Book Synopsis Mathematical Modeling of Disperse Two-Phase Flows by : Christophe Morel
Download or read book Mathematical Modeling of Disperse Two-Phase Flows written by Christophe Morel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-17 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops the theoretical foundations of disperse two-phase flows, which are characterized by the existence of bubbles, droplets or solid particles finely dispersed in a carrier fluid, which can be a liquid or a gas. Chapters clarify many difficult subjects, including modeling of the interfacial area concentration. Basic knowledge of the subjects treated in this book is essential to practitioners of Computational Fluid Dynamics for two-phase flows in a variety of industrial and environmental settings. The author provides a complete derivation of the basic equations, followed by more advanced subjects like turbulence equations for the two phases (continuous and disperse) and multi-size particulate flow modeling. As well as theoretical material, readers will discover chapters concerned with closure relations and numerical issues. Many physical models are presented, covering key subjects including heat and mass transfers between phases, interfacial forces and fluid particles coalescence and breakup, amongst others. This book is highly suitable for students in the subject area, but may also be a useful reference text for more advanced scientists and engineers.
Book Synopsis Simulation of Flow in Porous Media by : Peter Bastian
Download or read book Simulation of Flow in Porous Media written by Peter Bastian and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-07-31 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Subsurface flow problems are inherently multiscale in space due to the large variability of material properties and in time due to the coupling of many different physical processes, such as advection, diffusion, reaction and phase exchange. Subsurface flow models still need considerable development. For example, nonequilibrium effects, entrapped air, anomalous dispersion and hysteresis effects can still not be adequately described. Moreover, parameters of the models are diffcult to access and often uncertain. Computational issues in subsurface flows include the treatment of strong heterogeneities and anisotropies in the models, the effcient solution of transport-reaction problems with many species, treatment of multiphase-multicomponent flows and the coupling of subsurface flow models to surface flow models given by shallow water or Stokes equations. With respect to energy and the environment, in particular the modelling and simulation of radioactive waste management and sequestration of CO2 underground have gained high interest in the community in recent years. Both applications provide unique challenges ranging from modelling of clay materials to treating very large scale models with high-performance computing. This book brings together key numerical mathematicians whose interest is in the analysis and computation of multiscale subsurface flow and practitioners from engineering and industry whose interest is in the applications of these core problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a snapshot of the state-of-art in the field of turbulence modeling, with an emphasis on numerical methods. Topics include direct numerical simulations, large eddy simulations, compressible turbulence, coherent structures, two-phase flow simulation and many more. It includes both theoretical contributions and experimental works, as well as chapters derived from keynote lectures, presented at the fifth Turbulence and Interactions Conference (TI 2018), which was held on June 25-29 in Martinique, France. This multifaceted collection, which reflects the conference ́s emphasis on the interplay of theory, experiments and computing in the process of understanding and predicting the physics of complex flows and solving related engineering problems, offers a timely guide for students, researchers and professionals in the field of applied computational fluid dynamics, turbulence modeling and related areas.

Book Synopsis Numerical Methods for Hyperbolic and Kinetic Problems by : Stéphane Cordier
Download or read book Numerical Methods for Hyperbolic and Kinetic Problems written by Stéphane Cordier and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2005 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hyperbolic and kinetic equations arise in a large variety of industrial problems. For this reason, the Summer Mathematical Research Center on Scientific Computing and its Applications (CEMRACS), held at the Center of International Research in Mathematics (CIRM) in Luminy, was devoted to this topic. During a six-week period, junior and senior researchers worked full time on several projects proposed by industry and academia. Most of this work was completed later on, and the present book reflects these results. The articles address modelling issues as well as the development and comparisons of numerical methods in different situations. The applications include multi-phase flows, plasma physics, quantum particle dynamics, radiative transfer, sprays, and aeroacoustics. The text is aimed at researchers and engineers interested in applications arising from modelling and numerical simulation of hyperbolic and kinetic problems.

Book Synopsis Statistical Hydrodynamic Models for Developed Mixing Instability Flows by : Antoine Llor
Download or read book Statistical Hydrodynamic Models for Developed Mixing Instability Flows written by Antoine Llor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-23 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part textbook, part exploratory work, this book aims to raise the awareness of students, physicists, and engineers in turbulence on the modeling of gravitationally induced turbulent mixing flows as produced, for instance, by Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities. The discussion is centered on the differences between single-fluid and two-fluid approaches, and it is illustrated with a 0D analysis of two specific elementary models in common use. Important deviations are shown to appear on many features, among others the prominence of directed energy, the simultaneous restitution of test cases, the responses to variable acceleration and shocks, and the behavior of various length scales.

Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade H. Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 36 (thesis year 1991) a total of 11,024 thesis titles from 23 Canadian and 161 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 36 reports theses submitted in 1991, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
