Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A choice model based on direct utility maximization subject to an arbitrary number of constraints is developed and applied to conjoint data. The model can accommodate oth corner and interior solutions, and provides insights into the proportion of respondents bound by each constraint. Application to volumetric choice data reveals the majority of respondents make choices consistent with price and quantity restrictions. Estimates based on a single monetary-constraint choice model are shown to lead to biased estimates of the monetary value of attribute-levels.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'This collection of papers, by leading researchers in the field, provides an excellent view of the current state of research and applications. Exciting new techniques are presented, and realistic solutions are offered to issues that arise in applied work. It is an admirably rich volume, offering valuable insights for all readers of choice modeling.' Kenneth Train, University of California, Berkeley and NERA Economic Consulting, Inc., San Francisco, California, US 'I'm an enthusiastic fan of the ICMC, where researchers are friendly, genuinely interested in learning from and helping one another. There is much to learn because each discipline brings a different perspective to the field and to theoretical and applied problems in decision-making and choice behavior. The ICMC embodies the philosophy that most real choice problems are complex and require a cross-disciplinary approach. The papers in this volume represent an eclectic cross-section of the topics covered by key researchers in the field. I look forward to getting our PhD students and postdocs stuck into them.' Jordan Louviere, University of Technology Sydney, Australia Choice modelling has been one of the most active fields in economics over recent years. This valuable new book contains leading contributions from academics and practitioners from across the different areas of study where choice modelling is a key analytical technique, drawn from a recent international conference. Choice models explain the behaviour of individuals by quantifying their values, responses and perceptions of attributes describing the various options (alternatives) available to them. Policy makers and planners have long since recognised the potential of using choice models for guidance purposes, with applications in fields as diverse as transport analysis, healthcare, telecommunications, public service evaluation and energy. The unique mix of theoretical and applied chapters will appeal to academics, students, researchers and practitioners in various fields, as well as anyone with a general interest in the subject.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Choice Models in Marketing examines recent developments in the modeling of choice for marketing and reviews a large stream of research currently being developed by both quantitative and qualitative researches in marketing. Choice in marketing differs from other domains in that the choice context is typically very complex, and researchers' desire knowledge of the variables that ultimately lead to demand in marketplace. The marketing choice context is characterized by many choice alternatives. The aim of Choice Models in Marketing is to lay out the foundations of choice models and discuss recent advances. The authors focus on aspects of choice that can be quantitatively modeled and consider models related to a process of constrained utility maximization. By reviewing the basics of choice modeling and pointing to new developments, Choice Models in Marketing provides a platform for future research.

Book excerpt: Fine-tune your marketing research with this cutting-edge statistical toolkit Bayesian Statistics and Marketing illustrates the potential for applying a Bayesian approach to some of the most challenging and important problems in marketing. Analyzing household and consumer data, predicting product performance, and custom-targeting campaigns are only a few of the areas in which Bayesian approaches promise revolutionary results. This book provides a comprehensive, accessible overview of this subject essential for any statistically informed marketing researcher or practitioner. Economists and other social scientists will find a comprehensive treatment of many Bayesian methods that are central to the problems in social science more generally. This includes a practical approach to computationally challenging problems in random coefficient models, non-parametrics, and the problems of endogeneity. Readers of the second edition of Bayesian Statistics and Marketing will also find: Discussion of Bayesian methods in text analysis and Machine Learning Updates throughout reflecting the latest research and applications Discussion of modern statistical software, including an introduction to the R package bayesm, which implements all models incorporated here Extensive case studies throughout to link theory and practice Bayesian Statistics and Marketing is ideal for advanced students and researchers in marketing, business, and economics departments, as well as for any statistically savvy marketing practitioner.

Book excerpt: Reorientation from economic controls to a market-based approach led to significant changes in the economic policy of developing countries in the 1980s. Yet, with governments continuing to exercise economic management to accelerate growth beyond that achieved by market forces, techniques and models of development planning are still an integral feature of development policy management. Development Policy and Planning provides a non-technical explanation of the main techniques and models used for economic policy formulation. Each technique is illustrated in application through practical examples.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Equilibrium Theory: An Introduction treats the classic Arrow-Debreu general equilibrium model in a form accessible to graduate students and advanced undergraduates in economics and mathematics. Topics covered include mathematical preliminaries, households and firms, existence of general equilibrium, Pareto efficiency of general equilibrium, the First and Second Fundamental Theorems of Welfare Economics, the core and core convergences, future markets over time and contingent commodity markets under uncertainty. Demand, supply, and excess demand appear first as (point-valued) functions, then optionally as (set-valued) correspondences. The mathematics presented (with elementary proofs of the theorems) includes a real analysis, the Brouwer fixed point theorem, and separating and supporting hyperplane theorems. Optional chapters introduce the existence of equilibrium with set-valued supply and demand, the mathematics of upper and lower hemicontinuous correspondences, and the Kakutani fixed point theorem. The treatment emphasizes clarity and accessibility to the student through use of examples and intuition.
