Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Dad, My Mate and Grandad The year is 2014 and quite remarkably my father will be 80 in July. After a near miss in 2009 when he nearly left the planet due to heart failure I started to think about the impact and contribution my dad has had on my life and the fact that at the age of 43 I am comfortable with myself, like myself and am happily married with a great wife and three great children. At the time I was wondering whether I might have to say a few words when he wasn't here, although I know he knows how much I appreciate what he has done for me I thought it would be nice to write a story that he could read for his 80th Birthday. At the time of starting I have about 6 months to complete this task. I'm backed by the ability to touch type, but it's going to be a tight timescale given the usual business of life, three kids, work and football! Here goes....

Book excerpt: Bernard Malamud was one of the most accomplished American novelists of the postwar years. From the Pulitzer Prize winner The Fixer as well as The Assistant, named one of the best "100 All–Time Novels" by Time Magazine—to mention only two of the more than a dozen published books—he not only established himself in the first rank of American writers but also took the country's literature in new and important directions. In her signature memoir, Smith explores her renowned father's life and literary legacy. Malamud was among the most brilliant novelists of his era, and counted among his friends Philip Roth, Saul Bellow, Theodore Roethke, and Shirley Jackson. Yet Malamud was also very private. Only his family has had full access to his personal papers, including letters and journals that offer unique insight into the man and his work. In her candid, evocative, and loving memoir, his daughter brings Malamud to vivid life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the true story of a boy who grows up with a great and wonderful man, the love of Christ, and the harsh journey he takes to understanding grace. The desire to follow in his grandfather's footsteps is so overpowering that nothing else matters. The older the boy becomes, the harder to enjoy life outside of his grandfather's presence becomes. The turmoil of his parents and schoolmates causes great distress and pain throughout the rest of his life. The desire to be a friend to everyone and receive the love of others is tragically destroyed by the harshness of children and adults that don't know the love of Christ or care for other's emotions. The daily grind of mean children as well as schoolteachers causes this child to question who he is and if anyone can love him other than his grandfather. A true desire to understand God and understand those around him becomes too heavy, and the emotional distress that this causes nearly puts an end to this young life. Only the love of Jesus and his grandfather keeps him on the correct path of life. Fighting through the harder years of teenage life, trying to prove his worth to his father, dealing with a religious mother and the hatred of others--this story is how a young man becomes an exceptional athlete as well as a cocky womanizer. He hardens himself to those that have hurt him through the years, including his own family. The desire for his father to accept him becomes a lost cause, and he separates himself from his religious mother to go his own way. He never loses his love for his grandfather and the faith he has in God. There are harsh and emotional situations in this book. It may be hard to understand how people can be so cruel to those who want nothing more than to love and be a part of their life. This book will show you that even though you may not realize it, the Lord is with you even in times of distress. We all look for the answers in life and why we go through the things we do. This shows us that no matter what you go through there is one who is always with you and will help you get through anything. I truly believe you will enjoy this book and believe and pray the message is loud and clear. May the Lord bless you and keep you.

We follow his business career with a no-holds barred look at the people he worked with as he progressed toward becoming the Chief Executive Officer of several companies. As Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of a Fortune 500 company, he worked with the financial giants of Wall Street. Pat and his wife, Diane, took their family on annual vacations that eventually brought them to thirty countries. His insights and the humorous incidences that they encounter make for an irreverent tour guide for traveling abroad. Having survived several cancer operations, hepatitis C, cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes, dozens of kidney stones, and more than a dozen other surgeries and diseases, he calls himself, Gods lab rat. His latest cancers led his granddaughter to ask her mother, How come nothing ever kills granddad?

Gregg Wallace, star presenter of BBC's MASTERCHEF, restaurateur and expert on all things pudding, shares his story for the first time. After leaving school at 14, he started his career as a greengrocer at the New Covent Garden market and went on to create his multi-million pound fruit and veg business a decade later. A star slot on BBC VEG TALK,and an award-winning television programme followed and, in 2005, the chance to front MASTERCHEF, a show that has drawn in over 4.5 million viewers and produced some of the nation's best up-and-coming chefs. He has since opened two restaurants, Wallace & Co and Gregg's Table, penned numerous cookery books, and has written for the national and trade press. In this, his first memoir, Gregg tells how his early passion for food growing up in Peckham, south London, led to a world of Michelin star restaurants, celebrity chefs and a mission to save Britain's produce - and in an extraordinary turn with more than a few life-changing hurdles - brought him back to his roots.

Book excerpt: The year 1929 was devastating for America. It was the beginning of the Great Depression, which led to our country’s economic collapse. The author, also born in 1929, lived through those challenging Depression years, experiencing firsthand the many adaptations and sacrifices needed to survive those trying times. Now some eighty-eight years later, the author looks back to review those key principles that helped folks survive those challenging 1930s. Although the times we are living in today are radically different than in those Depression years, the author holds to the belief that if these same key principles are followed by America’s working class today, they will be more successful in meeting the challenge of our ever-changing, complex society. This book offers some suggested guides that should aid today’s workers in achieving increased financial independence by following these same key principles, with grandpa’s retirement rocking chair as the goal!
