Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delo je v izvirniku pod naslovom Zvezdne poti in plesne sledi: Od Platona do romarskega vrtca izdalo Slovensko etnološko društvo leta 2021. Monografija bralcu ponuja do zdaj nepoznane in še neinterpretirane referenčne literaturo, vire in podatke ter jih postavlja v širok okvir večdisciplinarnih razlag pojavov. Avtor je zanimanje iz polja svojih domicilnih ved, etnologije in kulturne antropologije, razširil na splošno zgodovino, zgodovino plesa, filozofijo, zgodovino glasbe in cerkve, teologijo in mitologijo. Gre za lucidno, kritično, teoretsko, metodološko in vsebinsko znanstveno utemeljeno delo o zgodovini umeščanja giba/plesa v kontekst sakralnega.

Book Synopsis Religion and Empire in Portuguese India by : Ângela Barreto Xavier
Download or read book Religion and Empire in Portuguese India written by Ângela Barreto Xavier and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2022-03-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did the colonization of Goa in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries take place? How was it related to projects for the conversion of Goan colonial subjects to Catholicism? In Religion and Empire in Portuguese India, Ângela Barreto Xavier examines these questions through a reading of the relevant secular and missionary archives and texts. She shows how the twin drives of conversion and colonization in Portuguese India resulted in a variety of outcomes, ranging from negotiation to passive resistance to moments of extreme violence. Focusing on the rural hinterlands rather than the city of Goa itself, Barreto Xavier shows how Goan actors were able to seize hold of complex cultural resources in order to further their own projects and narrate their own myths and histories. In the process, she argues, Portuguese Goa emerged as a space with a specific identity that was a result of these contestations and interactions. The book de-essentializes the categories of colonizer and colonized, making visible instead their inner-group diversity of interests, their different modes of identification, and the specificity of local dynamics in their interactions and exchanges—in other words, the several threads that wove the fabric of colonial life.

Download or read book The Divine Dance written by Richard Rohr and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2016-10-28 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Divine Dance has become a classic for fans of Richard Rohr and an important book on Christian mysticism, it provides a fresh perspective for anyone studying or teaching the trinity. The Trinity is the central doctrine of Christianity, but it is still widely considered a mystery we won't ever fully understand. Should we still try to understand it, even so? If we could, how would it transform our relationship with God? In this stimulating and thought-provoking book, internationally recognised teacher Richard Rohr explores the nature of God and the paradoxical idea of the Holy Trinity as both three and one. With clear, surefooted wisdom, he encourages us to build on the early Christian understanding of the relationship between Father, Son and Spirit as a flow and dance - a Divine Dance - that we are invited to join in. An engaging, accessible look at the nature of God, The Divine Dance will challenge the way you think about the Trinity and give you a much fuller understanding of the triune relationship that is at the heart of Christian doctrine. It will leave you with a faith that is renewed and strengthened, and show you how you can engage more deeply in your relationship with God and the world through the Trinity.

Book Synopsis Sacred Woman, Sacred Dance by : Iris J. Stewart
Download or read book Sacred Woman, Sacred Dance written by Iris J. Stewart and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2000-08-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shows how dance, the highest expression of spirituality in cultures and traditions all over the world, is being integrated into the lives of women today • The first book to explore women's spiritual expression--women's ways--through a study of dance • Investigates how dance came to be excluded from worship, and reveals how dance is once again being brought into spiritual practices • Includes resources for further instruction in sacred dance Today we primarily think of dance as a form of entertainment or as a way to exercise or socialize. There was a time, however, when dance was considered the way to commune with the divine, a part of life's journey, celebrating the seasons and rhythms of the year and the rhythms of our lives. Dance is a language that reunites the body, mind, and soul. While the role of women's sacred dance was most valued in goddess-worshipping cultures where women served as priestesses and healers, dance was once an integral part of religious ritual and ceremonial expression in cultures all over the world, including Judaism and Christianity. In this book the author investigates how dance came to be excluded from worship and reveals how dance is once again being integrated into spiritual practices. Sacred Woman, Sacred Dance is the first book to explore women's spiritual expression--women's ways--through a study of dance. It describes sacred circles, birth rituals, ecstatic dances, and dances of loss and grief (in groups and individually) that allow women to integrate the movements of faith, healing, and power into their daily life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the divine is the history of human thought. For as long as men and women have pondered the mysteries of their existence, they have answered their own questions with stories of gods and goddesses. Belief in these deities shaped whole civilizations, yet today many of their names and images lie buried. The Encyclopedia of Ancient Deities makes those names available to the general reader as well as the scholar. This reference work lists all the known gods through recorded history. Alphabetically arranged entries provide the name of each deity (with alternate spellings), as well as notes on names that may be linguistically or functionally related. The tribe or culture that worshiped the deity is identified, and the god's origins and functions are explained. An extensive bibliography provides opportunities for further research and an exhaustive index provides access to the entries through virtually all names, forms and kinds of deities.
