Download or read book Teaching English Learners in Inclusive Classrooms written by Elva Duran and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2020-08-11 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This newly revised text, Teaching English Learners in Inclusive Classrooms, updates and expands upon issues of great concern to those working with students who are English learners as well as having special learning challenges. Given the unacceptable school drop-out rates of these students, this book provides practical tools and strategies for educators to approach the unique learning needs of these students. It draws upon the most current laws and research in the interconnected fields of bilingual and multicultural education, language and literacy, and special needs. Additionally, Dr. Durán draws upon her extensive experiences via classroom teaching, university-level instruction, and textbook writing in these fields to present a highly useful compendium of ideas. The range of chapters exemplifies the width and breadth of this material. A sampling of these chapters include topics such as functional language, teaching students with more extensive needs, working with cross-cultural and linguistic diverse students in the U.S. and Central America, helping students with autism and includes information in the area of transition for mild/moderate and students with more extensive needs. There is also information as before on literacy and a chapter in the content subjects as it relates to social studies as well as a chapter on families of cross-cultural students. Many of the chapters look to use of direct instruction approaches that have proven to be successful strategies in addressing these educational areas. Teachers and teacher trainers will find this clear, well-written text to be an invaluable resource in addressing the needs of myriad and unique students.

Download or read book Invisible Digital written by Aylish Wood and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2024-01-11 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Invisible Digital helps us makes sense of something we cannot see by presenting an innovative approach to digital images and digital culture. At its heart is a novel method for exploring software used in the creation of moving images as markers of converging cultural, organizational and technological influences. The three main case studies of Invisible Digital are the animated feature Moana (2016) and the computer games No Man's Sky (2016) and Everything (2017). All three were created using procedural techniques: simulation software for Moana, and procedural content generation for No Man's Sky and Everything. Production culture disclosures associated with procedural techniques often emphasize the influences of automated systems and their algorithms, making them ideal for a study that interrogates digital processes. The approach of Invisible Digital is informed by relational theories and the concept of entanglement based on materialist perspectives, combined with insights from work that more explicitly interrogates algorithms and algorithmic culture. Aylish Wood employs the notion of assemblages to introduce the concept of material-cultural narratives. Using this conceptual framework, she draws out material-cultural narratives for each case study to demonstrate what they reveal about software and digital culture. These analyses of software provide a widely applicable method through which moving image studies can contribute more fully to the wider and growing debates about algorithmic culture.

Book Synopsis What School Could Be by : Ted Dintersmith
Download or read book What School Could Be written by Ted Dintersmith and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-04-10 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An inspiring account of teachers in ordinary circumstances doing extraordinary things, showing us how to transform education What School Could Be offers an inspiring vision of what our teachers and students can accomplish if trusted with the challenge of developing the skills and ways of thinking needed to thrive in a world of dizzying technological change. Innovation expert Ted Dintersmith took an unprecedented trip across America, visiting all fifty states in a single school year. He originally set out to raise awareness about the urgent need to reimagine education to prepare students for a world marked by innovation--but America's teachers one-upped him. All across the country, he met teachers in ordinary settings doing extraordinary things, creating innovative classrooms where children learn deeply and joyously as they gain purpose, agency, essential skillsets and mindsets, and real knowledge. Together, these new ways of teaching and learning offer a vision of what school could be—and a model for transforming schools throughout the United States and beyond. Better yet, teachers and parents don't have to wait for the revolution to come from above. They can readily implement small changes that can make a big difference. America's clock is ticking. Our archaic model of education trains our kids for a world that no longer exists, and accelerating advances in technology are eliminating millions of jobs. But the trailblazing of many American educators gives us reasons for hope. Capturing bold ideas from teachers and classrooms across America, What School Could Be provides a realistic and profoundly optimistic roadmap for creating cultures of innovation and real learning in all our schools.
