Book excerpt: Follow along as Glen Davis builds a single shot, lever action, rifle from scratch, using mostly recycled materials. This book includes a detailed build description of an original rifle, photographs of the actual build process, and scalable drawings. Written in the author's own voice are detailed discussion about the purpose and use of features included in this refile design, including trigger pull, safety mechanisms, the rotating block action, wood stock customization, metal bluing, and wood finish. The entire build uses no complicated tools, and could be reproduced in the average home shop. Glen Davis builds firearms as a hobby. He spends quite a bit of time repairing and restoring antique firearms. While he has made several parts from scratch to use in the repair of antique firearms, this is the first original design to come out of his shop. Aside from firearms, Glen has built canoes, kayaks, guitars, knives, and tools. He spends nearly all of his free time in his shop restoring, musical instruments, cars, motorcycles, and antique machine shop tools.

Book Synopsis Winchester Lever-Action Rifles by : Martin Pegler
Download or read book Winchester Lever-Action Rifles written by Martin Pegler and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winchester lever-action repeating rifles are an integral part of the folklore of the American West. Introduced after the American Civil War, the first Winchester, the M1866, would go on to see military service as far afield as Bulgaria, but it was in the hands of civilians that it would become known as 'The gun that won the west'. Offering a lethal combination of portability, ruggedness and ammunition interchangeability with pistol sidearms, the Winchesters and their innovative and elegant breech-loading system represented a revolutionary design. They were used by a staggering variety of military and civilian groups - gold-miners, trappers, hunters, farmers, lawmen, professional gunmen and Native Americans. It equipped a whole generation of settlers and as such left an imprint on American culture that continues to resonate today. This book explores the Winchesters' unique place in history, revealing the technical secrets of their success with a full array of colour artwork, period illustrations and close-up photographs.

He is credited with several technical books and articles relating to military firearms, ballistics, and auto loading weapons. His premier works are "Hatcher's Notebook" and "Book of the Garand." He was also a pioneer in the forensic identification of firearms and their ammunition. Hatcher retired from the United States Army as a Major General. Afterward, he served as Technical Editor of the National Rifle Association's "American Rifleman" magazine. Hatcher's "Book of the Garand" is the definitive chronicle of the rifle General George S. Patton called "the greatest battle implement ever devised." Hatcher follows the evolution of the M1 Garand from the first semiautomatic hunting rifles to the devastating U.S. infantry weapon of WWII.

Download or read book Gunfight written by Ryan Busse and published by Public Affairs. This book was released on 2023-04-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A former firearms executive pulls back the curtain on America's multibillion-dollar gun industry, exposing how it fostered extremism and racism, radicalizing the nation and bringing cultural division to a boiling point. As an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and conservationist-all things that the firearms industry was built on-Ryan Busse chased a childhood dream and built a successful career selling millions of firearms for one of America's most popular gun companies. But blinded by the promise of massive profits, the gun industry abandoned its self-imposed decency in favor of hardline conservatism and McCarthyesque internal policing, sowing irreparable division in our politics and society. That drove Busse to do something few other gun executives have done: he's ending his 30-year career in the industry to show us how and why we got here. Gunfight is an insider's call-out of a wild, secretive, and critically important industry. It shows us how America's gun industry shifted from prioritizing safety and ethics to one that is addicted to fear, conspiracy, intolerance, and secrecy. It recounts Busse's personal transformation and shows how authoritarianism spreads in the guise of freedom, how voicing one's conscience becomes an act of treason in a culture that demands sameness and loyalty. Gunfight offers a valuable perspective as the nation struggles to choose between armed violence or healing.

Book Synopsis African Rifles and Cartridges by : John Taylor

Book excerpt: 2014 Reprint of 1948 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. John Howard 'Pondoro' Taylor (1904 - 1969) was a big-game hunter of Irish descent. In Africa he experimented extensively using different types of rifles and calibers, which made him an expert in big game rifles. He is credited with developing the 'Taylor KO Factor' and wrote several now classic books. As a professional ivory hunter with some thirty years of continuous living in the African bush, John Taylor used and tested all the various calibers of British, American and German rifles, and with them killed many species of big game found on the continent of Africa. Taylor's discussion on the practical application of ballistics includes doubles, magazines, and single-shots; the practical value of steel-jacketed bullets versus those covered with cupronickel; the faults of copper-tubed bullets; the actual effects of softpoint bullets with varying degrees of lead exposure; the necessity of modern bullets that will really stand up to the requirements when fired into heavy animals; and many other valuable tips and explanations about cartridges and rifles. Remains a classic work.
