Book Synopsis More Curious Than Cautious by : Peter Fraser
Download or read book More Curious Than Cautious written by Peter Fraser and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Trekking Around Australia and Beyond" is a tale of a challenge that included a visit into the "Dead Heart" of the continent where there is little life to be seen. Come meet Aborigines still living their Old Stone Age ways. There was just enough sustainable life for the earliest form of human culture to eek out an existence hunting lizards, grubs, perhaps a snake or rabbit, a few birds and rarely a "roo." Watch my companions hunt kangaroos where cattle graze at two square miles per head. Pass through an area about a fifth the size of the USA with enough herbage for sheep and for small towns to sprout. It is not until the fringes of the coast that there is enough green to satisfy the needs of a population. This adventure tale brings the reader from the most primitive human culture to the exhilarating surfing life on the southeast coast. Peter Fraser was born and raised on Long Island, New York. The random courses selected at Cornell University: languages, arts, history, geology and sociology, qualified him for a B.A. in Anthropology. After earning a M. S. in Education at Hofstra College, he taught in three states where there was nearby skiing, and in Arizona for the ranch lifestyle where he coached cowboy polo. Vacations supplied the time for travel which he pursued avidly. After solo trips around Europe to broaden his background, he decided to hitch-hike the Pan American Highway, from Venezuela along the west coast of South America to Bolivia and back. At this level he met the people who lived there and shared their lifestyle. It was great adventure, but survival was never a certainty. Only incredible good luck brought him back alive. This book concerns his nine month visit to Australia and back to New York through south Asia and the Near East.

Download or read book Black Milk written by Elif Shafak and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-04-28 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An acclaimed Turkish novelist's personal account of balancing a writer's life with a mother's life. After the birth of her first child in 2006, Turkish writer Elif Shafek suffered from postpartum depression that triggered a profound personal crisis. Infused with guilt, anxiety, and bewilderment about whether she could ever be a good mother, Shafak stopped writing and lost her faith in words altogether. In this elegantly written memoir, she retraces her journey from free-spirited, nomadic artist to dedicated by emotionally wrought mother. Identifying a constantly bickering harem of women who live inside of her, each with her own characteristics-the cynical intellectual, the goal-oriented go-getter, the practical-rational, the spiritual, the maternal, and the lustful-she craves harmony, or at least a unifying identity. As she intersperses her own experience with the lives of prominent authors such as Sylvia Plath, Virginia Woolf, Alice Walker, Ayn Rand, and Zelda Fitzgerald, Shafak looks for a solution to the inherent conflict between artistic creation and responsible parenting. With searing emotional honesty and an incisive examination of cultural mores within patriarchal societies, Shafak has rendered an important work about literature, motherhood, and spiritual well-being.

Book Synopsis The Brad Austin Boxed Set by : Joe Weber
Download or read book The Brad Austin Boxed Set written by Joe Weber and published by Ignition Books®. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 847 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time, New York Times best-selling author Joe Weber's two Brad Austin novels are together in one volume. Rules of Engagement "Exciting and controversial. A powerful novel of the rules of war--and a man who broke them."--W.E.B. Griffin Marine pilot Brad Austin and his carrier-based F-4 Phantom group fly into the heart of enemy territory daily without fear, but the rules of engagement hinder them nearly as much as the North Vietnamese. Restricted from attacking the enemy's MiG bases, Austin and the other American pilots are vulnerable to attack without the ability to retaliate, a weakness that tragically leads to the death of Austin's wingman. Consumed by the need to avenge his comrade, Austin goes one-on-one with the enemy in a battle that ultimately proves in war there can be no rules. Joe Weber takes us high into the flack-filled skies above Hanoi and shows us the air war as only a veteran fighter pilot can. Targets of Opportunity "A first-rate air-combat adventure by a master of the genre."--Publishers Weekly The Vietnam War is at its height, and the US has acquired a Soviet-built MiG-17. Marine aviator Brad Austin has been recruited to test-pilot it. The MiG is an aerial hotrod, crude yet lethally effective. But it's not what Austin is flying, it's where'behind enemy lines, disguised as a Russian pilot. If he succeeds in penetrating the enemy air space, he will find easy prey. But if he fails, he will be disavowed. With edge-of-your-seat tension and gripping realism, Targets of Opportunity is thriller writing at its best! "Some writers get better with age: Weber is among them. This novel will have great appeal for technothriller and military-fiction buffs, especially for those who love aviation."--Library Journal

With the natural world exhausted and in tatters, Ben has dedicated himself to protecting this single fragment of the wild. One night, he hears voices in the valley—poachers, come to hunt his bear. Book Synopsis War Stories for My Grandchildren by : H F Jansen Estrup
Download or read book War Stories for My Grandchildren written by H F Jansen Estrup and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Storytelling at its best, this compelling memoir graphically portrays the scarred emotional landscape of young men who seek a place in the world by way of a military career. Exhausted shadows of the past are brought alive with uncommon eloquence as the author looks back on his youth brimming with innocence, idealism and patriotism. A page turner, the book explores the complex nature of a man whose brave, daring and sometimes foolhardy exploits led to the essential task; building a scaffold of choices and attitudes by rendering meaning from the intractable depths of experience. What in other hands might be a dreary tale of adolescent angst, betrayal and disillusion, takes on truly pyrotechnic energy, lifting his coming of age from the mundane to the profound.
