Book Synopsis Buddha, Brain and Happiness by : Dieter Borrmann
Download or read book Buddha, Brain and Happiness written by Dieter Borrmann and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BUDDHA, BRAIN and HAPPINESS. This is a provocative title, because many people assume mind, consciousness or soul is considered to be an aggregate separated and independent from the body. Following the idea that the mind automatically forms as an emergent phenomenon over a sufficiently large number of networking neurons, one can make interesting observations. For this I would like to refer in particular to the chapter of the mind as a mathematical model. The book aims to provide the reader with tools to recognize his own mind, to train it and thereby be happier. The essential tools for that goal are the so-called three higher trainings of Buddhism: ethics, meditation and wisdom. The author is neurologist in own practice in Emmerich/Germany and experienced meditator as well als teacher of Buddhism.
Book Synopsis Glück gibt's nur im Hirn by : Dieter Borrmann
Download or read book Glück gibt's nur im Hirn written by Dieter Borrmann and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-10-09 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Norms of Word Association by : Leo Postman
Download or read book Norms of Word Association written by Leo Postman and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Norms of Word Association contains a heterogeneous collection of word association norms. This book brings together nine sets of association norms that were collected independently at different times during a 15-year period. Each chapter is a self-contained unit. The order in which the norms are presented is arbitrary, although an attempt is made to group together norms that seem to belong together. The 1952 Minnesota norms are presented first, due to "age" and in recognition of the fact that a number of the norms that follow are direct outgrowths of this work. The next three norms in this collection are responses to the Russell-Jenkins stimuli obtained from subjects representing different linguistic communities. A summary of association norms collected from British and Australian subjects are reported along with association norms from German and French college students and French workmen. Four sets of norms that are not directly related to the 1952 Minnesota collection are included. The text will be of interest to historians and researchers in the field of verbal learning and verbal behavior.

Book Synopsis Reconstructing a National Identity by : Marsha L. Rozenblit
Download or read book Reconstructing a National Identity written by Marsha L. Rozenblit and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2004 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the impact of war and political crisis on the national identity of Jews, both in the multinational Habsburg monarchy and in the new nation-states that replaced it at the end of World War I. Jews enthusiastically supported the Austrian war effort because it allowed them to assert their Austrian loyalties and Jewish solidarity at the same time. They faced a grave crisis of identity when the multinational state collapsed and they lived in nation-states mostly uncomfortable with ethnic minorities. This book raises important questions about Jewish identity and about the general nature of ethnic and national identity.
Download or read book The Jew's Body written by Sander Gilman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on a wealth of medical and historical materials, Sander Gilman sketches details of the anti-Semitic rhetoric about the Jewish body and mind, including medical and popular depictions of the Jewish voice, feet, and nose. Case studies illustrate how Jews have responded to such public misconceptions as the myth of the cloven foot and Jewish flat-footedness, the proposed link between the Jewish mind and hysteria, and the Victorians' irrational connection between Jews and prostitutes. Gilman is especially concerned with the role of psychoanalysis in the construction of anti-Semitism, examining Freud's attitude towards his own Jewishness and its effect on his theories, as well as the supposed "objectiveness" of psychiatrists and social scientists.
Book Synopsis Languages of Community by : Hillel J. Kieval
Download or read book Languages of Community written by Hillel J. Kieval and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2000-12-26 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a keen eye for revealing details, Hillel J. Kieval examines the contours and distinctive features of Jewish experience in the lands of Bohemia and Moravia (the present-day Czech Republic), from the late eighteenth to the late twentieth century. In the Czech lands, Kieval writes, Jews have felt the need constantly to define and articulate the nature of group identity, cultural loyalty, memory, and social cohesiveness, and the period of "modernizing" absolutism, which began in 1780, brought changes of enormous significance. From that time forward, new relationships with Gentile society and with the culture of the state blurred the traditional outlines of community and individual identity. Kieval navigates skillfully among histories and myths as well as demography, biography, culture, and politics, illuminating the maze of allegiances and alliances that have molded the Jewish experience during these 200 years.
