Book excerpt: To Merlin Mills, his family ceased to exist when his father turned his back on him, and he had to make some drastic changes in order to survive. Now, nine years later, his family is back, and their existence threatens his once stable relationship with his new wife. If Merlin wants to hold on to her, he must face the demons he's conveniently forgotten and put them in their proper perspective. Can he undo the damage caused by his omission, or will he snap under the pressure? Gavin Mills always despised his twin brother, but now the fact that they are mirror images might work to his advantage. When Gavin gets a taste of Merlin's wife, he decides he has to have her, no matter the consequences. Gina Meadows took in the children of her common law husband, Ronald, mainly because she feels guilty that she is unable to conceive. Imagine her surprise when she discovers she's pregnant. It could be just the thing she and Ronald need to rekindle their relationship . . . or it could spell disaster. With so many demons still plaguing them, this family reunion will be anything but easy.

Book Synopsis The Text and the World by : Piotr Górecki
Download or read book The Text and the World written by Piotr Górecki and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2015-07-02 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Text and the World is a study of an exceptionally interesting primary source - the Henryków Book - and of the local and regional world which that source reflected and helped shape. The source is a history of the Cistercian monastery in Henryków, about forty kilometers to the south of Wroclaw, in the duchy of Silesia, produced in the monastery in two sections-one completed soon after 1268, the other soon after 1310-and redacted into a single codex in the second or third decade of the fourteenth century. The earlier part of the Book is the work of Peter, the third abbot of the monastery, while the continuation was written by an anonymous monk at the same community, possibly a later abbot by the same name. The Henryków Book offers an exceptionally rich introduction to a number of subjects currently of major interest to medieval historians. It is interesting as a literary work, as an instance of forensic rhetoric, and as a type of legal argument; as an instance of biography and (implicit) autobiography. It draws on and is an example of the relationship between memory and writing, and acts as a record of lordship, power, economy, the law, social groups, communities, and institutions, in the local and regional world of the time. The Text and the World explores each of these major subjects, contextualized with the Henryków Book's contemporary diplomatic evidence.
Book Synopsis The Cambridge History of Medieval Monasticism in the Latin West by : Alison I. Beach
Download or read book The Cambridge History of Medieval Monasticism in the Latin West written by Alison I. Beach and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monasticism, in all of its variations, was a feature of almost every landscape in the medieval West. So ubiquitous were religious women and men throughout the Middle Ages that all medievalists encounter monasticism in their intellectual worlds. While there is enormous interest in medieval monasticism among Anglophone scholars, language is often a barrier to accessing some of the most important and groundbreaking research emerging from Europe. The Cambridge History of Medieval Monasticism in the Latin West offers a comprehensive treatment of medieval monasticism, from Late Antiquity to the end of the Middle Ages. The essays, specially commissioned for this volume and written by an international team of scholars, with contributors from Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States, cover a range of topics and themes and represent the most up-to-date discoveries on this topic.

Book excerpt: The night Army Specialist Merlin Mills's identical twin brother, Gavin, slept with his wife, everything changed. Now Merlin must come to grips with the fact that Cojo may be carrying his brother's child. For Gina Meadows, Merlin's mother, it's a brutal reminder of the dysfunction that has always plagued her family. Tension escalates when Gina pops up pregnant after a night of drunken revelry, and an icy finger points to her deviant son as the father. The drama that ensues forces them all to take stock of their lives. Hurt, angry, and confused, Merlin is caught up in a complex struggle between yesterday and today; between a mistress who wants to give him real love and a wife who doesn't know how; between nasty lies and secrets and their life-altering revelations. In his struggle to mend a marriage that is as fragile as a cobweb, Merlin learns that the past, present, and future are tangled in a knot that he can never unravel. "Absorbing. Pupil-dilating. Utterly consuming. Better check your pulse after this one. Tina Brooks Mckinney serves up a multilayered family scandal that is sure to take your breath away." ---Oasis & Mrs. Oasis, authors of White Heat
