Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annabel Beam is one of three sisters raised in the Texas countryside by loving parents. But what should have been a happy, carefree childhood was blighted when Annabel developed a painful and seemingly incurable digestive disorder. Her parents spared no expense in the search for a cure, but medical experts assured them there was none. On a rare day when Annabel felt well enough to play outside, she was climbing an old hollowed-out tree when a branch snapped and she fell, head first, thirty feet down inside the tree. Miraculously, she survived the fall but was knocked unconscious. Rescued and later released from hospital, Annabel told her mother, 'you know I went to heaven when I was in that tree'. Annabel shared with her mother her amazing experience of talking to God, who told her that it wasn't her time and that she must go back. What happened next was the greatest miracle of all. Annabel was inexplicably cured of her illness and her doctors could offer no explanation. Written by Annabel's mother Christy, Miracles from Heaven is the story of a little girl's - and a family's - inspiring journey. Deeply moving and heartwarming, the book recounts the fateful day of the accident, Annabel's description of her time in heaven and her miraculous recovery. This is the story of how one family never gave up hope.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Another history pageturner from the authors of the #1 bestsellers George Washington's Secret Six and Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates. The War of 1812 saw America threatened on every side. Encouraged by the British, Indian tribes attacked settlers in the West, while the Royal Navy terrorized the coasts. By mid-1814, President James Madison’s generals had lost control of the war in the North, losing battles in Canada. Then British troops set the White House ablaze, and a feeling of hopelessness spread across the country. Into this dire situation stepped Major General Andrew Jackson. A native of Tennessee who had witnessed the horrors of the Revolutionary War and Indian attacks, he was glad America had finally decided to confront repeated British aggression. But he feared that President Madison’s men were overlooking the most important target of all: New Orleans. If the British conquered New Orleans, they would control the mouth of the Mississippi River, cutting Americans off from that essential trade route and threatening the previous decade’s Louisiana Purchase. The new nation’s dreams of western expansion would be crushed before they really got off the ground. So Jackson had to convince President Madison and his War Department to take him seriously, even though he wasn’t one of the Virginians and New Englanders who dominated the government. He had to assemble a coalition of frontier militiamen, French-speaking Louisianans,Cherokee and Choctaw Indians, freed slaves, and even some pirates. And he had to defeat the most powerful military force in the world—in the confusing terrain of the Louisiana bayous. In short, Jackson needed a miracle. The local Ursuline nuns set to work praying for his outnumbered troops. And so the Americans, driven by patriotism and protected by prayer, began the battle that would shape our young nation’s destiny. As they did in their two previous bestsellers, Kilmeade and Yaeger make history come alive with a riveting true story that will keep you turning the pages. You’ll finish with a new understanding of one of our greatest generals and a renewed appreciation for the brave men who fought so that America could one day stretch “from sea to shining sea.”

Book excerpt: Life is not what it seems. We should be open to all possibilities of what life could be about and what life has to offer. Edward, the main character goes through life's journey. This person is a decent, educated, family oriented, and self-driven individual. He is hard working and plays by the rules, yet life still fails him. Something else out there is affecting him and telling him to wake up to something different, something more beautiful. Life itself opens up to him because he dares to open up to the possibilities. This story blends realism, mysticism, spirituality, psychology, and science together in an intriguing and inspirational plot. Although the book is in a fictional category, it has an element of a self help/non fiction genre as well. ... Dare to be reflective about the true nature of our reality. ... Dare to realize that perhaps there is more to us than first meets the eye. ... Dare to be spiritual. ... Dare to realize that our common experience is deceptive, and allow yourself to open up to other possibilities. ... Dare to have the courage and wisdom to say on your death bed, "I have lived a full life," and not say, "What if my life has been all wrong?"

Book excerpt: Unfortunate Destiny focuses on the roles played by nonhuman animals within the imaginative thought-world of Indian Buddhism, as reflected in pre-modern South Asian Buddhist literature. These roles are multifaceted, diverse, and often contradictory: In Buddhist doctrine and cosmology, the animal rebirth is a most "unfortunate destiny" (durgati), won through negative karma and characterized by a lack of intelligence, moral agency, and spiritual potential. In stories about the Buddha's previous lives, on the other hand, we find highly anthropomorphized animals who are wise, virtuous, endowed with human speech, and often critical of the moral shortcomings of humankind. In the life-story of the Buddha, certain animal characters serve as "doubles" of the Buddha, illuminating his nature through identification, contrast or parallelism with an animal "other." Relations between human beings and animals likewise range all the way from support, friendship, and near-equality to rampant exploitation, cruelty, and abuse. Perhaps the only commonality among these various strands of thought is a persistent impulse to use animals to clarify the nature of humanity itself--whether through similarity, contrast, or counterpoint. Buddhism is a profoundly human-centered religious tradition, yet it relies upon a dexterous use of the animal other to help clarify the human self. This book seeks to make sense of this process through a wide-ranging-exploration of animal imagery, animal discourse, and specific animal characters in South Asian Buddhist texts.

Book excerpt: Rabbi Soloveitchik presents an extended theological meditation on the Holocaust and the rise of the State of Israel, a profound examination of the Jewish covenant of faith and the covenant of fate and destiny which links all Jews, religious, irreligious and non-religious. This covenant of faith manifests itself in shared circumstances, shared responsibility and shared activity. Fate and destiny likewise links all Jews, but while fate is thrust upon the Jews, destiny is freely chosen by the individual Jew and the Jewish people by adopting a Torah lifestyle and possesses both significance and purpose.

Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to the main protagonist of the story. You asked me to write a book about our relationship, which I didn’t want but ended up doing based on your persistence and insistence on it. However, you probably didn’t realize that you were asking me to write as well a reality-based story, not a fairytale or a fiction novel. And well, here it is, what you truly asked for. I wrote the whole truth, from when I fell in love with you until what happened later between us. As a matter of fact, to be as honest and precise as anyone can get, I decided to add many of our conversations, and actually chose at some point to talk to you online many times on purpose, to copy-paste exactly what we said to one another. So here it is, the real you and the real me, for all the eternity of mankind to know. And also because I have nothing to hide about myself. There are over 300 books describing my personal life and my personality, including self-biographies. You are the one that always assumed that the truth and what you think about yourself is the same thing. Well, it is not. Love is not blind. Or maybe it is and there was no love between us. I will surely not put much more of my thoughts about it anymore into analyzing exactly the causes behind our relationship. I’ve analyzed everything as any researcher would, confirmed my results with parallel analysis on the fields of Psychology, Psychiatry and Scientology, and made my judgments as accurate as possible. Because I do love you, I loved you, and I will always love you, but I love myself too. And above everything, I love the truth, and I love a real and true story. So, thank you for that, for giving me a whole story about the truth regarding being in love with someone like you, for suggesting and insisting on this book, which will hopefully enlighten many to seek happiness beyond the turbulences of insanity and disrespect that I’ve felt and found myself doing again unto another being. I hoped and still do, that one day you can read this whole book and realize how our relationship can or could be wonderful. It is, at this point, still in your hands. The facts about our past, however, remain in memory and now in words too.

Book excerpt: It all starts with ten-year-old Arthur Clive Pinner, a Home Boy shipped to Canada in 1909, who runs away from the brutal couple with whom he has been placed. Art ends up in a wintry Muskoka forest, desperate for any kind of refuge. He meets a girl from the future who comforts and reassures him for a few precious moments -- and then sends him on his way so that he can find the family that takes him in a raises him as their own. Flash forward ninety years to the town of Sky Falls where Art has grown up, married, and grown old. Now confined to his wheelchair, Art is only vaguely aware of the intrigues and stresses of the twenty-first century, and he occasionally mutters about finding the landing card he had inadvertently given to his girl from the future decades before. The dramas swirling around him make up the bulk of this collection of thirteen stories about coming of age in a small northern town.
