Book excerpt: Juan Rivera is a young Hispanic male who is arrested, accused of shooting two people to death on New Year's Eve in the small town of Ironton, Colorado. The evidence is damaging to Juan Rivera. As he sits in a jail cell inside of the Ironton Town Marshal's office, he waits to see what his fate will be. The town of Ironton has only one criminal defense attorney, Daniel Marcos. Although his specialty in law school at Denver University was Constitutional Law, the Bar Association certified him for criminal law. With the help of his secretary Lynn Lyons along with a very capable and beautiful Asian female private investigator named Jessica Kim, they try to unravel the events of that night in an effort to expose the real killer. With very little to go on, Daniel, Lynn and Jessica do their best. Daniel is soon in court with one of the toughest judges in the town of Ironton; Judge Larry Bishop and one of the toughest District Attorney's that the 6th Judicial District has to offer; Linda Bacara. Her tough approach to the case leaves little doubt as to the fate of Juan Rivera; life in prison without parole for two counts of murder in the first degree. Can Daniel get the job done in time? Find out in this, Daniel's first case.

Only he’s not really the devil. He’s an extra-terrestrial. And he’s not evil. He’s God’s good brother. It’s God who is evil.” Do you think I came to you to have you put in a funny farm? You’re to publish my manuscript under your own name, as science fiction. Isn’t science fiction the only format under which any sane moral philosophy could be published for the past fifty years? You agree? I am so glad. I have to go now. The Overlords are waiting to take me home.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the field of medieval Indian historiography, an eight-volume magnum opus, History of India as Told by Its Own Historians, by Sir Henry Myers Elliot (1808-53) and the editor-compiler of his posthumous papers, John Dowson (1820-81), was published from London between 1867 and 1877. These landmark volumes continue to retain their popularity even nearly hundred and fifty years later, and scholars still learn from and conduct their research on the basis of this work. However, an enterprise of this scale and magnitude was bound to suffer from some serious shortcomings. An eminent Indian scholar, S.H. Hodivala undertook the daunting task of annotating Elliot and Dowson’s volumes and worked through all the new material, selecting or criticizing and adding his own suggestions where previous comments did not exist or appeared unsuitable. The first volume of Hodivala’s annotated Studies, was published in 1939, while the second was published posthumously in 1957. Over the years, while the work of Elliot and Dowson has seen many reprints, and is even available online now, Hodivala’s volumes have receded into obscurity. A new edition is presented here for the first time. Hodivala also published critical commentaries on 238 of about 2000 entries included in another very famous work, Hobson-Jobson (London, 1886) by Sir Henry Yule (1820-89) and Arthur Coke Burnell (1840-82). These have also been included in the present edition. These volumes are thus aimed at serving as an indispensable compendium of both, Elliot and Dowson’s, and for Yule and Burnell’s excellent contributions of colonial scholarship. At the same time these would also serve as a guide for comparative studies and critical appreciation of historical texts. Please note: Taylor & Francis does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka

With almost no cases going on and the bills piling up, Daniel is starting to get worried. Barry wants Daniel to take the case of his poor security officer, Bill Berman, whom after being shot by the bandit, is charged with their alleged murder. Daniel takes on the case and is once again up against the best that the 6th Judicial District has to offer. The evidence that is gathered seems to be all too conveniently pointing to the accused security officer. Daniel doesnt like it one bit and decides to use his resources to find the real killer. For Daniel the choices are grim for Bill Berman; life in prison without parole for First Degree Murder, 20-years to life for Second Degree Murder or 15-years to life for Manslaughter. Daniel doesnt accept any of the plea bargains offered by Linda. While preparing for the forthcoming arraignment, preliminary hearing and soon to follow trial, a terrible set of events befalls Daniel. See the conclusion of this case in The Case of the Missing Coffee Pot.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Neil Douglas-Klotz has distilled his decades of rigorous scholarship, deep practice, and revolutionary insight into a potent elixir for our times.” —Mirabai Starr, translator of Julian of Norwich: The Showings and author of Wild Mercy This book is an approach to Jesus’s recorded words and teachings through his native language, Aramaic, answering many questions clearly and consistently, even if unexpectedly, no matter which Gospel you have in your hands. From the Introduction: “Jesus’s teachings have been used historically to fuel what became modern Western culture, with all its pluses and minuses. At the same time, viewed through his native language, the same teachings provide a solution to our culture’s greatest challenges, pointing the way toward a proper use of our human individuality and will.” Through expansions of Aramaic’s multiple meanings as well as guided contemplations, Revelations of the Aramaic Jesus provides a guide to transformation through the way of the prophet of Nazareth. It shows how Jesus’s deepest teachings address contemporary challenges, such as our relationships with nature and each other, as well as the purpose of life itself. Revelations of the Aramaic Jesus is a guide to living an authentic interior life without dogma and a spiritual path that makes you more comfortable in your own, providing a sense of meaning and purpose.

Book excerpt: Although so close to London this is still a rural area, with quiet country churches with fine monuments, timber-framed farmhouses, and some splendid country houses, of which the most celebrated is Cecil's Jacobean Hatfield House. At St Albans the remains of Roman Verulamium and the great early Norman abbey speak eloquently of older civilizations. The towns offer intriguing contrasts: Hertford, Bishop's Stortford and Hitchin still have the character of traditional market centres, while the new towns of Stevenage, Hemel Hempstead and Hatfield are important exemplars of planning ideals of the 1950s and 60s.
