Book excerpt: My Journey with the United Nations and Quest for the Horn of Africa’s Unity and Justice for Ethiopia by Kidane Alemayehu My Journey with the United Nations and Quest for the Horn of Africa's Unity and Justice for Ethiopia is a landmark in the annals of Ethiopian literature and history. It gives a huge assignment to the present and future generations of Ethiopians – namely that justice must be done, if not today, then tomorrow, and if not tomorrow, then the day after tomorrow. The Catholic Church, as the Universal Church, cannot remain mum in the face of such horrendous accusations supported by evidence. It is our fervent hope that, as Vicar of Jesus His Holiness, Pope Francis, who is already well known for his humility and steadfast stand for justice, will address this outstanding issue of apology to the Ethiopian people.

Book Synopsis The United Nations and Democracy in Africa by : Zoë Wilson
Download or read book The United Nations and Democracy in Africa written by Zoë Wilson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-11-21 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores UN bureaucracy and the development dysfunction it sows in four 'most different' African countries: Angola, Botswana, Namibia, and Tanzania. Wilson's original purpose for researching this book was to uncover new solutions to some of the United Nations' most vexing implementation problems. Yet, as research unfolded, it became clear that the reasons for those problems lay tangled up in bureaucratic and philosophical quagmires of a much more fundamental nature. The United Nations and Democracy in Africa is the documentation not only of these bureaucratic and philosophical absurdities that find expression through development practice, but also the journey of the author from ardent defender of the UN to profound sceptic.
Book Synopsis AFRICAN DIPLOMACY by : Frederick S. Arkhurst
Download or read book AFRICAN DIPLOMACY written by Frederick S. Arkhurst and published by Author House. This book was released on 2006-11-28 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: African Diplomacy: The UN Experience deals with some of the many issues, affecting Africa, which came before the United Nations in the immediate, post-independence period. Of major importance were the establishment of the Economic Commission for Africa, and the revocation of the Mandate which conferred on South Africa responsibility for the administration of the Trusteeship Territory of South West Africa. The book also deals with some policy issues not strictly within the ambit of the United Nations, but which were of special international significance, such as the interminable controversy regarding Chinese representation in the United Nations (1950-1967), the Commonwealth initiative to end the conflict in Vietnam, and the complexities of multilateral diplomacy. The final chapter “Reflections on Some Contemporary Issues” discusses current issues of topical interest, including the effect of the Cold War on diplomatic practice, globalization, economic development, foreign aid, peacekeeping, and the failure of party politics in Africa. While the episodes dealt with in the book are not all in strict chronological order, they have been arranged to enable the flow of the narrative without departing unduly from the general chronology of the events.
