Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing (ICIAP 2005), held in Cagliari, Italy, at the conference centre “Centro della Cultura e dei Congressi”, on September 6–8, 2005. ICIAP 2005 was the thirteenth edition of a series of conferences organized every two years by the Italian group of researchersa?liated to the International Association for Pattern Recognition (GIRPR) with the aim to bring together researchers in image processing and pattern recognition from around the world. As for the previous editions, conference topics concerned the theory of image analysis and processing and its classical and Internet-driven applications. The central theme of ICIAP 2005 was “Pattern Recognition in the Internet and Mobile Communications Era”. The interest for such a theme was con?rmed by the large number of papers dealing with it, the special session devoted to pattern recognition for computer network security, and the emphasis of two invited talks on Internet and mobile communication issues. ICIAP 2005 received 217 paper submissions. Fifteen papers were collected into the two special sessions dealing with Pattern Recognition for Computer Network Security and Computer Vision for Augmented Reality and Augmented Environments.
Book Synopsis Technology Development for Army Unmanned Ground Vehicles by : National Research Council
Download or read book Technology Development for Army Unmanned Ground Vehicles written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-02-01 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) are expected to play a key role in the Army's Objective Force structure. These UGVs would be used for weapons platforms, logistics carriers, and reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition among other things. To examine aspects of the Army's UGV program, assess technology readiness, and identify key issues in implementing UGV systems, among other questions, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Research and Technology asked the National Research Council (NRC) to conduct a study of UGV technologies. This report discusses UGV operational requirements, current development efforts, and technology integration and roadmaps to the future. Key recommendations are presented addressing technical content, time lines, and milestones for the UGV efforts.

Book Synopsis Embedded Computer Vision by : Branislav Kisacanin
Download or read book Embedded Computer Vision written by Branislav Kisacanin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-26 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a graduate student at Ohio State in the mid-1970s, I inherited a unique c- puter vision laboratory from the doctoral research of previous students. They had designed and built an early frame-grabber to deliver digitized color video from a (very large) electronic video camera on a tripod to a mini-computer (sic) with a (huge!) disk drive—about the size of four washing machines. They had also - signed a binary image array processor and programming language, complete with a user’s guide, to facilitate designing software for this one-of-a-kindprocessor. The overall system enabled programmable real-time image processing at video rate for many operations. I had the whole lab to myself. I designed software that detected an object in the eldofview, trackeditsmovementsinrealtime, anddisplayedarunningdescription of the events in English. For example: “An object has appeared in the upper right corner...Itismovingdownandtotheleft...Nowtheobjectisgettingcloser...The object moved out of sight to the left”—about like that. The algorithms were simple, relying on a suf cient image intensity difference to separate the object from the background (a plain wall). From computer vision papers I had read, I knew that vision in general imaging conditions is much more sophisticated. But it worked, it was great fun, and I was hooked.
Book Synopsis Advances In Climbing And Walking Robots - Proceedings Of 10th International Conference (Clawar 2007) by : Ming Xie
Download or read book Advances In Climbing And Walking Robots - Proceedings Of 10th International Conference (Clawar 2007) written by Ming Xie and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007-07-11 with total page 787 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robotics is an exciting field in engineering and natural sciences. Robotics has already made a significant contribution to many industries with the widespread use of industrial robots for tasks such as assembly, welding, painting, and handling materials. In parallel, we have witnessed the emergence of special robots which can undertake assistive jobs, such as search and rescue, de-mining, surveillance, exploration, and security functions. Indeed, the interest in mobile machines, such as climbing and walking robots, has broadened the scope of investigation in robotics. This volume covers broad topics related to mobile machines in general, and climbing and walking robots in particular. Papers from the following keynote speakers are included: Heinz Worn (University of Karlsruhe, Germany), Atsuo Takanishi (University of Waseda, Japan), John Billingsley (University of Southern Queensland, Australia), Bryan Bridge (London South Bank University, UK) and Neville Hogan (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA).
