Book Synopsis The Knowledge of Christ Jesus My Lord by : Veronica Koperski
Download or read book The Knowledge of Christ Jesus My Lord written by Veronica Koperski and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 1996 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employing the traditional tools of historical-critical methodology as well as a selected mix of techniques from newer literary criticism, this book provides a close analysis of the syntactic and semantic content of Phil 3:7-11 in its immediate and broader context, concluding that this passage represents a very high christological statement on the part of Paul, and discusses some of the implications of these findings in regard to the interpretation of Phil 2:5-11, the wisdom ambience of the letters of Paul, and relevance for modern christologies. In Philippians 3:7-11, Paul makes a very strong statement about how much Christ Jesus means to him. This study seeks to demonstrate how the passage within its context gives expression to a high christological statement which is frequently disregarded in treatments of Pauline christology. Chapter One presents a concise summary of the history of exegesis of Phil 3:7-11 and identifies the elements present within that history which indicated the desirability of a more in-depth treatment. Chapter Two focuses on the entire letter to the Philippians as the context of interpretation of Phil 3:7-11, beginning with a discussion of the methodology employed in the remainder of the work. Chapter Three focuses on Phil 3:7-11, first considering the textual variants within these verses, then describing in detail the relation of the complex sentence consisting of vv. 8-11. Chapters Four and Five deal with those issues of semantics in vv. 8-11 which require more extensive treatment. Chapter Six returns to a consideration of the meaning of knowledge of Christ, concluding with a consideration of the results of this study for current discussions of New Testament Christology.

No matter what season of life you're facing, My Jesus comes alongside you to: Show how God can bring purpose out of loss Offer hope in the midst of heartbreak Remind you that God never abandons you Discover the beauty that can emerge from suffering as you read Anne's story of growing closer to the God who always makes a way. Book Synopsis Caesar Ate My Jesus by : Meg Gorzycki
Download or read book Caesar Ate My Jesus written by Meg Gorzycki and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-06-09 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What the hell happened on the way to making the world a better place? We boomers were told our success would be unlimited. We had democracy and capitalism, and God was on our side. We took our religious teachings seriously, and set out to end bigotry, violence, and destitution. Inevitably, we collided with American Caesars, whose power and wealth was sufficient to dominate national and international affairs. Political and religious Caesars appropriated Jesus and used him to justify war, sexism, racism, dictatorships, and poverty. What were the faithful to do? Lots of boomers I know tossed the spiritual baby out with the religious institution's bathwater, and became cynical about civic engagement. It is not time to abandon hope in our goodness, however, and it is not time to surrender our conscience to Caesar. Our experiences as boomers teach us that it is possible to bring the love of God to bear in our lives, despite Caesar's constant pressure to cherish power, wealth, celebrity, and things more than we cherish people. This book is for folks who are ready to get off Caesar's treadmill and dig deeply into their hearts and minds to see what remains of the Kingdom of God within.

Download or read book Who Is Jesus? written by Greg Gilbert and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2015-02-02 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A famed historian once noted that, regardless of what you think of him personally, Jesus Christ stands as the central figure in the history of Western civilization. A man violently rejected by some and passionately worshipped by others, Jesus remains as polarizing as ever. But most people still know very little about who he really was, why he was really here, or what he really claimed. Intended as a succinct introduction to Jesus’s life, words, and enduring significance, Who Is Jesus? offers non-Christians and new Christians alike a compelling portrait of Jesus Christ. Ultimately, this book encourages readers to carefully consider the history-shaping life and extraordinary teachings of the greatest man who ever lived. Book Synopsis Superheroes Can’t Save You by : Todd Miles
Download or read book Superheroes Can’t Save You written by Todd Miles and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2018-04-01 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comic superheroes embody the hopes of a world that is desperate for a savior. But those comic creations cannot save us from our greatest foes—sin and death. Throughout the history of the Church there have been bad ideas, misconceptions, and heretical presentations of Jesus. Each one of these heresies fails to present Jesus as the Bible reveals him. In Superheroes Can’t Save You, Todd Miles demonstrates how these ancient heresies are embodied in contemporary comic superheroes. Miles compares something everybody already knows (who the superheroes are) with what they need to know (who Jesus is), in a book that makes vitally important Christian truths understandable and applicable to a wide audience.

In a desperate struggle to free himself from his past, which has been marred by the emotional and mental trauma that was imposed upon him during his childhood, he seeks and finds a new identity for himself, taking dangerous risks, meeting and making friends with people from all walks of life and indulging in sex, drugs and alcohol while carousing with wild abandonment. His future seems uncertain until he takes a trip with his best friend, riding motorcycles from Los Angeles to New York. In the course of their travels, he meets Jesus in a miraculous, unexpected encounter, which is foreshadowed by events that have taken place earlier in his life. Gradually, his devotion to Jesus grows and develops. In his ministry of spreading The Gospel, he receives revelations, visions and miracles from God. He finds himself compelled to resist the nocturnal attacks of evil spirits and demons, which employ witchcraft and black magic in an attempt to prevent him from continuing his witness for Jesus. Based upon his experiences, he arrives at the conclusion that all is not what it seemingly appears to be in the day-to-day routine of ordinary living. He begins to strongly suspect that God has a plan for each individual within the context of a reality to which most human beings are oblivious. Utilizing the concept of subjective reality, he persists in sharing his faith in Jesus with others, as his relationship with Jesus evolves into a close personal friendship. The finale of this story is completely unforseeable and incredible, leaving the reader with an uplifting sense of awe and wonder as David's destiny unfolds in accordance with The Divine Plan of God.

Book excerpt: KaleidoSouls: Mirrors of the Light is a collection of poems all about God, His graciousness and goodness, who He is, and who we are in Jesus. Kaleidoscopes have mirrors in them, and when light shines into the opening, beautiful reflections are seen. We are like kaleidoscopes, mirroring the image of Jesus. When He, the Light, shines in us, beautiful images reflect onto others. Without His Light, everything within us would be a jumbled mess, but He shines into our souls and makes everything beautiful. Thus, we are the KaleidoSouls mirroring His beauty. KaleidoSouls not only features poetry but has Scripture on almost every page to enhance the meaning of the poem. These poems are gleaned from relationships and solitudes, happiness and sorrows, regrets and victories, friends and family, holidays and traditions, and many other places where you will find yourself. They tell stories of how Jesus changes people's lives and how He is reflected from them. You will find encouragement, hope, love, and insight within these pages. The poems tell about God and His mercies and love and how His Word can be used in our lives. May you find the words you would like to say to someone you love, someone you wish to encourage, or to yourself in a time of personal solitude.
