We all have stories and experiences that have formed us into who we are. We are what we think, and the battleground is our mind. The Fight is not with the people you think are "cheap customers." It's not with the unlicensed competitors or the "illegals," as many contractors think. The Fight is with yourself. Sadly, most of the struggles contractors have are self-imposed. It's friendly fire. The negative ways we think about ourselves and our worth... friendly fire. The growing debt, working too much, small bank account... friendly fire. Winning the Fight is a choice. You're noble and full of integrity. You bend over backward to serve your family and clients. You have taken it on the chin more times than you can count. Now, it's time to get yours. Earn what you're worth. Create a business that serves you and energizes you, instead of one that beats you down. Choose to own your crap and get better today.

Book excerpt: In high school, my crush on Flynn wasn't so secret, but he was so far out of my league that I didn’t care. I had more important things to survive. Ten years have passed, I’ve built a new life, and it’s my lucky day. He's one of the eligible bachelors in the fundraising auction I'm helping organize. I saved money to donate to an organization that helped me escape a bad situation, but if I can give it to the same cause and buy a week away with Flynn, why not? *** The girl I once knew as Crazy J, the one obsessed with me in high school, just won a week with me at my lake cabin. I’ve built my empire on reputation, it’s how I land accounts worth millions, but Tilly Johnson gives zero thought to what people think of her. From her Wacky Monday work clothes to her raucous laughter, I should be cringing every time she walks into the same room as me and opens her mouth. Only I'm starting to crave it. I want more of what Tilly has to offer. Until her reputation clashes with one of my biggest accounts and threatens to bring my world crashing down. Helping her could cost me everything. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guy Newell Boothby, born in Adelaide, was one of the most popular of Australian authors in the late 19th and early 20th century, writing dozens of novels of sensational fiction. A Bid for Fortune, or Dr. Nikola’s Vendetta is the first of his series of five books featuring the sinister mastermind Dr. Nikola, a character of gothic appearance usually accompanied by a large black cat, and who has powers of mesmerism. In this first novel, the protagonist is a young Australian, Richard Hatteras, who has made a small fortune in pearl-diving operations in the Thursday Islands. With money in his pocket, he decides to travel. Visiting Sydney before taking ship for England, he meets and falls in love with the daughter of the Colonial Secretary, Sylvester Wetherell. As the story moves on, it is revealed that Wetherell has fallen foul of the evil Dr. Nikola, who has developed a devious scheme to force Wetherell to submit in to his demands to give him a mysterious oriental object he has acquired. The life and liberty of Hatteras’ lady-love are imperilled as Nikola’s plot moves on, and Hatteras has to make strenuous efforts to locate and free her. Boothby’s novels, particularly the Dr. Nikola books, achieved considerable popular success, particularly in his native country of Australia. A study of library borrowings in the early 20th Century has shown that Boothby’s works were almost as frequently borrowed in Australia as those of Charles Dickens and H. Rider Haggard. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

Book excerpt: Many people waste a great deal of time writing bids or tenders that are not successful. Even worse, they may succeed in gaining funding for a project or service where the plans and budgeting are poorly thought through in relation to the implementation or application. That can be a very costly mistake if the funding you gain is insufficient but you are stuck with developing the project or service. "Making an Effective Bid" outlines everything you need to know for writing successful bids and tenders. It is full of tips and advice and introduces ideas for building up contacts, setting up networks, organising potential collaborators and avoiding pitfalls. Examples of successful and not-so-successful bids are included to fully illustrate the concepts. With practice, you should become more adept at writing bids and gaining funds that further your work and career. This book is a vital guide for those in health and social care who are required to, or want to, make a bid or tender for resources - for money, work, staff, equipment, research, educational activities or a new service.
