This book was released on 1967 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Monte Carlo calculation of the energy spectrum emitted by a collimated, Co-60 source is reported. The collimator assumed is very similar to one currently being used in experimental shielding studies at the University of Illinois. Radiation emerging from the collimator is classified into 13 equal-length energy intervals between 0.1 and 1.4 MeV, and into 3 direction intervals for angles relative to the collimator axis between 0 and 90 deg. Comparisons are made with experimental and theoretical work reported by others. (Author).
Book Synopsis Monte Carlo Calculation of Gamma-ray Penetration of Ribbed Slabs by : Edgar E. Morris
Download or read book Monte Carlo Calculation of Gamma-ray Penetration of Ribbed Slabs written by Edgar E. Morris and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data are given in the form of attenuation factors for the exposure due to gamma radiation transmitted by a ribbed slab. The ribbed slab is made of concrete and is similar to one which has been used in experimental studies conducted at the University of Illinois. The source radiation was assumed to be that of Co-60 with source spectrum degradation due to the self-shielding of the source. Four angles of incidence, 0 degrees, 45 degrees, 60 degrees, and 75 degrees, were considered. In addition, the effect of a beam of radiation incident with directions diverging 2.5 degrees on either side of 45 degrees was studied in a rather crude fashion. Attenuation factors for 1.25 McV gamma radiation incident normally on a simulated wood floor are included in an appendix. (Author).

Download or read book Monte Carlo Calculation of the Energy Loss Spectra for Gamma Rays in Sodium Iodide and Cesium Iodide written by W. F. Miller and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The energy loss spectra for gamma rays in sodium iodide and cesium iodide crystals were calculated by the Monte Carlo method. The calculations were carried out for point sources, broad and collimated parallel beams, and disc sources of monoenergetic gamma rays varying in energy from 0.142 to 14.0 Mev. The crystals considered were right circular cylinders, varying from small crystals of height and diameter of 0.5 inch to large crystals of height 12 inches and diameter 9 inches, and a sphere of 1-inch radius. Also calculated simultaneously with the energy loss spectra were the efficiencies and total absorption fractions.

Download or read book A Monte Carlo Calculation to Simulate Detector Response to Underwater Gamma Rays written by Susan W. Madigosky and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The response function of a scintillation detector surrounded by a monoenergetic gamma-ray source which is uniformly dispersed in an infinite volume of water has been calculated. The method of calculation is that of random sampling (Monte Carlo) and is programmed for the IBM 7090 computer. Rather than starting the sampling by taking gamma-ray sources at random throughout the volume of water the response is determined for a weighted set of secondary gamma-ray sources taken to be on the surface of the detector system. The spectrum of secondary energies chosen is taken to be the quilibrium flux distribution which is obtained in an infinite volume of water in which there is no detector. The detector response is determined by a superposition of the weighted secondary sources. Detector response has been obtaine for gamma-ray sources from Cr51, Cs137, K40, Na24, and Ce144. The calculated response for these sources agrees quite well with the measured response in shape but not in magnitude. Here, it is found that the artificial spectra have an amplitude which is approximately 1.6 times the measured spectra. This difference appears to be mainly due to two sources: the difference in geometry between the actual spectrometer and the 'spectrometer' used for the calculation and the approximation in which the distribution of secondary source neglects the presence of the detector. Book Synopsis Monte Carlo Studies of Gamma-ray and Neutron Transport in Infinite Homogeneous Media by : Theodore E. Fessler
Download or read book Monte Carlo Studies of Gamma-ray and Neutron Transport in Infinite Homogeneous Media written by Theodore E. Fessler and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two point-source, infinite-medium Monte Carlo codes were written for the IBM 704 computer. The codes simulate respectively gamma-ray and neutron transport from a monoenergetic source. A detailed description, including importance sampling methods, is given. Results showed good agreement with moments-method calculations for the same geometry. Calculations for 6-Mev gamma rays in tin provide data on the contribution of annihilation radiation to both the buildup factors and energy spectra. Calculations for 1-Mev gamma rays in water are also presented. The results of calculations for 6-Mev source neutrons in water show a peak in the energy spectrum which is found to be due to single scattering of source particles from oxygen. (Author).
