Book excerpt: In multi-agent-based simulation (MABS) the behavior of individual actors is modeled in detail. The analysis and validation of these models is rated as difficult and requires support by innovative techniques and tools. Problems include model complexity, the amount and often qualitative representation of simulation results, and the typical dichotomy between microscopic modeling and macroscopic observation perspectives. In recent years, data mining has been increasingly applied as a support technique in this context. A particularly promising approach is found in the field of process mining. Due to its rooting in business process analysis, process mining shares several process- and organization-oriented analysis perspectives and use cases with agent-based modeling. This thesis proposes a conceptual framework for the systematic application of process mining to the analysis and validation of MABS. As a foundation, agent-oriented analysis perspectives and simulation-specific use cases are identified and complemented with methods, techniques, and results from the literature. A partial formalization of perspectives and use cases is sketched by utilizing concepts from process modeling and software engineering. Beyond the conceptual work, process mining is applied in two case studies related to different modeling and simulation approaches.

Book excerpt: Modern imaging techniques and computational simulations yield complex multi-valued data that require higher-order mathematical descriptors. This book addresses topics of importance when dealing with such data, including frameworks for image processing, visualization and statistical analysis of higher-order descriptors. It also provides examples of the successful use of higher-order descriptors in specific applications and a glimpse of the next generation of diffusion MRI. To do so, it combines contributions on new developments, current challenges in this area and state-of-the-art surveys. Compared to the increasing importance of higher-order descriptors in a range of applications, tools for analysis and processing are still relatively hard to come by. Even though application areas such as medical imaging, fluid dynamics and structural mechanics are very different in nature they face many shared challenges. This book provides an interdisciplinary perspective on this topic with contributions from key researchers in disciplines ranging from visualization and image processing to applications. It is based on the 5th Dagstuhl seminar on Visualization and Processing of Higher Order Descriptors for Multi-Valued Data. This book will appeal to scientists who are working to develop new analysis methods in the areas of image processing and visualization, as well as those who work with applications that generate higher-order data or could benefit from higher-order models and are searching for novel analytical tools.

This book was released on 2013-01-30 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many different quality approaches are available in the software industry. Some of the ap-proaches, such as ISO 9001 are not software specific, i.e. they define general requirements for an organization and they can be used at any company. Others, such as Automotive SPICE have been derived from a software specific approach, and can be used for improving specific (in this case automotive) processes. Some are created to improve development processes (e.g. CMMI for Development), others focus on services (e.g. CMMI for Services), and again others are related to particular processes such as software testing (e.g. TMMi) or resource manage-ment (e.g. People CMM). A number of differences among quality approaches exist and there can be various situations in which the usage of multiple approaches is required, e.g. to strengthen a particular process with multiple quality approaches or to reach certification of the compliance to a number of stand-ards. First of all it has to be decided which approaches have potential for the organization. In many cases one approach does not contain enough information for process implementation. Consequently, the organization may need to use several approaches and the decision has to be made how the chosen approaches can be used simultaneously. This area is called Multi-model Software Process Improvement (MSPI). The simultaneous usage of multiple quality ap-proaches is called the multi-model problem. In this dissertation we propose a solution for the multi-model problem which we call the Pro-cess Based Unification (PBU) framework. The PBU framework consists of the PBU concept, a PBU process and the PBU result. We call PBU concept the mapping of quality approaches to a unified process. The PBU concept is operationalized by a PBU process. The PBU result includes the resulting unified process and the mapping of quality approaches to the unified process. Accordingly, we addressed the following research question: Does the PBU framework provide a soluti

Book excerpt: This paper proposes a multi-criteria decision making method called the neutrosophic data analytical hierarchy process (NDAHP) for the single-valued neutrosophic set (SVNS). This method is an extension of the neutrosophic analytic hierarchy process (NAHP) but was designed to handle actual datasets which consists of crisp values. Our proposed NDAHP method uses an objective weighting mechanism whereas all other existing versions of the AHP, fuzzy AHP and other fuzzy based AHP method in literature such as the NAHP and picture fuzzy AHP uses a subjective weighting mechanism to arrive at the decision. This makes our proposed NDAHP method a very objective one as the weightage of the criteria which forms the input of the evaluation matrix are determined in an objective manner using actual data collected for the problem, and hence will not change according to the opinions of the different decision makers which are subjective. The proposed NDAHP method is applied to a multi-criteria decision making problem related to the ranking of the financial performance of five public listed petrochemical companies trading in the main board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE). Actual dataset of 15 financial indices for the five petrochemical companies for 2017 obtained from Yahoo! Finance were used in this study. Following this, a brief comparative study is conducted to evaluate the performance of our NDAHP algorithm against the results of other existing SVNS based decision making methods in literature. The results are compared against actual results obtained from KLSE. To further verify the rankings obtained through each method, the Spearman and Pearson ranking tests are carried out on each of the decision making methods that are studied. It is proved that our proposed NDAHP method produces the most accurate results, and this was further verified from the results of the Spearman and Pearson ranking tests.

Book excerpt: This book introduces models and methodologies that can be employed towards making the Industry 4.0 vision a reality within the process industries, and at the same time investigates the impact of uncertainties in such highly integrated settings. Advances in computing power along with the widespread availability of data have led process industries to consider a new paradigm for automated and more efficient operations. The book presents a theoretically proven optimal solution to multi-parametric linear and mixed-integer linear programs and efficient solutions to problems such as process scheduling and design under global uncertainty. It also proposes a systematic framework for the uncertainty-aware integration of planning, scheduling and control, based on the judicious coupling of reactive and proactive methods. Using these developments, the book demonstrates how the integration of different decision-making layers and their simultaneous optimisation can enhance industrial process operations and their economic resilience in the face of uncertainty.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An event that rises and falls in the peak value of the amplitude of a certain data as measured through the data acquisition process is known as fluctuation. Fluctuations usually occur because the data obtained during the acquisition process is mixed with noise. Therefore, an analytical approach is needed that can process signal fluctuations to identify the characteristics of a material. This study uses an object made of H2O material used as a measurement platform or footing. The other ingredients are H2O mixed with HCl and H2O mixed with NaOH. The initial processing approach is related to the material identification system using a capacitive sensor based on the Impedance Spectroscopy (SI) method. This study aims to develop a method for processing multi-frequency signal fluctuations resulting from data acquisition of Multi-Spectral Capacitive Sensors (MSCS). An approach to representing the observed fluctuations in data acquisition results is based on the statistical mean and standard deviation of the observed noise spectral in a large number of data sets. The results of signal fluctuations are divided into several types, namely: Mean Fluctuation (MF), High Fluctuation (HF), and High High-Fluctuation (HHF). Several approaches are taken for processing fluctuations, such as the data consistency process to see the stability of the data from the initial processing stage. Next is the stage of grouping data with several new approach methods. Another method that we use is the segmentation method which uses several filters that can divide some signals in the form of fluctuation patterns into several segments. From several approach methods that have been carried out, the results show that some of these methods can identify multi-spectral fluctuation patterns so that it will be easier for the next identification process.
