Book Synopsis Yellow Perch, Walleye, and Sauger: Aspects of Ecology, Management, and Culture by : John Clay Bruner
Download or read book Yellow Perch, Walleye, and Sauger: Aspects of Ecology, Management, and Culture written by John Clay Bruner and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-21 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walleye, one of the most sought-after species of freshwater sport fishes in North America, has demonstrated appreciable declines in their numbers from their original populations since the beginning of the 20th century. Similarly, Yellow Perch, once the most commonly caught sport fish and an important commercial species in North America, have also shown declines. Compiling up-to-date information on the biology and management of Walleye, Sauger, and Yellow Perch, including research on systematics, genetics, physiology, ecology, movement, population dynamics, culture, recent case histories, and management practices, will be of interest to managers, researchers, and students who deal with these important species, particularly in light of habitat alterations, population shifts, and other biotic and abiotic factors related to a changing climate.

Book excerpt: The percid fishes (or perch family) comprise many species including the perch, pikeperch, yellow perch, walleye and the darters. These species are of great ecological and economic importance, being important components of the freshwater ecosystem and recreational and commercial fisheries. Percid Fishes covers aspects such as systematics, morphology, biology, ecology, diseases and parasites and the economic importance of percid fisheries. Special emphasis is placed within the book on the complex relationship between this family of fishes and their environment and how they respond to perturbations, especially those induced by humans. The author, John Craig who has a great deal of experience working on these fishes in many of the countries in which they occur, has drawn together an extremely important book which provides a unique, comprehensive and indispensable review of this most significant group of fish.

Download or read book Analysis of Existing Information on Adult Fish Movements Through Dams on the Upper Mississippi River written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the mid-1970's, an assessment of the potential for expansion of the nation's hydroelectric generating capabilities was initiated by the passage of the Water Resources Development Act (PL 94-587). Economic feasibility studies for small-scale hydropower development were performed for sites on the Upper Mississippi River (UMR). The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has been asked to provide input into the final feasibility report and draft Environmental Impact Statements for hydropower development at Locks and Dams 5 and 8. This report as the following objective: to compile, review, and analyze existing information on movements of adult fish through dams on the UMR from St. Anthony Falls to Lock and Dam 14. Secondary objectives include (1) identification of information gaps about adult fish movements and UMR fisheries in general that would prevent an accurate assessment of the impacts of small-scale hydropower development on UMR fisheries; and (2) identification of impact assessment techniques, approaches, and means of obtaining the necessary data for an assessment of the impacts of small-scale hydropower development on ichthyoplankton and UMR fisheries.
