This comprehensive book is a valuable resource for the community of researchers interested in homological algebra in a broad sense, and those curious to learn the latest developments in the area. It appeals to established researchers as well as PhD and postdoctoral students who want to learn more about the latest advances in these highly active fields of research.
Book Synopsis Algebra and Applications 2 by : Abdenacer Makhlouf
Download or read book Algebra and Applications 2 written by Abdenacer Makhlouf and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-12-29 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is part of Algebra and Geometry, a subject within the SCIENCES collection published by ISTE and Wiley, and the second of three volumes specifically focusing on algebra and its applications. Algebra and Applications 2 centers on the increasing role played by combinatorial algebra and Hopf algebras, including an overview of the basic theories on non-associative algebras, operads and (combinatorial) Hopf algebras. The chapters are written by recognized experts in the field, providing insight into new trends, as well as a comprehensive introduction to the theory. The book incorporates self-contained surveys with the main results, applications and perspectives. The chapters in this volume cover a wide variety of algebraic structures and their related topics. Alongside the focal topic of combinatorial algebra and Hopf algebras, non-associative algebraic structures in iterated integrals, chronological calculus, differential equations, numerical methods, control theory, non-commutative symmetric functions, Lie series, descent algebras, Butcher groups, chronological algebras, Magnus expansions and Rota–Baxter algebras are explored. Algebra and Applications 2 is of great interest to graduate students and researchers. Each chapter combines some of the features of both a graduate level textbook and of research level surveys.

Book Synopsis Constructions of Lie Algebras and their Modules by : George B. Seligman
Download or read book Constructions of Lie Algebras and their Modules written by George B. Seligman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with central simple Lie algebras over arbitrary fields of characteristic zero. It aims to give constructions of the algebras and their finite-dimensional modules in terms that are rational with respect to the given ground field. All isotropic algebras with non-reduced relative root systems are treated, along with classical anisotropic algebras. The latter are treated by what seems to be a novel device, namely by studying certain modules for isotropic classical algebras in which they are embedded. In this development, symmetric powers of central simple associative algebras, along with generalized even Clifford algebras of involutorial algebras, play central roles. Considerable attention is given to exceptional algebras. The pace is that of a rather expansive research monograph. The reader who has at hand a standard introductory text on Lie algebras, such as Jacobson or Humphreys, should be in a position to understand the results. More technical matters arise in some of the detailed arguments. The book is intended for researchers and students of algebraic Lie theory, as well as for other researchers who are seeking explicit realizations of algebras or modules. It will probably be more useful as a resource to be dipped into, than as a text to be worked straight through.

Book Synopsis Convex Functions, Monotone Operators and Differentiability by : Robert R. Phelps
Download or read book Convex Functions, Monotone Operators and Differentiability written by Robert R. Phelps and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes start with an introduction to the differentiability of convex functions on Banach spaces, leading to the study of Asplund spaces and their intriguing relationship to monotone operators (and more general set-values maps) and Banach spaces with the Radon-Nikodym property. While much of this is classical, some of it is presented using streamlined proofs which were not available until recently. Considerable attention is paid to contemporary results on variational principles and perturbed optimization in Banach spaces, exhibiting their close connections with Asplund spaces. An introductory course in functional analysis is adequate background for reading these notes which can serve as the basis for a seminar of a one-term graduate course. There are numerous excercises, many of which form an integral part of the exposition.

Book Synopsis Topics in Hyperplane Arrangements by : Marcelo Aguiar
Download or read book Topics in Hyperplane Arrangements written by Marcelo Aguiar and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph studies the interplay between various algebraic, geometric and combinatorial aspects of real hyperplane arrangements. It provides a careful, organized and unified treatment of several recent developments in the field, and brings forth many new ideas and results. It has two parts, each divided into eight chapters, and five appendices with background material. Part I gives a detailed discussion on faces, flats, chambers, cones, gallery intervals, lunes and other geometric notions associated with arrangements. The Tits monoid plays a central role. Another important object is the category of lunes which generalizes the classical associative operad. Also discussed are the descent and lune identities, distance functions on chambers, and the combinatorics of the braid arrangement and related examples. Part II studies the structure and representation theory of the Tits algebra of an arrangement. It gives a detailed analysis of idempotents and Peirce decompositions, and connects them to the classical theory of Eulerian idempotents. It introduces the space of Lie elements of an arrangement which generalizes the classical Lie operad. This space is the last nonzero power of the radical of the Tits algebra. It is also the socle of the left ideal of chambers and of the right ideal of Zie elements. Zie elements generalize the classical Lie idempotents. They include Dynkin elements associated to generic half-spaces which generalize the classical Dynkin idempotent. Another important object is the lune-incidence algebra which marks the beginning of noncommutative Möbius theory. These ideas are also brought upon the study of the Solomon descent algebra. The monograph is written with clarity and in sufficient detail to make it accessible to graduate students. It can also serve as a useful reference to experts.
Book Synopsis Computation and Combinatorics in Dynamics, Stochastics and Control by : Elena Celledoni
Download or read book Computation and Combinatorics in Dynamics, Stochastics and Control written by Elena Celledoni and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-13 with total page 734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Abel Symposia volume at hand contains a collection of high-quality articles written by the world’s leading experts, and addressing all mathematicians interested in advances in deterministic and stochastic dynamical systems, numerical analysis, and control theory. In recent years we have witnessed a remarkable convergence between individual mathematical disciplines that approach deterministic and stochastic dynamical systems from mathematical analysis, computational mathematics and control theoretical perspectives. Breakthrough developments in these fields now provide a common mathematical framework for attacking many different problems related to differential geometry, analysis and algorithms for stochastic and deterministic dynamics. In the Abel Symposium 2016, which took place from August 16-19 in Rosendal near Bergen, leading researchers in the fields of deterministic and stochastic differential equations, control theory, numerical analysis, algebra and random processes presented and discussed the current state of the art in these diverse fields. The current Abel Symposia volume may serve as a point of departure for exploring these related but diverse fields of research, as well as an indicator of important current and future developments in modern mathematics.
Book Synopsis Combinatorial Species and Tree-like Structures by : François Bergeron
Download or read book Combinatorial Species and Tree-like Structures written by François Bergeron and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The combinatorial theory of species, introduced by Joyal in 1980, provides a unified understanding of the use of generating functions for both labelled and unlabelled structures and as a tool for the specification and analysis of these structures. Of particular importance is their capacity to transform recursive definitions of tree-like structures into functional or differential equations, and vice versa. The goal of this book is to present the basic elements of the theory and to give a unified account of its developments and applications. It offers a modern introduction to the use of various generating functions, with applications to graphical enumeration, Polya theory and analysis of data structures in computer science, and to other areas such as special functions, functional equations, asymptotic analysis and differential equations. This book will be a valuable reference to graduate students and researchers in combinatorics, analysis, and theoretical computer science.
