Vermutlich haben sie Bilder von körperlicher Gewalt, sexuellem Missbrauch oder Vernachlässigung durch unzureichende Beaufsichtigung im Kopf. Dass es neben all diesen Formen der Misshandlung auch zahlreiche Kinder und Jugendliche gibt die emotional vernachlässigt werden, scheint vielen nicht bewusst zu sein. Vernachlässigung wird oft mit Armut, Überforderung, unzureichender erzieherischer Kompetenz oder Krankheiten der Eltern in Verbindung gebracht (Deegener, 2005). In einer Umfrage des Deutschen Ärzteblatts gaben rund 49,36 Prozent der Befragten an in ihrer Kindheit und Jugend mindestens eine geringe emotionale Vernachlässigung erfahren zu haben (Häuser et al., 2011). Die häufig signifikanten Folgen der Vernachlässigung werden jedoch auch „von Fachleuten unterschätzt, so dass noch heute der schon vor vielen Jahren geprägte Ausdruck von der ‚Vernachlässigung der Vernachlässigung‘ gilt“ (Deegener, 2005). Ab wann spricht man überhaupt von emotionaler Vernachlässigung? Wo ist die Grenze zum persönlichen Erziehungsstil der Eltern und wie beeinflusst das die emotionale Intelligenz? In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird speziell nur auf eine Form der Vernachlässigung eingegangen, da diese weit weniger erforscht zu sein scheint und dennoch viele Auswirkungen für die Betroffenen haben kann. Da eine derartige Erfahrung in der Kindheit sehr unterschiedliche Kurz- und Langzeitfolgen haben kann, werden folglich nur die für die emotionale Entwicklung relevanten erläutert. Im Psychologie Seminar zur Entwicklung von Sprache und Emotionen, haben die Studierenden bereits einige Einblicke zum Thema emotionale Kompetenz bekommen. Auch über die Folgen mangelnder emotionaler Kompetenz und mögliche Interventionsmaßnahmen wurde gesprochen. Die folgende Ausarbeitung soll das Thema des Seminars mit dem der Kindesmisshandlung, insbesondere der emotionalen Vernachlässigung verknüpfen. Das Ziel dieser Hausarbeit ist es, die möglichen Folgen elterlicher emotionaler Vernachlässigung in der Kindheit auf die Entwicklung emotionaler Kompetenz zu erläutern. Zunächst werden in Kapitel 2 die elementaren Basisbedürfnisse eines Kindes beschrieben. Emotionale Vernachlässigung von Kindern erhält in den Medien und der Öffentlichkeit, aber auch in der professionellen Wahrnehmung, eine erkennbar geringere Aufmerksamkeit als die körperliche Misshandlung oder sexueller Missbrauch. Nach Schätzungen liegt die Zahl der vernachlässigten Kinder um ein Vielfaches höher als etwa die des sexuellen Missbrauchs. Es besteht aktuell aber noch ein relativ geringes Wissen, denn emotionale Vernachlässigung von Säuglingen und Kleinkindern ist bislang ein wenig beachtetes Phänomen. Gerade diese Tatsache hat das Interesse der Autorin geweckt, sich näher mit diesem Thema auseinanderzusetzen. Zunächst haben sich der Autorin im Laufe der Literatur- und Materialbeschaffung einige Fragen aufgetan, die in der Arbeit beantwortet werden. • Was benötigt ein Kind grundsätzlich um leben zu können? • Was braucht es, um eine gesunde geistige und seelische Entwicklung zu erfahren? • Welche Auswirkungen kann es für das Kind haben, wenn ihm die Befriedigung der Grundbedürfnisse durch seine Bezugsperson/en verwehrt bleibt? • Welche Folgen kann eine solche Vernachlässigung für das weitere Leben und die Entwicklung des Kindes haben? • Sind emotionale Misshandlung und emotionale Vernachlässigung immer aneinander gekoppelt? Zu Beginn der Arbeit wird geklärt, was grundsätzliche und notwendige Grundbedürfnisse von Kindern sind. Somit ist der Begriff der Kindesvernachlässigung besser nachzuvollziehen und damit eine einheitliche Grundlage für die weitere Arbeit geschaffen. Zu einem besseren Verständnis wird auf weitere Formen der Vernachlässigung eingegangen, da diese nur schwer voneinander zu trennen sind. Des Weiteren werden die möglichen vielfältigen Folgen der emotionalen Vernachlässigung skizziert. Die Auswirkungen solcher traumatischen Erfahrungen sind komplex, und es ist kaum möglich, sie auf allgemeingültige Folgeerscheinungen zu reduzieren, jedoch liegt das Hauptaugenmerk dieser Arbeit auf denen der sozialen Kompetenzen. Im Anschluss werden die unterschiedlichen Erziehungsstile klassifiziert, sowie deren Einfluss bzw. Auswirkungen auf die sozial-emotionale Entwicklung betrachtet. Um das breit gefächerte Teilgebiet einzugrenzen, wird im Rahmen der Arbeit nur auf die Erziehungstypologie von Baumrind eingegangen. Im letzten Abschnitt der Arbeit ziehe ich ein Resümee und gebe einen kurzen Ausblick auf mögliche Förderungsmaßnahmen zur sozial-emotionalen Kompetenzentwicklung.

Ein Kind kommt nicht mit einer Traumatisierung zur Welt, sondern nur mit dem Risiko und der Möglichkeit, eine zu entwickeln. Familien mit vielfältigen Problemen, sogenannten Risikofaktoren, in diversen Lebensbereichen benötigen Hilfeleistungen zur besseren Wahrnehmung ihrer Erziehungsverantwortung. Letztlich liegen bei Vernachlässigungen und emotionalen Misshandlungen unterschiedlich ausgeprägte Konstellationen persönlicher biografischer Defizite der Eltern, aufgrund eigener Deprivation oder Gewalterfahrung, familiäre, sozial vererbte oder anderweitig gestörte Bindungsfähigkeit, sowie ungünstige soziale Faktoren wie Armut, Alkoholismus, berufliche und persönliche Hoffnungslosigkeit und soziale Isolation vor. Der individuellen Unterstützung in Vernachlässigungsfamilien kommt auf diese Weise eine große Bedeutung zu. Book excerpt: Anthropologists have written a great deal about the coastal adaptations and seafaring traditions of Pacific Islanders, but have had much less to say about the significance of rivers for Pacific island culture, livelihood and identity. The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people. Several authors take a political ecology approach to their topic, but the emphasis here is less on hydro-politics than on the cultural meaning of rivers to the communities we describe. How has the cultural significance of rivers shifted as a result of colonisation, development and nation-building? How do people whose identities are fundamentally rooted in their relationship to a particular river renegotiate that relationship when the river is dammed to generate hydro-power or polluted by mining activities? How do blockages in the flow of rivers and underground springs interrupt the intergenerational transmission of local ecological knowledge and hence the ability of local communities to construct collective identities rooted in a sense of place?
