The ups and downs, I hope you find some humor in the midst of these pages along with the realism of the trucking industry. I share on a daily basis, called daily logs, of what I went through each day to deliver product. I hope you can see how God worked in my life as He opened up parking spots for me and the people that helped me back into the different docks. I also hope this lets you see some of the struggles of what truckers go through each day as they deliver product across the nation.

Since then he’s covered more than a million miles as a mover, packing, loading, hauling people’s belongings all over America. In The Long Haul, Murphy recounts with wit, candor, and charm the America he has seen change over the decades and the poignant, funny, and often haunting stories of the people he encounters on the job.

Book excerpt: "The share auto I squeeze into next seems unusually vulnerable after a night in the truck - too compact, too low down. Perhaps, these are the usual side effects of prolonged riding with the king of the road, I think to myself. But it is only when I fill in ‘truck’ as my mode of transportation in the hotel ledger at Udaipur does the utter ludicrousness of my endeavour truly hit home" Think truck drivers, and movie scenes of them drunkenly crushing inconvenient people to their gravelly deaths come to mind. But what are their lives on the road actually like? In Truck De India!, journalist Rajat Ubhaykar embarks on a 10,000 km-long, 100% unplanned trip, hitchhiking with truckers all across India. On the way, he makes unexpected friendships; listens to highway ghost stories; discovers the near-fatal consequences of overloading trucks; documents the fascinating tradition of truck art in Punjab; travels alongside nomadic shepherds in Kashmir; encounters endemic corruption repeatedly; survives NH39, the insurgent-ridden highway through Nagaland and Manipur; and is unfailingly greeted by the unconditional kindness of perfect strangers. Imbued with humour, empathy, and a keen sense of history, Truck De India! is a travelogue like no other you've read. It is the story of India, and Indians, on the road.

Book excerpt: Let’s talk about the money, most truck drivers can expect to earn $30,000-$40,000 in their 1st year. I know some drivers who work as Solo drivers and decide to give up their apartments so they can stay in the truck all year long and save money. They still take days off from time to time, and stay with friends, family or rent a hotel for a few days so they can take a break. Once you have 6 months experience you may be able to find a job that pays more money. I’ve seen motivated drivers earning in the $60,000 range in their 1st year. The money is there to earn if you look for it. Too many drivers get complacent and they stay with the same company in the same position making low wages for years and years. Sometimes all you need to do to increase your income is switch positions within the company. If the company you work for doesn’t offer anything that will take you to the next level then find another company that will. I know a Walmart driver who earns $100,000 year and he’s home every night and weekend. Companies pay you in cents per mile (CPM) so the more mileage you drive the more you earn The bottom line is company drivers can make anywhere from $30,000 to around $100,000 per year. Stay away from company lease options, 99% of the time only the company does well with this type of position. They will make their lease program sound perfect, touting how you will be your own boss and make lots of money. Drivers often find themselves making just enough to cover the WEEKLY truck lease payment. If you want to truly be your own boss as a owner operator of your own truck then save up the money to buy a used truck cash or you may be able to find a 3rd party (not company sponsored) lease program. I have seen a couple of decent 3rd party lease programs, these will allow you to contract with any company you want. So if you’re not making enough money with one company then you can easily switch to another. Owner operators can make anywhere from $50,000 - $250,000 per year. About the Expert I have been driving a truck full time for over 4 years at the time of this publishing. I have been a company driver for 3 of those years and an owner/operator for a bit over one. In the 4+ years that I’ve been driving I have spent one year driving most of the lower 48 states. I haven’t made it up to North Carolina, and a few other states in the northeast but all of the others I have. For the last two years I have been truck driving with my team from Los Angeles to the Kansas City area and back. We did that twice a week. After doing that for about a year I was able to get a driving position working nights and being home every day. I did that for almost year. I left there because the company did a pathetic job of maintaining their equipment. I was afraid of getting stopped by law enforcement. So I left them and got my own truck to take care of. Now I am contracted with a carrier to move their freight and it works out a lot better. HowExpert publishes quick 'how to' guides on all topics from A to Z by everyday experts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People asked me, "What's interstate trucking like? What's it really like out there on the road?" My short answer was always the same. "You have to like being alone." In The Driver's Seat -- memoir, travelogue, portrait of an industry -- is the long answer. One month after his 45th birthday, Marc Mayfield became a long-haul truck driver, something he'd always wanted to do. Away from home for weeks at a time, he crisscrossed America in 18-wheelers. Drove into sunsets and, often, through the night. Learned firsthand that truckers compensated by the mile are shortchanged with each paycheck, that the federal Hours of Service of Drivers are as unrealistic as they are dangerous, that every day out there brought threats to his truck, his cargo, and his life. But he loved the solitude of a truck cab and traveled more than one million accident-free miles. Along the way, he all but destroyed his marriage. Then he met someone he didn't know he'd been looking for: Himself.

And I have been both. Trucking is physically a little too hard for me. Perhaps for this reason, my life as a trucker has been one of radical dependence on God. The truck runs, after all, by grace, and I'm on the road only as long as God wants me to be. I have truly experienced that God's mercies are new every morning and are inexhaustible. He always helps! That's what this story is about.

Book excerpt: A Christian's journey is not always easy. Life as a trucker on the road is not easy either. There are long, lonely hours, unpredictable storms, winding roads that never seem to end, and sometimes it's easy to forget God in the midst of it all. But God is faithful, the theme of this inspiring daily devotional. In this book, Chaplains Bunny and Blonnie Gregory share ways to beat the highway blues with stories of the miracles that they have experienced while ministering to truckers onboard Sheneeda (because she needa lot of love, just like the rest of us), their mobile chapel pulled by their Kenworth truck, and inside truck stops all across the country. Each devotion offers a Bible verse to reflect on, a short story, a real-life application, and a prayer for readers. There are devotions on faith, kindness, prayer, and more. Some are humorous and some are a little more serious, but each one offers hope and encouragement for truckers on the long road ahead and shows that in the end, we're all Trucking for Jesus. Chaplains Bunny and Blonnie Gregory have traveled the U.S. highways coast to coast with their mobile chapel since 1975, dedicating their lives to ministering to the truckers and to all others who have come aboard their church on wheels. When not on the road, the two live in Virginia.

It can be meaningful to adults, fascinating to children, and even helpful to youth learning to drive. Each message is supported by words of wisdom from the ancient Book of Proverbs. If we will just slow down and observe, even something as seemingly mundane as a road sign can convey a powerful lesson. Mr. Brown, in the future, I would appreciate it if you would pay attention to them (road signs) and act accordingly. As he handed me the ticket, he said, Have a good day. North Carolina State Trooper My goodness, Bernie, this is amazing. Never thought of this but it is simple and profound. We can see road signs differently after reading your devotionals. The pictures are wonderful, too and Proverbs come alive in a new way. Lucy Adams, Author and Cofounder of the Western NC Christian Writers Fellowship Our city, like others, devotes a tremendous amount of resources toward placing directional and informational signs along its streets for guidance and to insure the publics safety. It is amazing how Bernie Brown has extracted additional meaning from many of these road signs to assist each of us on our individual lifes journey. This fascinating little book will not only inspire you but will assist you in passing your spiritual drivers license test. Book excerpt: Step into Bob's shoes as you travel along with him on his journey home. His is a riveting story of redemption, failure, forgiveness, and restoration-one that will cause you to laugh, cry, and, in the end, fill you with hope. There was something different about big George. While he was the butt of everyone's jokes, it never seemed to bother him; he continued to talk to everyone about Jesus, including Bob. There was also something different about Bob; while on the outside he looked great, on the inside, he was empty. Eventually it was that emptiness that finally drove Bob to ask big George the most important question he had ever asked anyone: "So what is this business about being born again?" Two days later, Bob found the answer to that question, and his life was changed forever. However, over the next 25 years, while Bob watched the Lord do amazing things in his life, he would also fight a lonely battle with an invisible adversary that would torment him relentlessly, even threatening to take his very life.
