Book Synopsis Multidimensional NMR Studies of Poly(ethylene-co-1-octene) Copolymers and Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl Acetate-co-carbon Monoxide) Terpolymers by : Anuttra Nuamthanom
Download or read book Multidimensional NMR Studies of Poly(ethylene-co-1-octene) Copolymers and Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl Acetate-co-carbon Monoxide) Terpolymers written by Anuttra Nuamthanom and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The comonomer and stereo-sequences of poly(ethylene-co-1-octene) samples with varying 1-octene content and degree of tacticity were investigated using high-temperature (120 °C) one- and two- dimensional (1D and 2D) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques on a 750 MHz instrument. The techniques used include quantitative 13C NMR, pulsed-field-gradient (PFG) 1H -13C heteronuclear single quantum coherence (gHSQC), heteronuclear multiple bond correlation (gHMBC) and heteronuclear single quantum coherence-total correlation spectroscopy (gHSQC-TOCSY). Diffusion-ordered 2D NMR spectroscopy (DOSY) was used to confirm that the copolymer samples were not mixtures of two copolymers with different MW. Quantitative analysis of octene content was determined from quantitative 13C NMR experiments. The degree of tacticity was established by quantitative volume integration of 2D gHSQC NMR spectra. The comonomer sequence distributions and the resonance assignments of poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate-co-carbon monoxide), polyEVC* terpolymer prepared from 13C-labeled carbon monoxide were also investigated using high temperature (120 °C) multidimensional (1D, 2D and 3D) NMR experiments on the same spectrometer. The NMR techniques used include 1D- 1H, 13C, 2D- gHSQC, gHMBC, gHSQC-TOCSY, 3D-gHCACX and 3D-gHCACX-HH-TOCSY NMR experiments. With 13C labeling of the polymer combined with high resolution multidimensional NMR experiments, pentad monomer sequence assignments can be made for the carbon monoxide (C)-centered pentads. The degradation of polyEVC* was also examined by 1D and 2D NMR. The NMR spectra show that [alpha], [beta]-unsaturated carbonyl groups are a degradation product in this terpolymer, arising from elimination of acetic acid from CV dyads.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Industrial Water Soluble Polymers by : Peter A. Williams
Download or read book Handbook of Industrial Water Soluble Polymers written by Peter A. Williams and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural and synthetic water soluble polymers are used in a wide range of familiar industrial and consumer products, including coatings and inks, papers, adhesives, cosmetics and personal care products. They perform a variety of functions without which these products would be significantly more expensive, less effective or both. Written for research, development and formulation chemists, technologists and engineers at graduate level and beyond in the fine and specialty chemicals, polymers, food and pharmaceutical industries, the Handbook of Industrial Water Soluble Polymers deals specifically with the functional properties of both natural and synthetic water soluble polymers. By taking a function based approach, rather than a “polymer specific” approach the book illustrates how polymer structure leads to effect, and shows how different polymer types can be employed to achieve appropriate product properties.

Book Synopsis Inorganic and Organometallic Polymers by : Vadapalli Chandrasekhar
Download or read book Inorganic and Organometallic Polymers written by Vadapalli Chandrasekhar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-01-18 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has its origins in courses taught by the author to various und- graduate and graduate students at the Indian Institute of Technology, K- pur, India. The diversity of inorganic chemistry and its impact on polymer chemistry has been profound. This subject matter has grown considerably in the last decade and the need to present it in a coherent manner to young minds is a pedagogic challenge. The aim of this book is to present to the students an introduction to the developments in Inorganic and - ganometallic polymers. This book is divided into eight chapters. Chapter 1 provides a general overview on the challenges of Inorganic polymer synthesis. This is f- lowed by a survey of organic polymers and also includes some basic f- tures of polymers. Chapters 3-8 deal with prominent families of inorganic and organometallic polymers. Although the target group of this book is the undergraduate and graduate students of chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science it is also hoped that chemists and related scientists in industry would find this book useful. I am extremely thankful to my wife Sudha who not only encouraged me throughout but also drew all the Figures and Schemes of this book. I also thank my children Adithya and Aarathi for their constant concern on the progress of this book. I express my acknowledgment to the editorial team of Springer-Verlag for their cooperation.
