Book Synopsis Studies of Rare-metal Deposits in the Northwest Territories by : Geological Survey of Canada
Download or read book Studies of Rare-metal Deposits in the Northwest Territories written by Geological Survey of Canada and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains four papers that report on a wide range of geoscientific activities related to various rare-metal deposits in the Northwest Territories. Two papers represent the results of work carried out on the Blatchford Lake intrusive suite and the associated Thor Lake rare-metal deposits of niobium, tantalum, beryllium, yttrium, rare-earth elements, and gallium. A detailed gravity survey and computer modelling provides an understanding of the three dimensional geometry of the 23 km wide Blatchford Lake. Another paper summarizes some of the extensive pegmatite research done by the University of Manitoba in the Northwest Territories during the 1980s, providing information on the geological setting, geochemistry, and economic potential of four previously undocumented or poorly known rare-element pegmatite occurrences at Ayler Lake, Torp Lake, Chantry Inlet, and the Foxe fields in the Rae Province. Another paper presents a thorough documentation of the geological settings, characteristics, and metallogeny of selected mineral occurrences in the southern part of the Proterozoic Great Bear magnetic zone.

Book Synopsis Arctic Mineral Resources by : Sergey V. Krivovichev
Download or read book Arctic Mineral Resources written by Sergey V. Krivovichev and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arctic zone of the Earth is a major source of mineral and other natural resources for the future development of science and technology. It contains a large supply of strategic mineral deposits, including rare earths, copper, phosphorus, niobium, platinum-group elements, and other critical metals. The continued melting of the sea ice due to climate change makes these resources more accessible than ever before. However, the mineral exploration in the Arctic has always been a challenge due to the climatic restrictions, remote location, and vulnerability of Arctic ecosystems. This book covers a broad range of topics related to the problem of Arctic mineral resources, including geological, geochemical, and mineralogical aspects of their occurrence and formation; chemical technologies; and environmental and economic problems related to mineral exploration. The contributions can be tentatively classified into four major types: geodynamics and metallogeny, mineralogy and petrology, mineralogy and crystallography, and mining and chemical technologies associated with the exploration of mineral deposits and the use of raw materials for manufacturing new products. The book can be of interest for all those interested in Arctic issues and especially in Arctic mineral resources and associated problems of mineralogy, geology, geochemistry, and technology.
Download or read book Beryllium written by Edward S. Grew and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-12-17 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 50 of Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry treats Beryllium and its cosmogenic isotopes. This volume includes an overview of Be studies in the earth sciences and a systematic classification of Be minerals based on their crystal structure. It treats the analysis of these minerals by the secondary ion mass spectroscopy as well as experimental studies of systems involving Be. Moreover, this volume reviews the behavior of Be in the Solar System, with an emphasis on meteorites, the Moon and Mars, and the implications of this behavior for the evolution of the solar system. It gives an overview of the terrestrial geochemistry of Be and discusses the contamination of the environment by this anthropogenic toxin. It reports use of the longer lived Be-10 to assess erosion rates and other surficial processes and how this isotope can yield independent temporal records of geomagnetic field variations for comparison with records obtained by measuring natural remnant magnetization, be a chemical tracer for processes in convergent margins, and can date events in Cenozoic tectonics. It reviews applications of the shorter lived isotope Be-7 in environmental studies as well. Residual phases include acidic plutonic and volcanic rocks, whose geochemistry and evolution are covered, while granitic pegmatites, which are well-known for their remarkable, if localized, Be enrichments and a wide variety of Be mineral assemblages, are reviewed. Not all Be concentrations have obvious magmatic affinities; for example, one class of emerald deposits results from Be being introduced by heated brines. Pelitic rocks are an important reservoir of Be in the Earth's crust and their metamorphism plays a critical role in recycling of Be in subduction zones, eventually, anatectic processes complete the cycle, providing a source of Be for granitic rocks.
