Mais recente ainda é a presença de Mil novecentos e oitenta e quatro no fenômeno atual da polarização política e nas fake news, uma vez que o trabalho diário do protagonista Winston Smith é exatamente criar notícias falsas e distorcer a verdade em benefício da classe dominante, alterando a memória dos cidadão e mantendo a classe trabalhadora na ignorância e na amnésia geracional.
