This book was released on 2009-10-20 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Sustainable Development is the component of Encyclopedia of Development and Economic Sciences in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. Sustainable Development is a term of differing definitions. Standing alone, the term is abstract and ambiguous. The meaning most often cited is that adopted by the World Commission on Environment and Development: meeting today’s true needs and opportunities without jeopardizing the integrity of the planetary life-support base – the environment – and diminishing its ability to provide for needs, opportunities, and quality of life in the future. This definition may serve as a general principle, but for a guide to action its components sustainability and development must be given substance: what is to be sustained and what developed? Is development essentially economic or material growth, and is sustainability mostly a means to keep economic growth growing? Consequently, should development represent means toward ecologically sustainable ends? The concept of ecological sustainability has been advanced as a restriction on economic development. It follows therefore that principles of sustainable development depend upon how the term is understood and how it is put into practice. Even so the definition of the World Commission on Environment and Development, given the adequate definition of variable needs, provides the most reliable principle for testing the qualitative and ecological sustainability of development proposals. The Theme on Principles of Sustainable Development, in three volumes, deals with the diversity of points of view on this complex subject. These three volumes are aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College students Educators, Professional practitioners, Research personnel and Policy analysts, managers, and decision makers and NGOs.

Book excerpt: This second volume of the Vienna Lectures on Legal Philosophy series presents 11 chapters which are dedicated to normativist and anti-normativist approaches to law. The book focuses on the question: What is law? Is it a set of obligations imposed on courts and officials to guide their conduct and to assess the conduct of others? Or is it the result of settlements reached by opposing sides that accept arrangements and understandings to sustain peaceful cooperation? If law is the former its significance and meaning are independent of a shifting constellation of forces; if it is not, then what the law says depends on the relative power and prestige of the actors involved. With contributions from some of the leading scholars in the field, the collection presents a balanced and nuanced assessment of what is perhaps the most controversial debate in contemporary legal philosophy today.

Sanskar News "India has just taken a giant leap into the world of independent publishing with the launch of The Holistic Pine." The Gram Today Authenticity, Brevity, and Clarity We experience information overload, the moment we search something online, especially when this search is regarding courses and careers. What guarantee do we have that the information we receive online is genuine or not? How many hours should we dedicate to sift through the data available? How could we identify the authenticity of information? Instead of spending hours and hours of time and energy, The Holistic Pine is making it easier for the reader to get authentic information within a short period of time. This is one of the reasons educational insitutions are moving massively towards The Holistic Pine, where you get Authenticity, Brevity, and Clarity. There is still another reason. Most academic journals subscribed by college/school libraries do not create readers out of students. Most students avoid them. However, The Holistic Pine is unique in its appeal. That's where The Holistic Pine becomes different. It has created a bridge between the magazine culture and journal culture, offering in each issue a highly stylised reading material that attracts students and scholars. The Holistic Pine, thus, becomes an academic asset in educational institutions, scholars, UPSC, PSC, and Civil Service or IAS aspirants, and general readers.
