Interkulturelle Aspekte rücken dabei im Wirtschaftsleben folglich zunehmend in den Mittelpunkt des Interesses und die Unternehmen sind stärker denn je von ihnen betroffen. Die mit der Internationalität vieler Unternehmen einhergehende, kulturelle Diversität der Mitarbeiter kann einerseits Quelle innovativer Ideen darstellen, jedoch andererseits ebenfalls zu Konflikten, Missverständnissen und Irritationen am Arbeitsplatz führen. Gerade den Führungskräften kommt dabei vermehrt eine entscheidende Rolle zu. Um diese genannten Probleme zu vermeiden und Mitarbeiter verschiedener Kulturen erfolgreich zu führen, sind interkulturell kompetente Führungskräfte unabdingbar. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, zu zeigen, in welcher Art und Weise interkulturelle Führungskompetenzen durch gezielte Personalentwicklungsmaßnahmen gefördert bzw. entwickelt werden können. Diese Zielsetzung lässt sich in zwei Teilziele untergliedern. Um zu untersuchen, wie diese Kompetenzen gefördert werden können, muss zunächst deren Notwendigkeit dargestellt werden. Dazu wird analysiert, inwiefern die Personalführung im interkulturellen Kontext kulturbedingt ist. Somit wird darauf abgezielt herauszufinden, ob es notwendig ist, die Kultur bei der Mitarbeiterführung zu berücksichtigen. Die Herausstellung der geeignetsten Maßnahmen, interkulturelle Führungskompetenzen zu entwickeln, stellt das zweite Teilziel dieser Untersuchung dar. Zwingend erforderlich um erforschen zu können, welche Möglichkeiten sich Führungskräften hier bieten, ist zu bestimmen, was interkulturelle Führungskompetenzen überhaupt ausmacht. Der Herausarbeitung der zweckmäßigsten Methoden geht also eine nähere Begriffsbestimmung voraus. Eine weitere Komponente, die es im Rahmen der Zielsetzung dieses zweiten Teilziels zu bestimmen gibt, beschäftigt sich mit den Grenzen der Entwicklung interkultureller Führungskompetenz.
