Book excerpt: "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."Martin Luther King Jr. One of the things that matter the most in every generation is leadership, which primarily is an influence. Successes and failures have always been traceable either directly or indirectly to the influence of leadership in every generation. As a leader, I strongly believe that one of the major reasons behind the under-development of our African continent in this 21st Century is the unwillingness of the Church to take its leading role in restoring the Kingdom to the society. Like the Biblical Israelites of the Moses Generation, who failed to enter their Promised Land, we have pitched our tents in the wilderness and refused to go any further but in circles. There is a land waiting for you to conquer and possess; a territory to take over for the Kingdom. Like Joshua, our generation is called of God to conquer new territories and expand the influence of the Kingdom to a higher horizon. You're a person of destiny. You're saved to save a nation; redeemed to redeem the earth to God; restored to restore the Kingdom to your society. Let's not stop at salvation only; let's bring salvation to our nation. We need to bring the Kingdom of God into every sphere of our society in order to overcome the darkness and restore the light. We are called to translate the realities of our kingdom life into tangible products reflecting the glory of our King and bettering the lives of others. This book is simply an expression of my deep scriptural convictions and experience. It's a clarion call to the sons of Issachar, who have an understanding of the times, to arise and take their place like a Joshua generation. I believe that God is changing the guards and the baton is being passed over, but are you ready to lead your generation into their Promised Land, or are you stuck with the Moses generation who are doomed to die in the wilderness though saved? I charge you to come out of the wilderness, take your place in leading your generation into their Promised Land, and I will be showing you how this can be achieved. In this book you'll discover: Facts about the Moses generation Understanding the Joshua generation Evil doctrines of Moses generation Embracing a Joshua generation leader The mindset of a Joshua generation The attitude of the Joshua generation Loyalty is first to God The wilderness experience Discovering your promised land In what condition will death meet you

Book excerpt: Central to God’s character is the quality of holiness. Yet, even so, most people are hard-pressed to define what God’s holiness precisely is. Many preachers today avoid the topic altogether because people today don’t quite know what to do with words like “awe” or “fear.” R. C. Sproul, in this classic work, puts the holiness of God in its proper and central place in the Christian life. He paints an awe-inspiring vision of God that encourages Christian to become holy just as God is holy. Once you encounter the holiness of God, your life will never be the same.

Watch God's people transition from wanderers to conquerors as told by The Passion Translation®. Begin with the book of Joshua, which reveals the secrets of conquest and details jaw-dropping victories and devastating defeats. Then study the rich portraits of the various men and women who distinguished themselves as champions of faith, challenging the status quo in Israel when they had neither a king nor a prophet to lead them. Conclude with the book of Ruth and its enchanting love story. See mercy triumph over judgment, famine lead to harvest, and despair transform into delight. This triad of Old Testament books reveals God's sovereignty and assures us that we have the courage to conquer and will overcome the impossible for his good purposes. Do not yield to fear nor be discouraged, for I am Yahweh your God, and I will be with you wherever you go! Joshua 1:9

Book excerpt: While recent decades have seen a plethora of studies exploring the complex processes that shaped biblical books traditionally designated as Prophets, much remains to be done in order to uncover the rich history of their interpretation throughout the ages. This collection of essays aims at filling this gap by exploring different aspects of the exegesis of the Former and Latter Prophets in contexts both ancient and modern, Jewish and Christian. From the inner-biblical interpretation of the Prophets to the Dead Sea Scrolls, Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, the New Testament, Patristic writings, and contemporary rhetoric, this volume sheds light on how key figures in those books were read and understood by both ancient and not so-ancient readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the book of Acts the apostles began to preach after Jesus’ ascension the gospel of the Kingdom. This is the same gospel Jesus preached and great miracles were written with this type of preaching. One could speculate and it is obvious we are not seeing the mighty works of Jesus or the apostles today because we have deviated from preaching the gospel of the Kingdom. Today, there are all types of preaching: the gospel of grace, the gospel of prosperity, the gospel of healing but no obvious power. Acts 17:6 says these men (the apostles) have turned this world upside down. Why, because they preached the gospel of the Kingdom. If we return to preaching and teaching the Kingdom message, we will turn this world right side up. The power will return, the anointing will return, the glory of God will return, and we will see mighty works of God happening in all nations. We will witness in this day the apostles and prophets’ band together, Jews and Gentiles band together, spiritual gifts in operation like never seen before. This is the day that the army of the Lord is seen marching forth shattering the spiritual walls of religion and apostasy. God is saying to those that have ears to hear, take another look into the spirit realm, take another look into the supernatural and great and mysterious things will be revealed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book seeks to examine the leadership of the Black church through a critical and theoretical lens utilizing historical and anthropological foci to better identify and understand some of the challenges within the paramount institution and its attrition to the Black American community at large and provide appropriate suggestions and generating frameworks for addressing the challenges. The church has always played a pivotal role in Black American culture's identity, development, and progression. Leadership and organizational challenges within the church pervasively matriculate to other Black spaces, historically Black organizations, and a broader societal context. Due to the church's historical and ethnographic context for Blacks in America, many of the challenges faced in the church go unrecognized, unspoken, thus unattended. This manuscript endeavors to identify the challenges, and flaws through research and data, to provide solutions through practical and theoretical implementations to some shortcomings for the betterment of the church and culture. The interconnectedness of culture and religion for Blacks in America established a gargantuan impact factor on the church and its leaders. This manuscript examines the pervading effects of the influence through leadership dispensation. It also explores the understanding of leadership through the lens of Black Christianity, deriving that the foundation of leadership in the Black community was primarily circumscribed by the influence of the church as conglomerate collectivism of almost five hundred years of the history and culture of Africans, African descendants, and members of the African diaspora in what is now America who contributed to the ideal of the Black church. The critical analysis provided is not one of condemnation but likened to a vital performance review through member experiences barred against applicable leadership and organizational development barometers.

Book excerpt: Demonstrates how race and power help to explain American religion in the twenty-first century When White people of faith act in a particular way, their motivations are almost always attributed to their religious orientation. Yet when religious people of color act in a particular way, their motivations are usually attributed to their racial positioning. Religion Is Raced makes the case that religion in America has generally been understood in ways that center White Christian experiences of religion, and argues that all religion must be acknowledged as a raced phenomenon. When we overlook the role race plays in religious belief and action, and how religion in turn spurs public and political action, we lose sight of a key way in which race influences religiously-based claims-making in the public sphere. With contributions exploring a variety of religious traditions, from Buddhism and Islam to Judaism and Protestantism, as well as pieces on atheists and humanists, Religion Is Raced brings discussions about the racialized nature of religion from the margins of scholarly and religious debate to the center. The volume offers a new model for thinking about religion that emphasizes how racial dynamics interact with religious identity, and how we can in turn better understand the roles religion—and Whiteness—play in politics and public life, especially in the United States. It includes clear recommendations for researchers, including pollsters, on how to better recognize moving forward that religion is a raced phenomenon. With contributions by Joseph O. Baker, Kelsy Burke, James Clark Davidson, Janine Giordano Drake, Ashley Garner, Edward Orozco Flores, Sikivu Hutchinson, Sarah Imhoff, Russell Jeung, John Jimenez, Jaime Kucinskas, Eric Mar, Gerardo Martí, Omar M. McRoberts, Besheer Mohamed, Dawne Moon, Jerry Z. Park, Z. Fareen Parvez, Theresa W. Tobin, and Rhys H. Williams.
