Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Im writing this book, You Are Worth It All, with high hopes of empowering and encouraging my sisters all over the world to become better individuals. I chose to use the word sister because thats exactly how I perceive each and every one of youas a sister. No matter what color you may be or what language you may speak, you are my sister. You will see the word sister a lot throughout the text of this book and the reason is so youll know that Im talking directly to you. Since its next to impossible for me to know and remember every female in the world, Im also using the word sister as an indication for your name. So any time you see the word sister, replace it with your name. That way youll know that Im talking directly to you.

Book excerpt: Mr. William Pratt was born on June 17, 1954, and his journey through life was bittersweet. He feels like these songs and poems are and will stand up to the test of times. Some will make you happy, and some will make you cry, but most you with truth, love, and harmony. Even though he's a man, when he wrote these songs and poems, he felt like a giant, and all his songs and poems are as vast as the universe, and he hopes these songs make the weak and unhappy souls strong. He tossed in some fantasies, which we all need to escape from reality sometimes and the reader's natural high. So enjoy his songs and poems; they're like his mother's jambalaya--a little bit of everything in a bowl and spicy to complete.

Book excerpt: Personal Narrative of Travels to the Equinoctial Regions of America, during the years 1799-1804 is a three-volume account of an expedition taken from Spain to South America by naturalists Alexander von Humboldt and Aimé Bonpland. The authors visited Venezuela, Cuba, Andes, Mexico and USA where they collected the material and made extensive notes. Their joint effort to record a memoir of this great expedition is quite interesting and valuable because it contain specific documentation of their scientific observations, but it also presents an intriguing and romantic work with many poetic descriptions of nature and the people who lived in the areas he visited.

Book Synopsis Travels in India by : Jean-Baptiste Tavernier

Book excerpt: Jean-Baptiste Tavernier (1605-89) was one of the most renowned travelers of 17th century Europe. The son of a French Protestant who had fled Antwerp to escape religious persecution, Tavernier was a jewel merchant who between 1632 and 1668 made six voyages to the East. The countries he visited (most more than once) included present-day Cyprus, Malta, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. In 1676 he published his two-volume Les six voyages de Jean Baptiste Tavernier (The six voyages of Jean Baptiste Tavernier). An abridged and very imperfect English translation of the book appeared in 1677. The first modern scholarly edition in English was published in 1889, with translation, notes, and a biographical sketch of Tavernier by Dr. Valentine Ball (1843-95), a British civil servant with the Indian Geological Service. Presented here is the second edition, which was published in 1925 and edited by William Crooke, based on Ball's original translations with corrections drawing on knowledge developed in the field of Indian studies after 1889. Among the most memorable chapters in the book are those that recount Tavernier's visits to the diamond mines of India and his inspection of the jewels of the Great Mogul. Tavernier was not a scholar or an educated linguist, and after his initial popularity in the 17th century his authority waned, as historians and others questioned the accuracy of his observations. In the 20th century, however, Tavernier's reputation rose, as such important historians as Lucien Febvre and Fernand Braudel used the detailed information he recorded about the prices and qualities of goods and about business and commercial practices in their pioneering studies of economic and social history. The book contains several appendices by Ball about famous diamonds (including the historic Koh-i-Noor Diamond now belonging to the British royal family), diamond mines in India and Borneo, ruby mines in Burma, and sapphire washings in Ceylon (Sri Lanka). A fold-out map shows Tavernier's voyages in India and the mines he visited.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, in some respects, is one of the most famous travelers who visited India in the 17th century. He made 6 trips to India between 1630 and the 1668. He was a jeweler by profession, and made a considerable fortune by trading in precious stones from Asia and selling them in Europe. Tavernier traveled extensively in Persia, Afghanistan and India. This 2 volume work is a compilation of his 6 voyages and makes a fascinating read. He gives glowing accounts of the 2 Mughal kings whose court he visited, namely Shajahan and Aurangzeb. This work is full of rich detail. He describes all that he saw and experienced. He gives descriptions of his journey, the people, their customs and manners, their religion, the rituals, the politics and political relations with neighboring countries and he also give copious notices of the jewels and diamond mines in the south of India. A map of his travels in India is given in the book. This book is a reprint of the 1925 edition. It is translated from the original French edition of 1676 with a biographical sketch of the author, notes, appendices etc. by V. Ball, London 1889 and 2nd edition is edited by Crooke (Translation of the original French edition of 1676).
