Moving is a major life change—time consuming, expensive, often overwhelming, and sometimes scary. But it doesn’t have to be! Instead of looking at it as a burdensome chore, consider it a new adventure. Ali Wenzke and her husband moved ten times in eleven years, living in seven states across the U.S. She created her popular blog, The Art of Happy Moving, to help others build a happier life before, during, and after a move. Infused with her infectious optimistic spirit, The Art of Happy Moving builds on her blog, offering step-by-step guidance, much-needed comfort, practical information, and welcome advice on every step of the process, including: How to stage your home for prospective buyers How to choose your next neighborhood How to discard your belongings and organize your packing How to say goodbye to your friends How to make the transition easier for your kids How to decorate your new home How to build a new community And so much more. Ali shares invaluable personal anecdotes from her many moves, and packs each chapter with a wealth of information and ingenious tips (Did you know that if you have an extra-large welcome mat at the entrance of your home, it’s more likely to sell?). Ali also includes checklists for packing and staging, and agendas for the big moving day. Whether you’re a relocating professional, newly married, a family with kids and pets, or a retiree looking to downsize, The Art of Happy Moving will help you discover ways to help make your transition an easier one—and be even happier than you were before.

Edwards, professors of engineering and education, respectively, have collaborated to convert real problems from the field of operations research into 10 easy-to-use teaching modules. Relevant to Studentâs Lives Students will recognize and appreciate the contexts: queuing theory as applied to long lines for concert tickets, multi-attribute decision making for chosing a college, and maximizing profit and minimizing waste by developing a system for ordering supplies for a concession stand. More Curriculum Choices Teachers of advanced algebra, precalculus, or general survey courses can use these modules to motivate or review topics. Book Synopsis Beyond Discovery by : Director of Commercialization College of Veterinary Medicine Jean E Schelhorn
Download or read book Beyond Discovery written by Director of Commercialization College of Veterinary Medicine Jean E Schelhorn and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-01-14 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The book is a guide for academic researchers, especially scientists and engineers, on how to move their discoveries to the marketplace. Few academics understand what tech transfer is or how it works, and many shy away from it because they equate commercialization with starting a company. Yet those same individuals can be intrigued to learn of additional pathways that enable discoveries to be translated into marketable products or services. We help researchers explore multiple routes for commercialization, guides them through the personal decisions they must face, describes programs designed to help them, and provides advice to avoid common problems. We frame commercialization as the primary (often the only) way for research to solve societal problems. Impact can best be achieved if, a discovery leads to an invention/ that fills an unmet need in the marketplace. The range of entities that support technology transfer are described, and we offer best practices for researchers to maximize support the process. Engaging researchers effectively requires that institutions themselves adapt. Aligning commercialization with the rewards system is crucial, and integrating commercialization training into graduate and postdoctoral programs will produce the next generation of academic inventors. Furthermore, women and minorities face special challenges that must be overcome so that everyone's discovery receives support for commercialization. Woven through the book are profiles of academic inventors, which illustrate key points and help researchers to visualize themselves in such a role"--

Book Synopsis The Feeling Economy by : Roland T. Rust
Download or read book The Feeling Economy written by Roland T. Rust and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-19 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As machines are trained to “think,” many tasks that previously required human intelligence are becoming automated through artificial intelligence. However, it is more difficult to automate emotional intelligence, and this is where the human worker’s competitive advantage over machines currently lies. This book explores the impact of AI on everyday life, looking into workers’ adaptation to these changes, the ways in which managers can change the nature of jobs in light of AI developments, and the potential for humans and AI to continue working together. The book argues that AI is rapidly assuming a larger share of thinking tasks, leaving human intelligence to focus on feeling. The result is the “Feeling Economy,” in which both employees and consumers emphasize feeling to an unprecedented extent, with thinking tasks largely delegated to AI. The book shows both theoretical and empirical evidence that this shift is well underway. Further, it explores the effect of the Feeling Economy on our everyday lives in the areas such as shopping, politics, and education. Specifically, it argues that in this new economy, through empathy and people skills, women may gain an unprecedented degree of power and influence. This book will appeal to readers across disciplines interested in understanding the impact of AI on business and our daily lives. It represents a bold, potentially controversial attempt to gauge the direction in which society is heading.

Download or read book Walking Methods written by Maggie O'Neill and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-09 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces and critically explores walking as an innovative method for doing social research, showing how its sensate and kinaesthetic attributes facilitate connections with lived experiences, journeys and memories, communities and identities. The book situates walking methods historically, sociologically, and in relation to biographical and arts-based research, as well as new work on mobilities, the digital, spatial, and the sensory. The book is organised into three sections: theorising; experiencing; and imagining walking as a new method for doing biographical research. There is a key focus upon the Walking Interview as a Biographical Method (WIBM) on the move to usefully explore migration, memory, and urban landscapes, as part of participatory, visual, and ethnographic research with marginalised communities and artists and as re-formative and transgressive. The book concludes with autobiographical walks taken by the authors and a discussion about the future of the walking interview as biographical method. Walking Methods combines theory with a series of original ethnographic and participatory research examples. Practical exercises and a guide to using walking as a method help to make this a rich resource for social science researchers, students, walking artists, and biographical researchers.

Download or read book Change Matters written by sj Miller and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Change Matters, written by leading scholars committed to social justice in English education, provides researchers, university instructors, and preservice and inservice teachers with a framework that pivots social justice toward policy. The chapters in this volume detail rationales about generating social justice theory in what Freire calls «the revolutionary process» through essays that support research about teaching about the intersections between teaching for social change and teaching about social injustices, and directs us toward the significance of enacting social justice methodologies. The text unpacks how education, spiritual beliefs, ethnicity, age, gender, ability, social class, political beliefs, marital status, sexual orientation, gender expression, language, national origin, and education intersect with the principles by which we live and the multiple identities that we embody as we move from space to space. This book is critical reading for anyone who strives to cease inequitable schooling practices by conducting research in education to inform more just policies.

Book Synopsis Current State of Postural Research - Moving Beyond the Balance Platform by : Emily Keshner
Download or read book Current State of Postural Research - Moving Beyond the Balance Platform written by Emily Keshner and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-02-05 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of posture control has morphed over the past century from a reflex, hierarchically controlled, innate behavior to a complex and adaptable motor act highly influenced by cognitive processes as well as confidence and attentiveness of the performer. In addition, multisensory control of posture has been recognized as a process of fusion and integration rather than summation and inhibition. Advances in computational modeling and imaging have revealed that higher cortical centers are involved in production of what were previously believed to be stereotypical, triggered reactions. Emerging evidence now supports the idea that postural behaviors are regulated by distributed control in the neuraxis and shaped by dynamic interactions of sensorimotor processes in a task- and context-dependent manner.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The challenges faced by those who relocate are enormous. It is, however, a theme which has received little attention from either therapists or researchers. This volume reports on a study which describes how women dealt with moving home. Issues addressed include the extended time required to re-create a home and develop a sense of connectedness to their new environment, unexpected psychological reactions and making friends. Also addressed are specific methods for intervention for those who counsel women who have moved or are facing a move.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: »Digital media« is increasingly finding its way into the discussions of the humanities classroom. But while there is a number of grand theoretical texts about digital literature there as yet is little in the way of resources for discussing the down-to-earth practices of research, teaching, and curriculum necessary for this work to mature. This book presents contributions by scholars and teachers from different countries and academic environments who articulate their approach to the study and teaching of digital literature and thus give a broader audience an idea of the state-of-the-art of the subject matter also in international comparison.
