Download or read book Hyper-Heuristics: Theory and Applications written by Nelishia Pillay and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-05 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introduction to the field of hyper-heuristics presents the required foundations and tools and illustrates some of their applications. The authors organized the 13 chapters into three parts. The first, hyper-heuristic fundamentals and theory, provides an overview of selection constructive, selection perturbative, generation constructive and generation perturbative hyper-heuristics, and then a formal definition of hyper-heuristics. The chapters in the second part of the book examine applications of hyper-heuristics in vehicle routing, nurse rostering, packing and examination timetabling. The third part of the book presents advanced topics and then a summary of the field and future research directions. Finally the appendices offer details of the HyFlex framework and the EvoHyp toolkit, and then the definition, problem model and constraints for the most tested combinatorial optimization problems. The book will be of value to graduate students, researchers, and practitioners.

Macintosh, Napier University, UK The papers in this volume are the refereed application papers presented at ES2004, the Twenty-fourth SGAI International Conference on Innovative Techniques and Applications of Artificial Intelligence, held in Cambridge in December 2004. The conference was organised by SGAI, the British Computer Society Specialist Group on Artificial Intelligence. This volume contains twenty refereed papers which present the innovative application of a range of AI techniques in a number of subject domains. This year, the papers are divided into sections on Synthesis and Prediction, Scheduling and Search, Diagnosis and Monitoring, Classification and Design, and Analysis and Evaluation This year's prize for the best refereed application paper, which is being sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry, was won by a paper entitled "A Case-Based Technique for Tracking Concept Drift in Spam Filtering". The authors are Sarah Jane Delany, from the Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland, and Padraig Cunningham, Alexey Tsymbal, and Lorcan Coyle from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. This is the twelfth volume in the Applications and Innovations series. The Technical Stream papers are published as a companion volume under the title Research and Development in Intelligent Systems XXI. On behalf of the conference organising committee I should like to thank all those who contributed to the organisation of this year's application programme, in particular the programme committee members, the executive programme committee and our administrators Linsay Turbert and Collette Jackson.

Book Synopsis Planning, Scheduling and Constraint Satisfaction by : Luis Castillo
Download or read book Planning, Scheduling and Constraint Satisfaction written by Luis Castillo and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing artificial intelligence planning and scheduling applications into the real world is a hard task that is receiving more attention every day by researchers and practitioners from many fields. In many cases, it requires the integration of several underlying techniques like planning, scheduling, constraint satisfaction, mixed-initiative planning and scheduling, temporal reasoning, knowledge representation, formal models and languages, and technological issues. Most papers included in this book are clear examples on how to integrate several of these techniques. Furthermore, the book also covers many interesting approaches in application areas ranging from industrial job shop to electronic tourism, environmental problems, virtual teaching or space missions. This book also provides powerful techniques that allow to build fully deployable applications to solve real problems and an updated review of many of the most interesting areas of application of these technologies, showing how powerful these technologies are to overcome the expresiveness and efficiency problems of real world problems.
Book Synopsis Multicriteria Scheduling by : Vincent T'Kindt
Download or read book Multicriteria Scheduling written by Vincent T'Kindt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-11 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scheduling and multicriteria optimisation theory have been subject, separately, to numerous studies. Since the last twenty years, multicriteria scheduling problems have been subject to a growing interest. However, a gap between multicriteria scheduling approaches and multicriteria optimisation field exits. This book is an attempt to collect the elementary of multicriteria optimisation theory and the basic models and algorithms of multicriteria scheduling. It is composed of numerous illustrations, algorithms and examples which may help the reader in understanding the presented concepts. This book covers general concepts such as Pareto optimality, complexity theory, and general method for multicriteria optimisation, as well as dedicated scheduling problems and algorithms: just-in-time scheduling, flexibility and robustness, single machine problems, parallel machine problems, shop problems, etc. The second edition contains revisions and new material.

Book Synopsis Optimization and Logistics Challenges in the Enterprise by : Wanpracha Chaovalitwongse
Download or read book Optimization and Logistics Challenges in the Enterprise written by Wanpracha Chaovalitwongse and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-17 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world with highly competitive markets and economic instability due to capitalization, industrial competition has increasingly intensified. In order for many industries to survive and succeed, they need to develop highly effective coordination between supply chain partners, dynamic collaborative and strategic alliance relationships, and efficient logistics and supply chain network designs. Consequently, in the past decade, there has been an explosion of interest among academic researchers and industrial practitioners in innovative supply chain and logistics models, algorithms, and coordination policies. Mathematically distinct from classical supply chain management, this emerging research area has been proven to be useful and applicable to a wide variety of industries. This book brings together recent advances in supply chain and logistics research and computational optimization that apply to a collaborative environment in the enterprise.

Book Synopsis Database Theory and Application, Bio-Science and Bio-Technology by : Yanchun Zhang
Download or read book Database Theory and Application, Bio-Science and Bio-Technology written by Yanchun Zhang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-11-25 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the proceedings of the 2010 International Conferences on Database Theory and Application (DTA 2010), and Bio-Science and Bio-Technology (BSBT 2010) – two of the partnering events of the Second International Mega- Conference on Future Generation Information Technology (FGIT 2010). DTA and BSBT bring together researchers from academia and industry as well as practitioners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of databases, data mining and biomedicine, including their links to computational sciences, mathematics and information technology. In total, 1,630 papers were submitted to FGIT 2010 from 30 countries, which includes 175 papers submitted to DTA/BSBT 2010. The submitted papers went through a rigorous reviewing process: 395 of the 1,630 papers were accepted for FGIT 2010, while 40 papers were accepted for DTA/BSBT 2010. Of the 40 papers 6 were selected for the special FGIT 2010 volume published by Springer in the LNCS series. 31 papers are published in this volume, and 3 papers were withdrawn due to technical reasons. We would like to acknowledge the great effort of the DTA/BSBT 2010 International Advisory Boards and members of the International Program Committees, as well as all the organizations and individuals who supported the idea of publishing this volume of proceedings, including SERSC and Springer. Also, the success of these two conferences would not have been possible without the huge support from our sponsors and the work of the Chairs and Organizing Committee.
