Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reviewing an extensive array of procedures in hot and cold forming, casting, heat treatment, machining, and surface engineering of steel and aluminum, this comprehensive reference explores a vast range of processes relating to metallurgical component design-enhancing the production and the properties of engineered components while reducing manufacturing costs. It surveys the role of computer simulation in alloy design and its impact on material structure and mechanical properties such as fatigue and wear. It also discusses alloy design for various materials, including steel, iron, aluminum, magnesium, titanium, super alloy compositions and copper.

This book was released on 1962 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion of containment materials is the most serious problem in liquid-metal systems. Most high-temperature engineering metals such as refractory metals, nickel-base and cobalt-base superalloys, and the austenitic and ferritic stainless steels are sufficiently resistant to liquid sodium and NaK to be useful up to about 1600 F. The most important factor in the corrosion of these materials under given conditions of temperature and flow rate is the oxygen content of the sodium. No material is truly corrosion resistant to lithium, although the refractory metals tantalum, columbium, and molybdenum do have some potential for high-temperature service in engineering applications. Zirconium and pure iron may also find some limited use in lithium, especially in lower temperature, twocomponent, static systems. The cobalt- and nickel-base alloys are unsuitable for high-temperature service in liquid lithium. The nitrogen content of the lithium is a particularly important factor. Potassium, rubidium, and cesium are somewhat less corrosive than the other alkali metals. The refractory metals and alloys are little affected by these liquid metals. The sliding and bearing properties of metals are generally affected adversely by the presence of pure molten metals. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molten salts are investigated by very diverse techniques and for differ ing purposes, and the results are reported in widely scattered journals. There is a need to keep investigators aware of progress in other specialties and to provide students with source and background material. Advances in Molten Salt Chemistry hopes to fill these needs by providing reviews of recent progress presented, insofar as is reasonable, with enough background material and commentary to be comprehensible to a nonspecialist. We prefer a discussion of underlying principles, to the extent that they are known, and we encourage authors to comment critically on the reliability of data, the utility of models, and the cogency of ideas and theories. We take a broad vie~ of the suitability of topics for inclusion in this series. Both fundamental and technological advances have a place here, as do studies on materials related to molten salts (like liquid silicates, very concentrated aqueous solutions, solutions of salts in liquid metals, and solid electrolytes). We intend this series to serve the needs of those who investigate or use molten salts. We welcome suggestions of topics and suitable authors, as well as comments on the strengths and shortcomings of what is published.
