Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a guide both for beginners as well as improvers to model aircraft precision aerobatics, or F3A, competition focused on the UK. However, it is just as relevant anywhere else in the world as the issue of how to control an aerobatic model aircraft is not limited to a single geography! If you are not interested in entering competitions, this book will bring you some of the knowledge and techniques that you would only pick up by attending them. If you are sufficiently disciplined in your flying, there is no reason why you should not reach a good aerobatic standard after following the advice and guidance contained in this book.In short, this is the book I would like to have had when I took up aerobatics and first entered competitions. If like me, you have wanted to take up precision aerobatics but couldn't find any resources to help you, this is the book for you. The book covers the basics of starting aerobatic flying, from when you have just gone solo, to helping you to get ready to take up the challenge of flying in aerobatic competitions. The book contains advice on how to set up your aircraft covering for example: centre of gravity position; engine/motor thrust lines; and control throws. It then takes you through the basics of aerobatic manoeuvres with both diagrams and words. Once over this initial phase, you will get much more detail about set up and trimming as well as how to fly large smooth manoeuvres ultimately taking account of the impact of the wind on the flight. The book contains a chapter on mini training schedules that allow you to build up your skills before describing how to fly the entry level aerobatic competition schedule used in Great Britain. Finally, I have included references to how you can access the resources to help you to progress from a practical flying viewpoint.Peter Jenkins has been flying model aircraft since he was a teenager but only entered aerobatic competitions just over 10 years ago. He has organised and run a number of introductory courses to coach newcomers to start and others to improve their aerobatics. He continues to organise aerobatic competitions for the GB National League and to act as Contest Director. He is a qualified instructor and examiner for the UK's largest model flying association, the BMFA of which he was a Director for 6 years. He has also held a private pilots' licence and flew and instructed on full size gliders for many years. Peter currently flies the FAI(P) schedule in domestic competitions in GB.

Book excerpt: The Red Knight is the product of 25 years of meticulous research. It is, arguably, the most comprehensive account ever written about the Canadian Air Force’s legendary solo jet-aerobatics performer. An important part of Canadian aviation history, the Red Knight is third in longevity and total number of performances among RCAF display teams. In recognition of the program’s importance, Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame honoured the Red Knight with its Belt of Orion Award for Excellence in 2020 and the Royal Canadian Mint issued a commemorative coin in 2022. The Red Knight chronicles the history of the program, from its origins in 1957 to its cancellation in 1970. Everyone who has enjoyed watching the precision, grace and beauty of aerobatic flight will enjoy this insight into the “behind the scenes” aspect of aerial displays. A fine addition to any aviation reference library, The Red Knight will be of particular interest to anyone who remembers the program or saw a performance of this uniquely Canadian display. Printed in colour, The Red Knight - Second Edition is illustrated with many rare photographs never published before. The book is further enhanced by specially commissioned works of art from noted Canadian Aviation Artist, Don Connolly. Details of the various Red Knight paint schemes are provided through aircraft profiles, also specifically created for this publication. Together, this unique pictorial collection vividly portrays the legacy of the Red Knight. https://www.facebook.com/rcafredknight www.johncharlescorrigan.com "It's hard to imagine a more comprehensive look at the Red Knight program--and at aerobatics in general." — Kirkus Reviews

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Only the best officers are given command of U.S. Navy ships, and only the elite of these are selected for aircraft carriers. The USS America was the third of four Kitty Hawk-class super-carriers. Commissioned in 1965, decommissioned in 1996, she served three times in Vietnam, and once each in Libya, the Persian Gulf and Bosnia. This book profiles the 23 men who commanded the America and her crew of 5,000 during 31 years. Most of them were combat veterans--World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Mayaguez Rescue Operations, Lebanon, Haiti, Libya, Bosnia, and Desert Storm. Four were Naval Academy graduates; seven were test pilots; one became Inspector General of the Navy; one wore both Navy wings and submariner dolphins; and one was a prisoner of war in Vietnam for nearly six years. Two retired as admirals--one was Chief of Naval Operations--five as vice admirals, and 11 as rear admirals. Each profile gives a career account based on official biographies, published memoirs, and interviews with the commanders or their families.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Red Knight holds a special place in Canadian history. The RCAF’s solo aerobatic display thrilled airshow audiences throughout North America from 1958–1969. With over 600 performances, the Red Knight ranks third in RCAF history to today’s Snowbirds and CF-18 Hornet Demo. In recognition of the program’s importance, Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame honoured the Red Knight with its Belt of Orion Award for Excellence in 2020 and the Royal Canadian Mint issued a commemorative coin in 2022. Aviation historian John Charles Corrigan spent 25 years researching and chronicling the program’s history in his book, The Red Knight. Budget cuts and a fatal accident resulted in the program’s cancellation in 1970. John’s latest book, The Tutor Knights takes the reader on an insider’s journey through the final two seasons of the program. With meticulous attention to detail, he describes a program in flux and subject to extraordinary stresses, which presaged an incredible series of tragedies. With numerous interviews, media reports, illustrations and never before seen photos and documentation, The Tutor Knights is written with aviation enthusiasts in mind. It will be of interest to those who marvel at the grace and precision of aerobatic flying from a uniquely Canadian perspective. https://www.facebook.com/rcafredknight
