This book was released on 1971 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report investigates the attitude performance of an earth orbiting gravity-gradient spacecraft. First the transient response is determined for a system which has damping about one to three orthogonal axes and is in a circular orbit. The characteristic equation is utilized to find optimal values of the spacecraft's adjustable parameters. The transient response is also studied for the separate conditions of eccentric orbit, addition of a constant speed flywheel, and addition of torques due to atmospheric drag. Finally, improvement of the steady state pointing accuracy is considered. (Author).

Download or read book Optimization of Satellite Gravitational Stabilization Systems written by V. A. Sarychev and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study is made of the dynamics of satellite gravitational stabilization systems with gyrodamping and two types of purely passive dampers. The greatest attention is devoted to examination of motion in the orbital plane. The parameters which yield maximum stability and those ensuring minimum amplitude of the eccentricity oscillations of a satellite for a specified degree of stability are determined. The three-dimensional motion is studied for the satellite-stabilizer system and the problem of increasing the speed of response and the accuracy of the system by introducing a damper in a special way is examined. Book Synopsis Gravity-Gradient Stabilization Studies with the Dodge Satellite by : Robert E. Fischell
Download or read book Gravity-Gradient Stabilization Studies with the Dodge Satellite written by Robert E. Fischell and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The DODGE satellite was launched on 1 July 1967 into a near-synchronous orbit to demonstrate gravity-gradient stabilization at that high altitude and to experiment with various design parameters and damping techniques. This satellite was the first to be three-axis stabilized at high altitude using gravity-gradient techniques. It continues to function satisfactorily to the present date. Stabilization in pitch and roll to better than plus or minus 10 degrees has been obtained. The yaw stabilization of plus or minus 45 degrees has been fairly consistent; with the assistance of a small angular momentum flywheel, yaw accuracy of plus or minus 20 degrees was achieved. Magnetic damping of the sample-and-hold type and simulated hysteresis were both successful in damping librations. Efforts with the torsion-wire-suspended damper boom scheme were not successful, probably because of a mechanical bias in the device. A television camera system permitted observation of the boom bending under the influence of solar heating. Mechanical hysteresis in the boom bending was observed. (Author).
Book Synopsis A System for Passive Gravity-gradient Stabiliza Tion of Earth Satellites by : Robert E. Fischell
Download or read book A System for Passive Gravity-gradient Stabiliza Tion of Earth Satellites written by Robert E. Fischell and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The satellite 1963 22A was successfully captured into a condition of passive, gravity-gradient stabilization. All elements of the stabilization system, including magnetic dispin, magnetic orientation devices, the extendible boom, the damping spring, and the attitude detection system performed satisfactorily. An unexpected high frequency oscillation of the boom and satellite system was observed which was most probably a dynamic effect resulting from thermal bending. This has caused the satellite to stabilize with a maximum deviation off the vertical of approximately 10 degrees. The objective of the gravity-gradient stabilization for the 22A satellite was to have the antennas directed downward within 20 degrees of the local vertical at all times. This objective has been successfully accomplished by the satellite's passive gravity-gradient attitude stabilization system. (Author).
Book Synopsis Spacecraft Attitude Determination and Control by : J.R. Wertz
Download or read book Spacecraft Attitude Determination and Control written by J.R. Wertz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 877 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roger D. Werking Head, Attitude Determination and Control Section National Aeronautics and Space Administration/ Goddard Space Flight Center Extensiye work has been done for many years in the areas of attitude determination, attitude prediction, and attitude control. During this time, it has been difficult to obtain reference material that provided a comprehensive overview of attitude support activities. This lack of reference material has made it difficult for those not intimately involved in attitude functions to become acquainted with the ideas and activities which are essential to understanding the various aspects of spacecraft attitude support. As a result, I felt the need for a document which could be used by a variety of persons to obtain an understanding of the work which has been done in support of spacecraft attitude objectives. It is believed that this book, prepared by the Computer Sciences Corporation under the able direction of Dr. James Wertz, provides this type of reference. This book can serve as a reference for individuals involved in mission planning, attitude determination, and attitude dynamics; an introductory textbook for stu dents and professionals starting in this field; an information source for experimen ters or others involved in spacecraft-related work who need information on spacecraft orientation and how it is determined, but who have neither the time nor the resources to pursue the varied literature on this subject; and a tool for encouraging those who could expand this discipline to do so, because much remains to be done to satisfy future needs.
