Book Synopsis The Little Virtues by : Natalia Ginzburg
Download or read book The Little Virtues written by Natalia Ginzburg and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this collection of her finest and best-known short essays, Natalia Ginzburg explores both the mundane details and inescapable catastrophes of personal life with the grace and wit that have assured her rightful place in the pantheon of classic mid-century authors. Whether she writes of the loss of a friend, Cesare Pavese; or what is inexpugnable of World War II; or the Abruzzi, where she and her first husband lived in forced residence under Fascist rule; or the importance of silence in our society; or her vocation as a writer; or even a pair of worn-out shoes, Ginzburg brings to her reflections the wisdom of a survivor and the spare, wry, and poetically resonant style her readers have come to recognize. "A glowing light of modern Italian literature . . . Ginzburg's magic is the utter simplicity of her prose, suddenly illuminated by one word that makes a lightning streak of a plain phrase. . . . As direct and clean as if it were carved in stone, it yet speaks thoughts of the heart.' — The New York Times Book Review

Download or read book Love Her Well written by Kari Kampakis and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2020-08-18 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now an ECPA Best Seller—Kari Kampakis's Love Her Well gives moms ten practical tips for how to build strong and lasting relationships with their daughters. For many women, having a baby girl is a dream come true. But as girls grow up, the narrative of innocence and joy changes to one of dread as moms are told, "Just wait until she's a teenager!" and handed a disheartening and too-often-true script about a daughter's teenage season of life. Author, blogger, and mom to four daughters Kari Kampakis thinks it's time to change the narrative and mind-set that leads moms to parent teen girls with a spirit of defeat instead of strength. Love Her Well isn't a guide to help mothers "fix" their daughters or make them behave. It's about a mom's journey, doing the heart-work necessary to love a teenager while still being a steady, supportive parent. Kari offers wisdom about how moms can: Choose their words and timing carefully. Listen and empathize with her teen's world. See the good, and love her for who she is. Take care of themselves and find a support system in the process. By working on the foundation, habits, and dynamics of the relationship; mothers can connect with their teen daughters and earn a voice in their lives that allows moms to offer guidance, love, wisdom, and emotional support. Kari gives mothers hope, wisdom, and a reminder that all things are possible through God, who is the source of the guidance and clarity they need in order to grow strong relationships with their daughters at every age—especially during the critical teen years.

Book Synopsis Beyond The Pride and The Privilege by : Agustina Purnamasari
Download or read book Beyond The Pride and The Privilege written by Agustina Purnamasari and published by IAP. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attrition among doctoral students has become a perennial issue in higher education (Gardner, 2009; Golde, 2000) as 40 to 60 percent of doctoral students do not complete their program of study (Bair &Haworth, 2005). Such outcomes are inconsistent with the rigorous evaluation that occurs prior to being accepted into a doctoral program (Bair & Haworth, 2005). Despite deemed levels of student excellence, promise and efforts made by programs to counter student departure (Offerman, 2011), attrition rates remain alarmingly high (Bair & Haworth, 2005; Gardner, 2009). The purpose of this book is to provide a view into doctoral student work-lives and their efforts to find a balance between often seemingly conflicting responsibilities. In addition to contributing to the ongoing dialogue on work-life balance in doctoral studies (Brus, 2006; Golde, 1998; Moyer, Salovey, & Casey-Cannon, 1999), the intention of this book is to provide other doctoral students with potential coping mechanisms, guidance, and assurance that they are not alone in this process. Lastly, we anticipate that these doctoral student narratives will help illuminate potential strategies that doctoral programs, departments, and institutions can incorporate in their efforts to help students successfully complete their program of study. As such the intended audience is doctoral students, higher education professionals, faculty members, and educational leaders.

Book excerpt: In 2007, fourteen-month-old Ava was diagnosed with Morquio Syndrome, a rare, progressive, genetic disorder for which there was no treatment. The jarring news left her mother Tammy reeling and wondering what the future held for her daughter. As the days following the diagnosis blurred together, Tammy saw two paths before her—fall apart or fall into the arms of the Lord. For a time, she did both, struggling with her emotions one moment, feeling God’s peace the next, all while continuing to care for her young family. Slowly, through near-constant prayer and Bible study, her burgeoning faith grew stronger than her fear and distress, leading her to a path she hadn’t seen—one that would test her even more and offer help for Ava. In She is My Child, Tammy Coulter shares her spiritual journey, alongside Ava’s physical one, from diagnosis to surgeries to a long-anticipated Morquio clinical trial that had them flying to Chicago every week for more than two years. She reveals the most difficult moments and the greatest victories, as well as the humorous situations she and her daughter so often encountered, while highlighting God’s provision and what He taught her along the way.

Book Synopsis Come Walk with Me: Messages from Yeshua by : Jeri Castronova PhD
Download or read book Come Walk with Me: Messages from Yeshua written by Jeri Castronova PhD and published by BookLocker.com, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-08-10 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not a religious book. These stories came before religion. These are the stories the patriarchy deleted, the truth of Yeshua’s life that have never been told, until Now. Yeshua could not have become the Divine Masculine Christ without his Divine Feminine counterpart. This book is for those who thirst for more about the true teachings, healings, miracles, travels to Tibet, India, Glastonbury, Egypt, Turkey, France, and marriage to his Beloved Mary Magdalene. Many Christians believe all they have to do is believe in Yeshua without doing anything else—no kindness to others or to animals, no helping the poor, no generosity to the sick. Yeshua emphasized serving others and doing inner work by living his teachings through the loving vibration of his words. Many have given up on Yeshua and turned to new gods—money, technology, science, and control. They don’t realize they have insulted not only themselves, but God. They willingly submit to mass hypnosis which keeps them under the spell of evil leaders who claim their souls and keep them subservient to satanic forces. In past life regressions many years ago, the Author saw herself as an apostle who was close to Yeshua. She never told anyone about this life or other lifetimes, but they opened up new vistas in her current life that brought realization of new talents that could be reawakened. And so began memories of her life as the Apostle John, not the Baptist, rather the one known as John the Beloved. Yeshua said many of her memories would be in the book as personal experiences and eye-witness accounts to healings, miracles, travels, and quiet moments of contemplation with the followers. Yeshua Today: The Romans didn’t want people to worship a God, Goddess, or anyone else except them. So it was then, and so it is now. They were the reptilians, the dracos, and the cabal. They later became the Nazis, the Bolsheviks, the communists, and the socialists in your countries. They are the same as they were when I walked with you in those days. It has taken two thousand years for people to wake up to the slavery they live under. You incarnated now to clear the earth of these evil ones and deliver Gaia to her peaceful, loving Beauty she deserves. A Message from Mary Magdalene: I have had so many lifetimes, always returning in forms to serve the Mother and to be a physical embodiment of love, of beauty, so being the Oracle at Delphi was my role appropriate to that time, when the seeker, shall we say, of which you were one, believed that they had to find one who had the wisdom, insight, the vision to guide them but the important part of this is the advancement of what we would call human and spiritual evolution that they have moved so far beyond this. My Beloved Sisters and Brothers: None of you have come to the planet at this time to be hidden away, whether it is a temple, a cave or social isolation. You have not come to live that way. So what I say to you which is what I have said always – STEP FORWARD AND DECLARE YOUR FREEDOM and it is too DARN BAD if those who are nervous or insular do not like what you have to say. IT IS TIME TO BE HEARD! It is time for your voice to ring out! It is the vibration that courses through the words. The vibration of love and yes the vibration of truth as well. And there are many upon the planet even now who are experiencing the fulfillment of what they have been told long ago in Delphi. This is the generation that is seeing Revelation come to fruition. Yeshua calls to You who feel lost, controlled, or beaten down by life. He tells You to not lose Hope. His Love is around You, sustained by the Holy Breath of God.
Book Synopsis We Who Walk the Seven Ways by : Terra Trevor
Download or read book We Who Walk the Seven Ways written by Terra Trevor and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2023 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We Who Walk the Seven Ways is Terra Trevor's memoir about seeking healing and finding belonging. After she endured a difficult loss, a circle of Native women elders embraced and guided Trevor (Cherokee, Lenape, Seneca, and German) through the seven cycles of life in Indigenous ways. Over three decades, these women lifted her from grief, instructed her in living, and showed her how to age from youth into beauty. With tender honesty, Trevor explores how every end is always a beginning. Her reflections on the deep power of women's friendship, losing a child, reconciling complicated roots, and finding richness in every stage of life show that being an American Indian with a complex lineage is not about being part something, but about being part of something.
Download or read book Granny D written by Doris Haddock and published by Villard. This book was released on 2001-06-12 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "There's a cancer, and it's killing our democracy. A poor man has to sell his soul to get elected. I cry for this country." On February 29, 2000, ninety-year-old Doris “Granny D” Haddock completed her 3,200-mile, fourteen-month walk from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. She walked through 105-degree deserts and blinding blizzards, despite arthritis and emphysema. Along her way, her remarkable speeches — rich with wisdom, love, and political insight — transformed individuals and communities and jump-started a full-blown movement. She became a national heroine. On her journey, Haddock kept a diary — tracking the progress of her walk and recalling events in her life and the insights that have given her. Granny D celebrates an exuberant life of love, activism, and adventure — from writing one-woman feminist plays in the 1930s to stopping nuclear testing near an Eskimo fishing village in 1960 to Haddock’s current crusade. Threaded throughout is the spirit of her beloved hometown of Dublin/Peterborough, New Hampshire — Thornton Wilder’s inspirations for Grovers Croner in Out Town — a quintessentially American center of New England pluck, Yankee ingenuity and can-do attitude. Told in Doris Haddock’s distinct and unforgettable voice, Granny D will move, amuse, and inspire readers of all ages with its clarion message that one person can indeed make a difference.
