Das Führen von Personen wird in kaum einer Ausbildung gelehrt, meist werden nur Sachkenntnisse vermittelt. Die meisten Gruppenleiter und Abteilungsleiter sind befördert worden oder in diese Position gewechselt. Somit verfügen viele Führungskräfte über gute Fach- aber weniger gute Führungskenntnis. Der Führungsstil, das heißt die Art im Umgang mit Mitarbeitern, spielt in diesem Zusammenhang eine große Rolle. In der Fachliteratur gibt es eine Vielzahl von Führungsstilen, die sich theoretisch klar voneinander abgrenzen. Doch wie sieht es in der Realität aus? Gibt es den perfekten Führungsstil? Führt eine Führungskraft nach einem Stil oder sind Merkmale verschiedener Stile zu erkennen? Ist der Führungsstil ausschlaggebend für die Leistung der Mitarbeiter? Auf alle diese Fragen versucht die vorliegende Arbeit Antwort zu geben. Grundsätzlich sind zwei Arten der Führung zu unterscheiden, die Unternehmensführung, die das Aufgabenziel und die Aufgabenverteilung in den Vordergrund stellt und die Personalführung, die sich vor allem mit der Verhaltensbeeinflussung der Mitarbeiter beschäftigt. Die Personalführung ist grundlegend für diese Arbeit. Der erste Teil der Arbeit befasst sich mit verschiedenen theoretischen Ansätzen um einen Überblick über die Vielfalt dieses Themas zu geben.
