Book Synopsis Molecular Structure and Biological Activity of Steroids by : Martin Bohl
Download or read book Molecular Structure and Biological Activity of Steroids written by Martin Bohl and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular Structure and Biological Activity of Steroids focuses on the indentification of steroid structural features that control particular biological effects. Steroid geometry plays a critical role in steroid activity; therefore, the results of X-ray crystallographic, NMR spectroscopic, and theoretical studies on structure-activity relationships form an integral part of the book. Well-established observations and proposed models are presented, summarizing knowledge of molecular features (e.g., steroid backbone structures, side-chain constitutions, substitution sites, configurations, hydrogen-bonding patterns) that can affect steroid action. The book also provides overviews about recent progress in various frontier fields of steroid research, including such areas as sex steroids, glucocorticoids, aromatase inhibitors, vitamin D metabolites, brassinosteroids, neuromuscular blocking agents, and cardiotonic steroids. Molecular Structure and Biological Activity of Steroids is a "must-have" resource for biochemists, pharmacologists, endocrinologists, biophysicists, and others actively involved in steroid research.

Book Synopsis Chemical Structure–Biological Activity Relationships: Quantitative Approaches by : F. Darvas
Download or read book Chemical Structure–Biological Activity Relationships: Quantitative Approaches written by F. Darvas and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical Structure-Biological Activity Relationships: Quantitative Approaches, Volume III, documents the proceedings of the 3rd Congress of the Hungarian Pharmacological Society held in Budapest, 1979. This volume focuses on the methodological aspects of QSAR. It also aims to inform the reader about the QSAR research conducted in East-European countries. This volume contains 38 presentations organized into six sections. Several lecturers deal with ""real prediction"" cases, i.e. activity estimation prior to the synthesis of the compounds. A particularly abundant section is devoted to the question of how the receptor models can be built up by means of QSAR calculations. Other sections present mathematical models and algorithms which could be applied to improve further the effectiveness of QSAR calculations. As another unique feature, a separate section treats the quantitative aspects of peptide structure-activity relationships—a field seemingly backward despite its evident importance. Hydrophobicity and its influence on biological potency along with the relationship of steric properties and biological activity are also discussed.

Book Synopsis Beyond the Molecular Frontier by : National Research Council
Download or read book Beyond the Molecular Frontier written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-03-19 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemistry and chemical engineering have changed significantly in the last decade. They have broadened their scopeâ€"into biology, nanotechnology, materials science, computation, and advanced methods of process systems engineering and controlâ€"so much that the programs in most chemistry and chemical engineering departments now barely resemble the classical notion of chemistry. Beyond the Molecular Frontier brings together research, discovery, and invention across the entire spectrum of the chemical sciencesâ€"from fundamental, molecular-level chemistry to large-scale chemical processing technology. This reflects the way the field has evolved, the synergy at universities between research and education in chemistry and chemical engineering, and the way chemists and chemical engineers work together in industry. The astonishing developments in science and engineering during the 20th century have made it possible to dream of new goals that might previously have been considered unthinkable. This book identifies the key opportunities and challenges for the chemical sciences, from basic research to societal needs and from terrorism defense to environmental protection, and it looks at the ways in which chemists and chemical engineers can work together to contribute to an improved future.

Book Synopsis Three Dimensional Molecular Structure-Biological Activity Correlation by Pattern Recognition by : D. S. Dierdorf
Download or read book Three Dimensional Molecular Structure-Biological Activity Correlation by Pattern Recognition written by D. S. Dierdorf and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A molecular structure transform has been developed that allows the three-dimensional structure of molecules to be related to their biological activity. The transforms utilize principal component analysis to transform the three dimensional cartesian coordinates and any atomic information such as electronegativity for each atom in a molecule. A predetermined and constant number of features is extracted from each molecule which can be analyzed by the methods of pattern recognition in order to relate molecular structure to any molecular function; in this case, carcinogenicity. The transform is graphically demonstrated using a simple triatomic molecule and then applied to two divergent classes of carcinogenic molecules; dimethylaminoazobenzenes and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Structure-activity results are presented along with an exciting potential for drug design. (Author).
Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Molecular Structural Biology by : Subrata Pal
Download or read book Fundamentals of Molecular Structural Biology written by Subrata Pal and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-08-13 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Molecular Structural Biology reviews the mathematical and physical foundations of molecular structural biology. Based on these fundamental concepts, it then describes molecular structure and explains basic genetic mechanisms. Given the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of research, early career researchers and those shifting into an adjacent field often require a "fundamentals" book to get them up-to-speed on the foundations of a particular field. This book fills that niche. Provides a current and easily digestible resource on molecular structural biology, discussing both foundations and the latest advances Addresses critical issues surrounding macromolecular structures, such as structure-based drug discovery, single-particle analysis, computational molecular biology/molecular dynamic simulation, cell signaling and immune response, macromolecular assemblies, and systems biology Presents discussions that ultimately lead the reader toward a more detailed understanding of the basis and origin of disease

Book Synopsis Biologically Active Molecules by : Urs P. Schlunegger
Download or read book Biologically Active Molecules written by Urs P. Schlunegger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past few years there has been a remarkable and rapid development of modern analytical methods, and the fields of nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectrometry have been no exception. In addition to being able to do "more and faster", new innovative techniques have also arisen to contribute to a growing understanding of the relationship between chemical structure and biological activity. In order to explore a few of the more interesting points of those developments and applications, a seminar "From Biological Activity to Structure" was organized from September 5-7, 1988, at Interlaken. The four invited speakers, Richard M. Caprioli, Howard R. Morris, Wolfgang Steglich and Dudley H. Williams were kind enough to attend and discuss many facets of their research, especially methodological and technical developments and their applications to specific problems. Participants were introduced to continuous flow FAB (fast atom bombardment) and its use, for example, in the real time monitoring of biochemical reactions in vitro and in vivo; the structural elucidation of secondary metabolites from fungi; the analysis of molecule-receptor interactions; the determination of posttranslational modifications of peptides; and the location of S-S bridges in determining the tertiary structure of proteins.
