Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do kids come with an owner’s manual? This book is about Jim Minton’s journey of figuring out how to raise his kids and learning a lot about himself in the process. When Jim’s children were born, he focused on raising Division I athletes who would make him look good. He started off as that obnoxious dad we have all witnessed at sporting events. He ended up with thirteen principles for improving himself, plus three amazing kids who bring him great joy as they walk in the truth. Jim loves good quotes. He kept a list on the refrigerator as his kids grew up, many of them coming from legendary basketball coach John Wooden. Jim knew his kids were going to find the bad stuff on their phones and in the culture; it was up to him to get the good stuff in front of them. Along the way, Jim discovered that the Bible is the owner’s manual he was looking for.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a history of my relationships from childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. As a black man in America, I was forced to take God and my world around me seriously because I came from a dysfunctional background. I was the youngest of six children of my absent biological father, who I felt did not care for the five black sons he created. My book deals with all factual encounters with reference to my understanding of my relationships. It is important for me to explain to the world that God had my back when I left my home at a tender age to attend this prestigious university. I had no family whatsoever in the Chocolate City, and I was only twenty going on twenty-one by myself. These are my memoirs, my history, and my experiences that God helped me write. I believe I can change the way we look at relationships because many black people in America come from dysfunctional backgrounds, such as a single-parent household. My mother was the father and mother to six children: five boys and one girl. God was clearly in this equation. My book will bring more people together with reference to their newfound relationships. The key to a successful relationship is getting to know a person first before anything else happens, such as sex. In short, there are no perfect persons on earth, and there is no Utopia on earth, so the person you meet may not be the person that is meant to be with you. There should always be a six-month dating period. My book expresses the importance of getting to know their baggage before you make a commitment. My book is the history of my relationships that God allowed me to experience to grow as a black man in America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it. --Charles Swindoll It was after midnight on an unlit desert road when Michael was hit by a car. Traveling fifty miles an hour, Michael's left leg was trapped in the car's wheel well, severing the main artery in his leg. As he was starting to bleed out, the driver made a call--a call that truly saved his life! Within minutes, paramedics arrived and were able to contain the bleeding. Michael was then rushed to Desert Regional Medical Hospital, where a staff of talented doctors were able to save his life. Unfortunately, to do so, they had to amputate his leg! Michael is here today to tell a story, a story about his journey and the discoveries he has made along the way. Self-reflection, perseverance, and a unique way of looking at life and its lessons permeate every page of this book. Overcoming the personal tragedies that occurred earlier in his life helped prepare him for the most significant challenge he would need to overcome. While others might not bounce back quickly after such a life-changing ordeal, with the help of family, friends, and a renewed belief in God, Michael persevered. His recovery is a testament to a commitment to live life as fully as he did before the accident--and to never give up. Walking with the assistance of a new prosthetic leg was a big step. Being able to someday run again along the sandy shores of Southern California will be another milestone. Michael's positive outlook is contagious. As he shares his journey from childhood through his ongoing recovery, you will be inspired by touching moments, funny anecdotes, and a self-effacing assessment of life. Michael's mantra reflects his attitude. It reinforces the fact that we are all lucky, as things can (always) be worse.

We’ve circled each other for years, two outliers in a small club of NHL owners. We know the rules, manage similar pressures, and understand that this lifestyle — hockey over everything — isn’t for everyone. Which is why I want out. To prove to my father that I have a future beyond the New York Sharks, I score one for me and open a bakery in Boston, the city that reveres Scott. It isn’t long until the dynamic and perceptive Hawk pursues me. And I’m entirely unprepared to be swept off my feet, cared for and supported after so many years on my own. Scott easily draws me back into the hockey life I thought I didn’t want. But can our relationship survive the demands of this industry? Or will I always be keeping score, second to the game that dictates everything?

Or, are you overworked, underpaid, and stuck in a lifeless job, reporting to someone who doesn't seem to be doing much better than you are? You're not alone. Corporations once needed large inflows of middle managers and the formally educated. Many of these posts have disappeared or have been displaced by outsourcing, offshoring, international competition, and by technology. There is a widespread and growing under-employment problem facing almost every society. Many are working at jobs that do not require the experience and schooling they possess. In the United States up to 44% are under-employed; in Canada this number is 40%. Though there has been some job growth over the past few years, these jobs are mostly lower-paid without a solid ladder to success. In this original and groundbreaking book, you'll learn how to develop your own highly compensated career opportunities.
