Memory retention has been documented as one of the biggest areas of deficiency among these students (Mastropieri & Scruggs, 1991). Students with learning disabilities can be taught effective learning strategies that will help them approach tasks more effectively. Mnemonics is a memory enhancing instructional strategy that involves teaching students to link new information that is taught to information they already know. This study will explore the effectiveness of using mnemonic devices with special needs children in different subject area along with direct instruction vs. mnemonic instruction (Uberti, Scruggs & Mastropieri, 2003). It has been proven through research; that various mnemonic strategies prove their effectiveness in the classroom as well as strengthening the thinking skill of learning disabled (LD) students. It was concluded that mnemonic instruction facilitates effective learning in most subject areas through memory retention. This study suggests that LD students can benefit from mnemonic instruction. Mnemonic instruction can increase LD students' interest in core curriculum subjects. Further research was recommended & implication for future teaching were suggested.
