–elbow-to-elbow with Elmore Leonard and Carl Hiaasen–courtesy of a harrowing, hilarious, two-fisted, hard-boiled thriller that’s pure heaven for anyone who loves a hell of a crime novel. Robert Rivers is a crook. No excuses, no apologies. Breaking the law is his calling, crime is his rush, capers his reason for getting up in the morning and staying up late at night. But he’s a thief with honor, plotting and pulling off carefully choreographed heists where no shots are fired, no blood is spilled, and nobody gets hurt . . . except in the wallet. After a brief stint behind bars back in the day, he’s managed to carve out a comfortable existence, cheerfully plundering the sunny Southern California community whose streets he tools in the tweaked-out Cadillac DeVille that’s his pride and joy. But now Rob (whose name has become ironic) is pushing forty, and–like his trusty partner, Switch, who’s got a pregnant girlfriend and a hefty stash of loot–he’s thinking about quitting the game. But then he and Switch, pulling their latest Butch and Sundance, score a payday that could end up costing them plenty. Inside a strongbox packed with greenbacks rests a disturbing black-and-white photo of a beautiful young girl, eyes full of fear as naked as she is. It’s an image that Rob can’t shake, and a wake-up call: There are rules even he won’t break. It’s also his one-way ticket into the underbelly of the underworld–a lethal landscape of sex slaves, sadistic psychopaths, and sawed-off shotguns, where honor is for fools, and trust is for suckers, where very bad people do even worse things and nice guys don’t finish at all. They just get finished off. With its alluring setting, quirky characters, and restrained and subtle prose, Criminal Paradise has something for every thriller fan. And with sharp natural instincts and writing skills as serious as his humor is sly, Steven M. Thomas shows as much promise as any author on the suspense scene.
