Book excerpt: Marla Drake, the untamable costumed adventurer known as Miss Fury, fought Nazis with wild abandon not just during World War II, but - due to a scientific mishap - throughout time, as well. Now trapped in the 1943 of a parallel universe, she comes face-to-face with her mirror double, a hedonistic murderess whose soul was never saved by the love of a good man. Realizing what her life could be like now that she has lost her own beloved Matthew Chandler, she surrenders to the slimy promises of Schauburger, a rogue (and dead) Nazi agent whose ghost can alter the timestream and set things right. The cost? Killing the alternate Marla Drake, the Pharaoh of Time, the Mafia superhero The Mob, a US Naval Intelligence nuclear physicist... and the list goes on. No matter how hard she tries, people just seem to want Miss Fury to murder for them. How many must die so that she can become a good person again? * "Miss Fury is freaking awesome!" - Following The Nerd * "I found myself absolutely enjoying this release every step of the way. Highly recommended." - Unleash The Fanboy * "Firing on all cylinders." - Comic Book Therapy

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Origin Marla Drake was a wealthy socialite who discovered that another girl was wearing the same outfit to a party. Her housemaid, Francine, suggested that (to prevent embarrassment) Marla could wear an African panther skin that her uncle had willed to her. Her friend, Albino Jo, advised against wearing the ceremonial outfit, meant to be worn only by a witch doctor however, it fit her precisely. However, Marla never made it to the party. On the way, she instead ends up helping to recapture an escaped murderer. The press bestowed the name "Black Fury" on her though she later corrected them that she was "Miss Fury." Having enjoyed her first case, Drake continued as a costumed crime fighter. Fighting enemies such as General Bruno Beitz, Baroness Erica von Kampf, Miguel Rico, Dr. Diman Saraf, and Whiffy. Miss Fury's vigilantism soon got the attention of Detective Carey who sought to find her true identity and if her alliances were with or against the law and later fell in love with Marla. One ongoing plotline was Marla's adoption of Darron, the abandoned son of Erica Von Kampf and Gary Hale (Marla's former fiance). Marla was unaware of the toddler's parentage but, she rescued him in Brazil from the brutal guardianship of Diman Saraf, who planned to use him in a deadly experiment. She was initially denied custody of the boy because she was a single woman, which broke her heart but, her courage and heroism in the rescue eventually won over the authorities. Marla was then, for the duration of the series, an unmarried woman with a child: a rather progressive scenario for a 1940s adventure strip (and because she had a job with a clothing designer, she enlisted the help of her friend Francine, who offered to be Darron's governess after losing her job in a war plant because of returning servicemen - a significant issue facing working women after the war). Powers and Abilities The original Miss Fury has no super-powers but was very agile. The Black Leopard skin costume from Brazil. According to Albino Joe, a Brazilian albino friend of Marla Drake's, the Black Leopard Skin could produce miracles, but it would also bring misfortune to anyone who wore it.The skin did have claws attached over the knuckles and possible a weighted "tail" for smacking guns out of people's hands. The next Miss Fury fell into a vat of chemicals that have given her super strength, but left her vulnerable to enter in a state of rage. The newest Miss Fury was given a potion while on an expedition trip to Kenya her dad sent her to on her twenty-first birthday after dealing with the problematic and killer of a tour guide. Combined with a magic ritual the natives performed, she was endowed with superhuman powers. She has shown superhuman strength to the degree that she can kick a table through reinforced glass and dent armor that it took a sniper rifle to punch through. She is granted superhuman reflexes shown when she ducks under a semi truck that is near inches from her face. She is also granted heightened agility shown when leaping around street lights and off of buildings to get up to places. She must also have heightened durability as well when she shows the ability to take hits from cybernetically armored Nazis. Miss Fury shows she is an adept hand-to-hand combatant. She also demonstrates proficient use in firearms and uncanny accuracy, as she was able to shoot a pilot in an oncoming fighter jet while he was shooting at her. Book excerpt: The saga of MISS FURY began with a fashion choice. When Marla Drake learned that someone else was attending a party in the same outfit as she, instead she put on an African panther suit which had belonged to her uncle. She never made it to the part, instead helping to capture a dangerous criminal, and thus embarked on a career of costumed crimefighting! MISS FURY was born in the newspaper strips and was drawn by June Tarpe Mills - the first woman illustrator to draw and woman costumed hero. Her stories were more complex and realistic, intertwining personal lives of the heroine long before the "relevant" comics of the 1960s and 1970s. The collection presents some of her best stories form the comic pages! This book contains her appearance in The Saint #6, and stories from Miss Fury #2-4. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gideon’s People is the story of an American Indian community in the Housatonic Valley of northwestern Connecticut. It is based on some three decades of nearly uninterrupted German-language diaries and allied records kept by the Moravian missionaries who had joined the Indians at a place called Pachgatgoch, later Schaghticoke. It is supplemented by colonial records and regional political, social, and religious histories and ethnographies. As such, it represents the only comprehensive, thoroughly contextualized description of a Native people in southern New England and adjacent eastern New York for the mid-eighteenth century. The Moravians’ diaries report on the day-to-day activities in the community, including house-building, the production of material goods, hunting, fishing, and farming. We are told of marriages, births, deaths, disease, and the calamity of alcohol abuse. The unavoidable interactions with surrounding Indians and close-by colonial farmers and townspeople are offered in detail, along with the sometimes contentious relations with local and colonial authorities. And there is the omnipresence of the missionaries’ religious message to the Indians, frequently accepted and then tested by the inevitable temptations and, more than once, spurned. But we also learn of the struggles of the Moravians to feed and clothe themselves at a distance from their congregation in Bethlehem and their endeavors, often marked by conflict and deep personal pain, to lead their Native flock to the Lamb.
