This book was released on 1999 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LA GEOMETRIE STOCHASTIQUE S'EST AVEREE ETRE UN OUTIL GENERIQUE POUR LA MODELISATION DE RESEAUX DE TELECOMMUNICATIONS.

By means of point processes, the positions of wireless infrastructure and users are represented with the aim of computing metrics of interest like capacity, routing delay, broadcast time, etc. This has been done successfully for technologies such as 3G/LTE/Wi-Fi yet, with the arrival of 5G NR, the necessity for rethinking the models for the communication scenario has become paramount. In this thesis we present a novel model for the locations of devices in urban communications networks. The model combines stochastic geometry with fractal geometry and it is called ``hyperfractal". The model exists in two options: the option for modeling the densities of cars on streets and the option for modeling the densities and repartition of auxiliary communication infrastructure. We present in detail the proposed model and its basic properties. In order to complete the description of the model and advocate for its ease of use, we provide a method for computing the fractal dimension of cities. The usefulness of the model is showcased throughout this thesis by several wireless networks applications. One application evaluates the achievable trade-offs between delay and energy consumption for a V2X network in urban environment modeled with hyperfractals. A second application consists into studying the broadcast in a V2V delay-tolerant network. Achievable limits are presented together with a phenomenon specific to hyperfractals: the teleportation phenomenon, which allows an acceleration of the broadcast.

Book excerpt: This book summarizes current knowledge regarding the theory of estimation for semiparametric models with missing data, in an organized and comprehensive manner. It starts with the study of semiparametric methods when there are no missing data. The description of the theory of estimation for semiparametric models is both rigorous and intuitive, relying on geometric ideas to reinforce the intuition and understanding of the theory. These methods are then applied to problems with missing, censored, and coarsened data with the goal of deriving estimators that are as robust and efficient as possible.

Book excerpt: This book addresses the stochastic modeling of telecommunication networks, introducing the main mathematical tools for that purpose, such as Markov processes, real and spatial point processes and stochastic recursions, and presenting a wide list of results on stability, performances and comparison of systems. The authors propose a comprehensive mathematical construction of the foundations of stochastic network theory: Markov chains, continuous time Markov chains are extensively studied using an original martingale-based approach. A complete presentation of stochastic recursions from an ergodic theoretical perspective is also provided, as well as spatial point processes. Using these basic tools, stability criteria, performance measures and comparison principles are obtained for a wide class of models, from the canonical M/M/1 and G/G/1 queues to more sophisticated systems, including the current “hot topics” of spatial radio networking, OFDMA and real-time networks. Contents 1. Introduction. Part 1: Discrete-time Modeling 2. Stochastic Recursive Sequences. 3. Markov Chains. 4. Stationary Queues. 5. The M/GI/1 Queue. Part 2: Continuous-time Modeling 6. Poisson Process. 7. Markov Process. 8. Systems with Delay. 9. Loss Systems. Part 3: Spatial Modeling 10. Spatial Point Processes.

Book excerpt: This book explores Probabilistic Cellular Automata (PCA) from the perspectives of statistical mechanics, probability theory, computational biology and computer science. PCA are extensions of the well-known Cellular Automata models of complex systems, characterized by random updating rules. Thanks to their probabilistic component, PCA offer flexible computing tools for complex numerical constructions, and realistic simulation tools for phenomena driven by interactions among a large number of neighboring structures. PCA are currently being used in various fields, ranging from pure probability to the social sciences and including a wealth of scientific and technological applications. This situation has produced a highly diversified pool of theoreticians, developers and practitioners whose interaction is highly desirable but can be hampered by differences in jargon and focus. This book – just as the workshop on which it is based – is an attempt to overcome these difference and foster interest among newcomers and interaction between practitioners from different fields. It is not intended as a treatise, but rather as a gentle introduction to the role and relevance of PCA technology, illustrated with a number of applications in probability, statistical mechanics, computer science, the natural sciences and dynamical systems. As such, it will be of interest to students and non-specialists looking to enter the field and to explore its challenges and open issues.

Book excerpt: This book is a collection of essays which examine how the properties of aggregate variables are influenced by the actions and interactions of heterogenous individuals in different economic contexts. The common denominator of the essays is a critique of the representative agent hypothesis. If this hypothesis were correct, the behaviour of the aggregate variable would simply be the reproduction of individual optimising behaviour. In the methodology of the hard sciences, one of the achievements of the quantum revolution has been the rebuttal of the notion that aggregate behaviour can be explained on the basis of the behaviour of a single unit: the elementary particle does not even exist as a single entity but as a network, a system of interacting units. In this book, new tracks in economics which parallel the developments in physics mentioned above are explored. The essays, in fact are contributions to the analysis of the economy as a complex evolving system of interacting agents.
