Book Synopsis Victorian Whitework Embroidered Monograms by : Susan Johnson
Download or read book Victorian Whitework Embroidered Monograms written by Susan Johnson and published by . This book was released on 2020-01-24 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Victorian embroidered monograms are lovely examples of creativity in home decoration. This collection from an 1890 series features elaborate illustrations of whitework embroidery that are sure to inspire modern needleworkers and craftsmen. These 48 pages are reproduced from an historic artifact, and as such show some signs of age and the limitations of 19th century printing technology. Monograms have long been an elegant way to personalize household items; many beautiful examples are worked on plain white fabric embellished with tone-on-tone raised, elaborate embroidery. Often a variety of stitchery techniques were used to create texture, such as padded satinstitches combined with lacemaking techniques including pulled or drawn thread work and needleweaving. A large 8" high single display style initial is given for each of the alphabet (except for the letters "I" and "Y", which were commonly left out of alphabets) plus several small two-letter monograms featuring each letter in a variety of design styles. Like most antique books, a high level of skill was assumed of the reader so there are no instructions to accompany the illustrations. The designs could be transferred onto fabric for embroidery, or adapted to needlepoint, machine embroidery or other techniques.
Book Synopsis Downsizing the Blended Home by : Marni Jameson
Download or read book Downsizing the Blended Home written by Marni Jameson and published by Union Square + ORM. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fresh decorating and decluttering advice for the modern family—a must-have book to help those who are merging their hearts, lives, and homes. When merging households, one plus one needs to equal . . . one. The path toward that fundamental fact, however, is not so easy. With the same warm, narrative tone that made Downsizing the Family Home such a success—and using her own story of marriage and merger in midlife as a backdrop—Marni Jameson guides you through the turf wars and transitions, so you understand what matters and what doesn’t, and can discover a style that suits you both. Along the way she interviews psychologists, designers, and couples who’ve made it through the process, passing along tips, tricks, and marriage-bolstering advice. The wise advice includes: If you want to transform a space from me to we, the fastest, cheapest way is with paint. Look around you for the five or so nonnegotiable items that ground you, items that tether you so you’re not adrift. Give those a place in your remodeled space and build on them. The old marital bed is a charged item, as are family photos of the former spouse or partner. A new bed is ideal, and new bedding is a must. Injecting a contemporary rug or piece of art, or a modern lamp or sculpture is a safe way to start moving toward modern in a room full of traditional furnishings. Buying furniture together is a great way to invest in your look and your future. Start with something big in your combined style.
