This book was released on 2017-09-13 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Milk Diet as a Remedy, for Chronic Disease, published in 1911, is one of those publications that supported the "milk diet" movement that was quite popular in the early 1900s. This edition offers intriguing declarations about milk as a cure for problems related to blood production and circulation, as well as chronic diseases. Written by a legitimate physician, Charles Sanford Porter, M.D., this edition contains certain revelations that may fly in the face of modern medicine. Some of the statements made here may be contradictory to recent findings about human consumption of milk, thus the need to take everything with prudent judgment. Given that this volume was released more than a hundred years ago, it's understandable that there are information included which have yet to be verified and concluded in further studies and with more advanced technology. However, the author cites examples and cases of people who attribute their recovery from certain diseases to the practice of drinking milk exclusively. Aside from taking in generous quantities of milk, the Dr. Porter also prescribes rest and exercise. In the last parts of this edition, he provides a number of exercise routines that the reader can easily carry out. To this day, the milk diet prescribed in this book still has advocates and fans. This volume is definitely appropriate supplementary reading for dairy product lovers and those who are interested in the dietary fads of the past, but should not be used as a guide without the advice of a modern medical professional. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Observations Upon the Natural History of Epidemic Diarrhoea The causative agencies from which springs the plentiful harvest of child mortality in large cities may be conceived as a felted mass of rootlets almost inextricably intertwined. Those of poverty, bad housing, bad feeding, and neglect, may be severally recognized, but the extent of their interrelations with actual respiratory and alimentary disease - those to which the greater part of the mortality is referred - can be traced only with difficulty. It is the object Of this work to aid ln the labour of cutting away the matrix and entangling fibres and to lay bare the hidden ramifications of at least one important causative agency - epidemic diarrhoea. This affection - if we accept provisionally the more novel and generally favoured conception. As to its nature - is revealed as something very like an ordinary infectious disease, and one which permeates all classes, while the excessive mortality it gathers round itself in urban centres must be regarded as something superadded, owing to the vicious circle it forms with those baneful conditions of slum life mentioned above. On the other hand, its peculiarly intimate association with the circum stances of domestic life, from the continual faecal pollution of the interior of the household by infants and others, tends to make it more so than other affections of the kind peculiarly a class disease, and an especial scourge of dirty neighbourhoods. Dirty towns may however be saved from excessive mortality by a high percentage of breast feeding. A notable point in the interesting comparison that can be drawn between diarrhoea and typhoid fever is that, in accordance with their peculiarly opposite age-incidence curves, the marked and habitual depositing of infectious excreta within the household in the former disease may make the question of water-closet versus conservancy pan a matter of far less importance than in the latter. Book excerpt: Mineral levels in meat and milk plummet over 60 years and "We Want Real Food" explains why and how it can be reversed. We are all being encouraged to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables and many of us regularly spend more on organic produce in the belief that is better for our health and taste buds. However Graham Harvey illustrates how our increasingly industrial farming techniques are denuding our soil of the essential nutrients, minerals and structures needed to produce quality produce. Everyday fruits and vegetables have significantly lower nutrient contents from those grown 30 years ago, and are set to diminish further unless action is taken now. Harvey argues that many of the illnesses that plague modern society from obesity, tooth decay, arthritis and cancer to social disorder caused by increasing numbers with Attention Deficit Disorder have their roots in our diet that is low in the essential nutrients and minerals that our bodies have evolved to need. Far from the solution being too complex Harvey shows how the integration of small amounts of ground rock can re-mineralize the soil. This process mimics the action of the glaciers that provided us with the fertile soils we have been exploiting since the end of the last ice age. With the re-introduction of these essential minerals soil fertility is drastically improved producing bumper crops with a substantially improved flavour. This is an important book that is the next stage in the debate about the food we eat and how a simple solution can improve the nation's health and environment.
