Book excerpt: Christoph G. Schuetz examines the conceptual modeling aspects of multilevel business processes without neglecting the implementation aspects. Furthermore, he investigates the advantages of hetero-homogeneous models for quantitative business process analysis. Multilevel models reflect the reality of many information systems. In this respect process-aware information systems are no exception. Multilevel models capture interdependencies between business processes at different organizational levels and allow for a convenient representation of business process variability which, in turn, facilitates the analysis of business processes across different organizational units. Contents Core Metamodel for Multilevel Objects Multilevel Business Artifacts Hetero-Homogeneous Business Process Models Multilevel Business Process Automation Multilevel Business Process Intelligence Target Groups Researchers and students in business informatics, computer science, and business administration. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edited by Jussi Kantola, the founding faculty member of the world’s first university Knowledge Service Engineering Department at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and Waldemar Karwowski from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems at UCF, Knowledge Service Engineering Handbook defines what knowledge services engineering means and how it is different from service engineering and service production. This groundbreaking handbook explores recent advances in knowledge service engineering from the accomplished researchers and practitioners in this field from around the world and provides engineering, systemic, industry, and consumer use viewpoints to knowledge service systems and engineering paradigms. The handbook outlines how to acquire and utilize knowledge in the 21st century presenting multiple cultural aspects including US, European, and Asian perspectives. Organized into four parts, it begins with an introduction to the main concepts of knowledge services. It then explores data, information and knowledge based engineering methods and applications that can be used to develop knowledge services, followed by discussions of the importance of human networks in knowledge services. The handbook concludes with descriptions of high-performance knowledge service systems. This structure allows different uses: the information can be looked up as needed or read in the order presented. As with any new field, the excitement lies in seeing how to combine these advances in data, information, and human parts of knowledge services in the future. While most books on this subject concentrate on data, information, or knowledge, this handbook integrates coverage of all three, thus providing a complete examination of sustainable knowledge services. The handbook has been carefully designed to be of use to professionals who develop new knowledge services and related businesses, for academic researchers and lecturers to start new research projects, and for students studying knowledge services, knowledge service production, and knowledge service business.

Book excerpt: th CAiSE 2004 was the 16 in the series of International Conferences on Advanced Information Systems Engineering. In the year 2004 the conference was hosted by the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Riga Technical University, Latvia. Since the late 1980s, the CAiSE conferences have provided a forum for the presentation and exchange of research results and practical experiences within the ?eld of Information Systems Engineering. The conference theme of CAiSE 2004 was Knowledge and Model Driven Information Systems Engineering for Networked Organizations. Modern businesses and IT systems are facing an ever more complex en- ronment characterized by openness, variety, and change. Organizations are - coming less self-su?cient and increasingly dependent on business partners and other actors. These trends call for openness of business as well as IT systems, i.e. the ability to connect and interoperate with other systems. Furthermore, organizations are experiencing ever more variety in their business, in all c- ceivable dimensions. The di?erent competencies required by the workforce are multiplying. In the same way, the variety in technology is overwhelming with a multitude of languages, platforms, devices, standards, and products. Moreover, organizations need to manage an environment that is constantly changing and where lead times, product life cycles, and partner relationships are shortening. ThedemandofhavingtoconstantlyadaptITtochangingtechnologiesandbu- ness practices has resulted in the birth of new ideas which may have a profound impact on the information systems engineering practices in future years, such as autonomic computing, component and services marketplaces and dynamically generated software.

Book excerpt: Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2018 in the subject Leadership and Human Resource Management - Management Styles, grade: 4.1, University of Kelaniya, language: English, abstract: The objective of the study is to explore the specific charismatic behavioural characteristics in leaders of virtual teams. The charismatic leadership model developed by Conger and Kanungo (1988) is the main theoretical framework for building this research argument. The Sri Lankan BPO sector was selected as the study setting and its virtuality was primarily tested using the virtuality index. The study is a mixed method research study and followed a sequential exploratory mixed method design. The quantitative data was collected by a survey method using C-K scale and qualitative data collection was based on in-depth interviews and focused group discussions based on the questionnaire draws from the C-K scale. Factor analysis was employed to capture the behavioural characteristics of virtual charismatic leaders. Furthermore, the study found that charismatic leadership behaviours were present in the team leaders in BPO companies. The Factor Analysis created a new array of factors to describe the charismatic leadership behaviours in a virtual context. The major contribution emphasized a new set of charismatic leadership behaviours present in leaders of virtual teams. A new model of virtual charismatic leadership was developed including seven behavioural characteristics. By comparing the charismatic behaviours of the Conger and Kanungo model and the proposed model, it was able to discover three behaviours that are unique to the virtual setting, to put forward the originality of the study: They are building trust in followers, the adaptive behaviour, and dealing with diversity. This study added new dimensions to charismatic leadership and can be seen as an extension to the existing model of charismatic leadership of Conger and Kanungo (1998). Next, a detailed behavioural profile of virtual charismatic leaders was developed. In addition, to a concise conceptualization of virtual charismatic leadership it was also given to enrich the literature on leadership. The contribution to the knowledge and the implications were also elaborated, followed by future research directions.

The book examines a variety of issues in software crowdsourcing processes, including software quality, costs, diversity of solutions, and the competitive nature of crowdsourcing processes. Furthermore, the book outlines a research roadmap of this emerging field, including all the key technology and management issues for the foreseeable future. Crowdsourcing, as demonstrated by Wikipedia and Facebook for online web applications, has shown promising results for a variety of applications, including healthcare, business, gold mining exploration, education, and software development. Software crowdsourcing is emerging as a promising solution to designing, developing and maintaining software. Preliminary software crowdsourcing practices and platforms, including Apple's App Store and TopCoder, demonstrate the advantages of crowdsourcing in terms of software ecosystem expansion and product quality improvement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political scientists have always accorded interest organizations a prominent place in European Union (EU) policy-making because they connect the EU institutions to citizens, provide important information to EU policy-makers, and control resources that impact on the problem-solving capacity of EU policies. In other words, they are vital to both the input legitimacy and the output legitimacy of the EU. So far, research on interest organizations in EU policy-making has concentrated on EU-level interest organizations and EU-level politics. This edited book draws attention to the role national interest organizations play in the EU multilevel system. All contributions present state-of-the-art research on that subject in the form of theory-driven empirical analyses.
