Download or read book Access Networks written by Xiao Jun Hei and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-02-09 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rapid growth of the Internet as well as the increasing demand for broadband services, access networks have been receiving growing investments in recent years. This has led to a massive network deployment with the goal of eliminating the ba- width bottleneck between end-users and the network core. Today many diverse te- nologies are being used to provide broadband access to end users. The architecture and performance of the access segment (local loop, wired and wireless access n- works, and even home networks) are getting increasing attention for ensuring quality of service of diverse broadband applications. Moreover, most access lines will no longer terminate on a single device, thus leading to the necessity of having a home network designed for applications that transcend simple Internet access sharing among multiple personal computers and enable multimedia support. Therefore, the access network and its home portion have become a hot investment pool from both a fin- cial as well as a research perspective. The aim of the annual International Conference on Access Networks (AccessNets) is to provide a forum that brings together scientists and researchers from academia as well as managers and engineers from the industry and government organizations to meet and exchange ideas and recent work on all aspects of access networks and how they integrate with their in-home counterparts. After Athens in 2006, Ottawa in 2007, and Las Vegas in 2008, this year AccessNets moved to Asia for the first time.

Book excerpt: This book presents a printed testimony for the fact that George Andrews, one of the world’s leading experts in partitions and q-series for the last several decades, has passed the milestone age of 80. To honor George Andrews on this occasion, the conference “Combinatory Analysis 2018” was organized at the Pennsylvania State University from June 21 to 24, 2018. This volume comprises the original articles from the Special Issue “Combinatory Analysis 2018 – In Honor of George Andrews’ 80th Birthday” resulting from the conference and published in Annals of Combinatorics. In addition to the 37 articles of the Andrews 80 Special Issue, the book includes two new papers. These research contributions explore new grounds and present new achievements, research trends, and problems in the area. The volume is complemented by three special personal contributions: “The Worlds of George Andrews, a daughter’s take” by Amy Alznauer, “My association and collaboration with George Andrews” by Krishna Alladi, and “Ramanujan, his Lost Notebook, its importance” by Bruce Berndt. Another aspect which gives this Andrews volume a truly unique character is the “Photos” collection. In addition to pictures taken at “Combinatory Analysis 2018”, the editors selected a variety of photos, many of them not available elsewhere: “Andrews in Austria”, “Andrews in China”, “Andrews in Florida”, “Andrews in Illinois”, and “Andrews in India”. Book Synopsis A New Dimension to Quantum Chemistry by : Yukio Yamaguchi
Download or read book A New Dimension to Quantum Chemistry written by Yukio Yamaguchi and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1994 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In modern theoretical chemistry, the importance of the analytic evaluation of energy derivatives from reliable wave functions can hardly be overestimated. This monograph presents the formulation and implementation of analytical energy derivative methods in ab initio quantum chemistry. It includes a systematic presentation of the necessary algebraic formulae for all of the derivations. The coverage is limited to derivative methods for wave functions based on the variational principle, namely restricted Hartree-Fock (RHF), configuration interaction (CI) and multi-configuration self-consistent-field (MCSCF) wave functions. The monograph is intended to facilitate the work of quantum chemists, and will serve as a useful resource for graduate-level students of the field.

Book Synopsis Mean Field Simulation for Monte Carlo Integration by : Pierre Del Moral
Download or read book Mean Field Simulation for Monte Carlo Integration written by Pierre Del Moral and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-05-20 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last three decades, there has been a dramatic increase in the use of interacting particle methods as a powerful tool in real-world applications of Monte Carlo simulation in computational physics, population biology, computer sciences, and statistical machine learning. Ideally suited to parallel and distributed computation, these advanced particle algorithms include nonlinear interacting jump diffusions; quantum, diffusion, and resampled Monte Carlo methods; Feynman-Kac particle models; genetic and evolutionary algorithms; sequential Monte Carlo methods; adaptive and interacting Markov chain Monte Carlo models; bootstrapping methods; ensemble Kalman filters; and interacting particle filters. Mean Field Simulation for Monte Carlo Integration presents the first comprehensive and modern mathematical treatment of mean field particle simulation models and interdisciplinary research topics, including interacting jumps and McKean-Vlasov processes, sequential Monte Carlo methodologies, genetic particle algorithms, genealogical tree-based algorithms, and quantum and diffusion Monte Carlo methods. Along with covering refined convergence analysis on nonlinear Markov chain models, the author discusses applications related to parameter estimation in hidden Markov chain models, stochastic optimization, nonlinear filtering and multiple target tracking, stochastic optimization, calibration and uncertainty propagations in numerical codes, rare event simulation, financial mathematics, and free energy and quasi-invariant measures arising in computational physics and population biology. This book shows how mean field particle simulation has revolutionized the field of Monte Carlo integration and stochastic algorithms. It will help theoretical probability researchers, applied statisticians, biologists, statistical physicists, and computer scientists work better across their own disciplinary boundaries.

Book Synopsis Modern Computational Approaches to Traditional Chinese Medicine by : Zhaohui Wu
Download or read book Modern Computational Approaches to Traditional Chinese Medicine written by Zhaohui Wu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-07-16 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recognized as an essential component of Chinese culture, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is both an ancient medical system and one still used widely in China today. TCM's independently evolved knowledge system is expressed mainly in the Chinese language and the information is frequently only available through ancient classics and confidential family records, making it difficult to utilize. The major concern in TCM is how to consolidate and integrate the data, enabling efficient retrieval and discovery of novel knowledge from the dispersed data. Computational approaches such as data mining, semantic reasoning and computational intelligence have emerged as innovative approaches for the reservation and utilization of this knowledge system. Typically, this requires an inter-disciplinary approach involving Chinese culture, computer science, modern healthcare and life sciences. This book examines the computerization of TCM information and knowledge to provide intelligent resources and supporting evidences for clinical decision-making, drug discovery, and education. Recent research results from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Informatics Group of Zhejiang University are presented, gathering in one resource systematic approaches for massive data processing in TCM. These include the utilization of modern Semantic Web and data mining methods for more advanced data integration, data analysis and integrative knowledge discovery. This book will appeal to medical professionals, life sciences students, computer scientists, and those interested in integrative, complementary, and alternative medicine. Interdisciplinary book bringing together Traditional Chinese Medicine and computer scientists Introduces novel network technologies to Traditional Chinese Medicine informatics Provides theory and practical examples and case studies of new techniques
Book Synopsis Tribal Names of the Americas by : Patricia Roberts Clark
Download or read book Tribal Names of the Americas written by Patricia Roberts Clark and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2009-10-21 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars have long worked to identify the names of tribes and other groupings in the Americas, a task made difficult by the sheer number of indigenous groups and the many names that have been passed down only through oral tradition. This book is a compendium of tribal names in all their variants--from North, Central and South America--collected from printed sources. Because most of these original sources reproduced words that had been encountered only orally, there is a great deal of variation. Organized alphabetically, this book collates these variations, traces them to the spellings and forms that have become standardized, and supplies see and see also references. Each main entry includes tribal name, the "parent group" or ancestral tribe, original source for the tribal name, and approximate location of the name in the original source material.
