Book excerpt: The Adventures of a Dominant Madam… and Her Men. “Most of my clients just want a young stud, but a select few are looking for a man who will submit…you’ve begun to doubt that there really are sexually dominant women… Well, I can assure you that such women do exist. They tend to be older, self-centered bitches. Many want revenge for the way their husbands and lovers have treated them…others simply want sex for their own enjoyment. They’ve been with men who had no regard for what they wanted in bed and now they want to use men the way they feel they’ve been used…” A dominant madam and the men she supplies to satisfy the lusts of wealthy women with a desire for control and vengeance over the opposite sex is the subject of this tale of female authority and the men who succumb to it. Sometimes permanently!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's Country; Natchitoches Louisiana, focuses on French Creole cuisine and is of the many Parishes that cultivates this lavish cuisine. Natchitoches is a very small town in Louisiana; it's so small my mother used to say, "you could throw a rock from one end of town to the other". Natchitoches was founded in 1741, by Juchereau de St. Denis, which means, Chinquapin eaters, derived from an Indian Tribe. One of the effects of this unique history of the French soldiers is the banks of Cane River which lie through the beautiful brick streets. Enslaved people of Cane River region were also affected by cultural changes following the Louisiana Parish under French and Spanish rule most slaves originated from the Scnegambian region of Africa. A few plantations still with functioning families is the Magnolia Plantation. Besides the exquisite history of this amazing town , food play a big part in the structure of little town called "Natchitoches". Meat Pies, everything made with pecans, Crawfi sh Pie, File Gumbo and everything made from a fresh slottered hog (which I never had the opportunity to experience with my grandfather, J.C. Moody). I didn't grow up in Louisiana, but I sure didn't miss out on the blessings of cooking the many recipes giving to me from Cane River, my mother, grandmother and uncle Lonzia.

I missed out on slaughtering hogs with my Grandfather in the parish, but my mother Dee Moody, grandmother Girlene Sapp and uncle Lonzia Moody, taught more than basic cooking. The portentous part was learning to scale fish at the tender age of fourteen while listening to majestic stories of Cane River. During their early passing, I put together a few recipes passed down from them and a few I have learned on my own through the years. I hope you relish in the recipes as much as I do. Put a little love in your flow, cook slow and clean as you go. In Loving Memory Girlene Sapp Dee Moody Lonzia Moody

Book excerpt: What brought Monica Storrs to embark on a wilderness life in the depressed thirties amidst the hardships of B.C.'s Peace River country - the last North American frontier? Monica Storrs was to stay in the north for twenty years. She came to a wilderness almost roadless, townless, and schoolless, without amenities or culture; a land of hot, dusty summers and unpredictable, sub-Arctic winters; a land of untamed and unexpected grandeur. Hearing the "clear call" of duty, she was endowed with a strong desire to serve the Anglican cause. A refined woman of 41, the delicately reared daughter of the dean of Rochester Cathedral, she was following a family tradition in seeking missionary work in rough and alien surroundings. Her mission was the settlers and the frontier. She came to teach Sunday school and the traditions of guiding and scouting to tough, work-hardened country children. She rode horseback to bring the gospel to the families of isolated farmers and trappers. She welcomed the poor and hungry to her home -- both the God-fearing and the godless. And she was, for the most part, welcome in theirs. She and the women who became her helpers were known affectionately by the people of the Peace as "God's Galloping Girls." Overcoming early fears of failure and rejection, she learned to subdue the prejudices of her moral and social upbringing and at last won acceptance and a permanent place in the heart of the north. Monica Storrs' diaries are a moving narrative of a woman's indomitable courage, faith, and humour. Her story is a vivid, realistic description of frontier life and the struggle for survival. Her words convey the wild and primitive beauty of the Peace River country -- not just a region, but an adventure of the spirit.

Book excerpt: A cultural phenomenon for a decade, Friends ranked in the top ten for every year of its original run, an accomplishment unmatched by any other scripted series. And more than twenty-five years since its theme song promised “I’ll be there for you,” Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, and Ross are still entertaining audiences around the world. As the characters maneuvered their ways through dating, love, and the occasional conflict, their loyalty to each other remained steadfast. In Friends: A Cultural History, Jennifer C. Dunn explores why the show immediately took hold of viewers and how the series remained must-see TV for so long. Dunn examines the cultural landscape that allowed a show not centered on traditional sitcom norms of family and career to become such a critical and commercial success. The author also addresses how the show’s complicated depictions of gender roles and class distinctions—as well as its lack of ethnic diversity—did not detract from its popularity. In addition to exploring memorable plotlines, cherished moments, and the quirks of the principal players, this book analyzes the show’s enduring cultural relevance. Featuring a discussion of the show’s 25 best episodes, Friends: A Cultural History offers an engaging look at the series that has resonated with generations of television viewers.
