Book excerpt: Born with special abilities, N8 and the rest of “the children” have lived underground their entire lives, where they’ve been led to believe there was a nuclear war that left the Earth’s surface uninhabitable. The scientists chose what information they were given, what TV shows and movies they could watch, as well as what they were allowed to eat. It was only a matter of time before he and the others started questioning their very existence. They’ve endured brutal experiments and testing since birth, but to what end? When will it stop? They realize it won’t, unless they do something about it. Cydney Huddleston works for corporation, but she can’t stand how the company is treating “the children.” N8 and the others know nothing of real life outside of the underground labs they’re forced to live in, or the lies they’ve been fed. When she’s ordered to seduce N8, she makes a decision that will ruin her career, and possibly cost her her life, but it’s worth it to free the innocent ones who have never breathed fresh air, seen the stars, or even felt love. Out of thousands of attempts to create an 8th Species, only six survived, and they must stick together. The question is, who can they trust with their secrets? Because the truth has the power to set them free. Literally.

Book Synopsis The Transition to Late Antiquity on the lower Danube by : Andrew Poulter
Download or read book The Transition to Late Antiquity on the lower Danube written by Andrew Poulter and published by Oxbow Books. This book was released on 2019-09-30 with total page 906 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excavations on the site of this remarkable fort in northern Bulgaria (1996–2005) formed part of a long-term program of excavation and intensive field survey, aimed at tracing the economic as well as physical changes which mark the transition from the Roman Empire to the Middle Ages, a program that commenced with the excavation and full publication of the early Byzantine fortress/city of Nicopolis ad Istrum. The analysis of well-dated finds and their full publication provides a unique database for the late Roman period in the Balkans; they include metal-work, pottery (local and imported fine ware), glass, copper alloy finds, inscriptions and dipinti (on amphorae), as well as quantified environmental reports on animal, birds, and fish with specialist reports on the archaeobotanical material, glass analysis, and querns. The report also details the results of site-specific intensive survey, a new method developed for use in the rich farmland of the central Balkans. In addition, there is a detailed report on a most remarkable and well-preserved aqueduct, which employed the largest siphon ever discovered in the Roman Empire. This publication will provide a substantial database of material and environmental finds, an invaluable resource for the region and for the Roman Empire: material invaluable for studies, which seeks to place the late Roman urban and military identity within its regional and extra-regional economic setting.
Book Synopsis Hydrogen bonding abilities of hydroxamic acid and its isosteres by : Ruchi Kohli
Download or read book Hydrogen bonding abilities of hydroxamic acid and its isosteres written by Ruchi Kohli and published by Anchor Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2016-01-26 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study comprises seven chapters. In chapter 1 an overview of chemistry, biological functions and literature studies of hydroxamic acids (HA) and its isosteres is presented. The principles of quantum mechanics underlying the computational methods employed to study HAs are given in brief. Chapter 2 describes intra- and intermolecular H-bonding interactions between formohydoxamic acid (FHA) and single water molecule and the dimerization among the isomeric forms. Chapter 3 involves the comparative study of H-bonding abilities of thioformohydoxamic acid (TFHA) and FHA. The deprotonation enthalpies of different sites of FHA and TFHA, probable pathways for interconversion among anions and their H-bonding with water are explored in chapter 4. The Effect of aqueous medium on deprotonation by using solvation methods is also discussed. Further insight into H-bonded aggregates and dimers of HAs is gained through the analysis of calculated stabilization energies and their comparison to similar H-bonded functionalities. The reasons behind the H-bond cooperativity in the aggregates and dimers are explored in chapter 5. Chapter 6 deals with the study of properties of formylphosphinous acid (FPA) isostere of FHA and a comparative study is carried out. In chapter 7, the aggregation of the most stable keto and enol conformer of FHA and TFHA with five amino acid side chain groups occurring at active sites of enzymes is studied.
Book Synopsis Stability Analysis of Earth Slopes by : Y.H. Huang
Download or read book Stability Analysis of Earth Slopes written by Y.H. Huang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past several years I have been engaged in applied research related to the stability analysis of slopes. This research was supported by the Institute for Mining and Minerals Research, University of Kentucky, in response to the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977, which requires stability analysis for refuse dams, hollow fills, and spoil banks created by surface mining. The results of the research have been published in several journals and reports and also presented in a number of short courses. Both the sim plified and the computerized methods of stability analysis, as developed from this research, have been widely used by practicing engineers throughout Ken tucky for the application of mining permits. The large number of out-of-state participants in the short courses indicates that the methods developed have widespread applications. This book is a practical treatise on the stability analysis of earth slopes. Special emphasis is placed on the utility and application of stablity formulas, charts, and computer programs developed recently by the author for the analy sis of human-created slopes. These analyses can be used for the design of new slopes and the assessment of remedial measures on existing slopes. To make the book more complete as a treatise on slope stability analysis, other methods of stability analysis, in addition to those developed by the author, are briefly discussed. It is hoped that this book will be a useful reference, class room text, and users' manual for people interested in learning about stability analysis.
