Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People have an interest in moving up in their jobs, financially, housing, and so many other things in life. Why do they not want to spend time moving up spiritually? Movin' Up Spiritually is an encouragement to help people mature in their relationship with God. It shows that the basic standards for life come from the Bible. As shown in this book, scriptures point the way for a harmonious and joyful life as we build our relationship with God as individuals, in a marriage relationship, and in our families. It further directs our attention to church leadership and what the body of Christ, the church, should be doing for helping people see the truth and have life.

Book Synopsis Moving Up, Moving Out by : Will Cooley
Download or read book Moving Up, Moving Out written by Will Cooley and published by Northern Illinois University Press. This book was released on 2018-10-19 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Moving Up, Moving Out, Will Cooley discusses the damage racism and discrimination have exacted on black Chicagoans in the twentieth century, while accentuating the resilience of upwardly-mobile African Americans. Cooley examines how class differences created fissures in the black community and produced quandaries for black Chicagoans interested in racial welfare. While black Chicagoans engaged in collective struggles, they also used individualistic means to secure the American Dream. Black Chicagoans demonstrated their talent and ambitions, but they entered through the narrow gate, and whites denied them equal opportunities in the educational institutions, workplaces, and neighborhoods that produced the middle class. African Americans resisted these restrictions at nearly every turn by moving up into better careers and moving out into higher-quality neighborhoods, but their continued marginalization helped create a deeply dysfunctional city. African Americans settled in Chicago for decades, inspired by the gains their forerunners were making in the city. Though faith in Chicago as a land of promise wavered, the progress of the black middle class kept the city from completely falling apart. In this important study, Cooley shows how Chicago, in all of its glory and faults, was held together by black dreams of advancement. Moving Up, Moving Out will appeal to urban historians and sociologists, scholars of African American studies, and general readers interested in Chicago and urban history.

Download or read book A Soldier's Kipling written by Edward J. Erickson and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2018-06-30 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rudyard Kipling was one of the most versatile writers of the Victorian age a journalist, storyteller, historian and poet. One of the major subjects of his poetry was the British army and the way it waged its campaigns during Queen Victorias little wars, and it is this aspect of his writing that Edward Erickson explores in this absorbing and perceptive study.Kiplings military poems offer insights into the profession of arms and how soldiers were trained and fought in distant expeditionary campaigns they bring to life the world of the Victorian soldier in the most evocative way. Although not a soldier himself, Kipling wrote about timeless themes of military and wartime service, the experience of combat, unit cohesion and individual courage.A Soldiers Kipling is an original contribution to the understanding of Kiplings work and his times, and it should lead to a fresh appreciation of a facet of his writing that has not been focused on so closely before.
