He afterwards went to Pise returned to Florence, and then to Spain intending to establish a sculpture school at Grenade. He made for the chapter hall of this town a medallion which did him much credit; and yet he staid there but a short time being engaged to go to Seville where he performed great works for the rich convent of the Hiero nimiters of Buenavista. It is said that Torrigiano had a lively altercation with the duke of Arcos who would not give a reasonable price for a statue of the Virgin Mary executed by our artist; but he had the spirit to dash in pieces in the presence of the duke his work.
