As a germaphobe, she finally feels like everyone else is now facing the type of anxiety she has long been accustomed to. When an abandoned baby is left on the front step of her tiny house, she must decide if she can get away with raising this child as her own. Her therapist wants her to write about her past. As revelations about her abusive upbringing emerge, she starts to question everything about the present– including her new-found joy. Despite her trust issues, she wonders if it’s safe to enter her childhood friend’s “bubble.” And she just can’t seem to resist the suspiciously nice and overly handsome neighbor who keeps showing up with gifts. In the midst of a global pandemic, can she leave her trauma behind and find sanctuary for the little family she hopes to create?

Book excerpt: This book introduces the concept of the Picnic Society – a society which we all belong to today because social media has given us unlimited opportunities to create or destroy our own and our circle’s (our bubble’s) realities, possibilities, and reputations. In today’s world every organization is integrated into society, and the people belonging to organizations are integrated into various continually interacting communities. Social media has – or soon will – erase any remaining boundaries between organizations and the world’s social fabric. It is increasingly pointless for organizations to try to establish relationships with society, because these already exist – 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and all 365 days of the year. This is what I mean in talking about the transformation of the field of PR – from Public Relations to People Relations. This book discusses the challenges facing public relations professionals working in a contemporary society that is flooded with information, offers endless channels of communication, gives rise to true and false leaders, and is marked by both openness and mistrust, by real and fake news. This book will appeal to professionals who already have a solid grasp of public relations technologies but would like to review their skills and develop their own model of public relations know-how without being limited by the strict boundaries of traditional PR theory.

However, Samantha was not one of them. Many women in their late 30s and early 40s postpone marriage or childbearing to obtain their education, establish their careers, and become financially secure. Unfortunately, this sometimes leads to difficulties in finding Mr. Right or conceiving (or both). This can be an arduous and heartbreaking time of life, when it seems lifelong hopes and dreams of family may not be possible. Samantha delayed marriage until the age of 36 after she’d pursued advanced degrees and established her career—not entirely by choice since Mr. Right hadn’t entered her life sooner. At times she wondered if it would ever happen. Once married, she and her husband wanted kids right away, only to suffer a miscarriage and the devastating diagnosis of infertility. In this book, Samantha shares her extraordinary journey of hope. You will discover how her faith in God and perseverance led her to the right husband and overcoming infertility to have their first baby at 40. Don’t give up on your dreams, whatever they are. You still have time. Author Dr. Samantha Fitts is an educator/specialist (special education, literacy, education leadership, and adult learning), professional development presenter, and motivator. She has been in education for over twenty years. She is extremely passionate about helping others reach their professional and personal goals in life. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franklin Henry Little (1878–1917), an organizer for the Western Federation of Miners and the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), fought in some of the early twentieth century’s most contentious labor and free-speech struggles. Following his lynching in Butte, Montana, his life and legacy became shrouded in tragedy and family secrets. In Frank Little and the IWW, author Jane Little Botkin chronicles her great-granduncle’s fascinating life and reveals its connections to the history of American labor and the first Red Scare. Beginning with Little’s childhood in Missouri and territorial Oklahoma, Botkin recounts his evolution as a renowned organizer and agitator on behalf of workers in corporate agriculture, oil, logging, and mining. Frank Little traveled the West and Midwest to gather workers beneath the banner of the Wobblies (as IWW members were known), making soapbox speeches on city street corners, organizing strikes, and writing polemics against unfair labor practices. His brother and sister-in-law also joined the fight for labor, but it was Frank who led the charge—and who was regularly threatened, incarcerated, and assaulted for his efforts. In his final battles in Arizona and Montana, Botkin shows, Little and the IWW leadership faced their strongest opponent yet as powerful copper magnates countered union efforts with deep-laid networks of spies and gunmen, an antilabor press, and local vigilantes. For a time, Frank Little’s murder became a rallying cry for the IWW. But after the United States entered the Great War and Congress passed the Sedition Act (1918) to ensure support for the war effort, many politicians and corporations used the act to target labor “radicals,” squelch dissent, and inspire vigilantism. Like other wage-working families smeared with the traitor label, the Little family endured raids, arrests, and indictments in IWW trials. Having scoured the West for firsthand sources in family, library, and museum collections, Botkin melds the personal narrative of an American family with the story of the labor movements that once shook the nation to its core. In doing so, she throws into sharp relief the lingering consequences of political repression.

On March 25, 1911, a fire broke out on the eighth floor of the Asch Building in Greenwich Village, New York. The top three floors housed the Triangle Waist Company, a factory where approximately 500 workers, mostly young immigrant women and girls, labored to produce fashionable cotton blouses, known as "waists." The fire killed 146 workers in a mere 15 minutes but pierced the perpetual conscience of citizens everywhere. The tragedy of the fire, and the resulting movements for change, were pivotal in shaping workers' rights and unions. This book is a collection of stories from writers, artists, activists, scholars, and family members of the Triangle workers. Nineteen contributors offer a collective testimony: a written memorial to the Triangle victims"--

Book excerpt: Tiny Notes to My Family came from a tradition that the author's family practiced for many years, and that was to write their notes to each other in one little notebook, instead of on pieces of paper that would get lost. A dedicated notebook was left on the kitchen counter each day, for anyone to write a tiny note before leaving for work, school, or at any other time during the day. Anything from simple love notes, to have a great day notes, and even to do lists, these collections of tiny notes are looked back on fondly as little windows into the family's day to day interactions with each other over the years. In an age of digital texts and rushed farewell hugs, this is a much loved way to capture these treasured interactions in a way that can be read for generations to come. With Tiny Notes to My Family, the author brings this tradition to you, so that you may treasure each and every tiny note written between family members for years to come.
